Alpha.V2.0.0

CompletionLab Alpha 2.0 is Here!

Rarity V3, Adaptive Guides update, redesigned profiles, game and achievement pages, leaderboards, community features, and a pretty ridiculous amount of changes across the entire site.

CompletionLab 2.0 is finally here! What originally started as a fairly straightforward update turned into me deciding to rebuild almost everything. There were a lot of things I wasn’t completely happy with in the original Alpha, and the more I worked on them, the more I realized they needed something beyond a few small adjustments. Rarity V3 and Prestige Score One of the biggest changes is Rarity V3, which is a complete overhaul of how CompletionLab calculates achievement rarity and Prestige Score. The problem with using Xbox rarity by itself is that it doesn’t always tell the whole story. An achievement might have an incredibly low unlock percentage because it’s genuinely difficult or uncommon, or simply because most people who launched the game never bothered playing it. I wanted a system that could better distinguish between those situations without turning rarity into another difficulty rating. V3 takes a more careful approach to participation, achievement data, and how mature that data actually is. It also handles achievements with limited or missing evidence more conservatively instead of pretending the numbers are more reliable than they really are. Adaptive Guides and Guide Lab Guides have also received a pretty substantial overhaul. The idea behind Adaptive Guides is simple: if you’ve already unlocked half the achievements in a game, you probably don’t need to keep reading through everything you’ve already done. Guides can now adapt to your synced achievement progress, with Remaining and Full Guide modes depending on how you want to follow along. There are also improvements to personal guide progress, collectibles, navigation, and general readability. Guide Lab gives guides their own home, making it easier to browse what’s available and request guides for games that don’t have one yet. I’d eventually love for every game on CompletionLab to have a guide. We’re obviously not there yet, but this is a pretty big step toward that. Pretty Much Everything Else The game and achievement pages have been redesigned to make progression, rarity, base-game content, additional content, and available guides easier to understand. Profiles have received a similar treatment, with customizable sections, more statistics, and Dashboard Colors. There’s also the new Showcase system for sharing your accomplishments. The Dashboard, Library, Now Completing, Games browser, and My Achievements have all received major changes as well. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to make these pages feel like parts of the same website rather than a collection of separate features. On the community side, there are now expanded Leaderboards, Forums, Feedback, Site Updates, and Notifications. A lot of less exciting work happened behind the scenes too, particularly around game data, achievements, and the database itself. It’s not the kind of stuff you immediately notice when opening a page, but it matters quite a bit when you’re trying to build something that can grow. What’s Next? For now, I’m going to focus on fixing bugs, improving performance, and polishing what we’ve already built. There are still some things I want to improve, and plenty of ideas I haven’t gotten around to yet, but I’d rather make sure the existing experience works well before piling even more features on top of it. 2.0 took a lot longer than I originally expected, but I’m pretty happy with where things ended up. As always, if you run into something broken, confusing, or just plain annoying, let me know through Feedback. Thanks for checking out CompletionLab. :)
