Before You Start

Day of the Tentacle Remastered has 58 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore. Everything is offline and single-player, and one playthrough is enough.

Most of the list is quick joke interactions. Many of them are missable because the item they need gets used up, or because the game ends shortly after you buy the diamond. This route puts every one of them before its window closes.

  • Online/co-op: none.
  • Unobtainable/discontinued: none known as of October 2026.
  • Playthroughs: one. No chapter select or mission replay has been found, so a missed achievement means reloading an older save or starting a new game.
  • Difficulty settings: none.
  • Point of no return: the ending starts as soon as the last of three things is done: power Hoagie's Chron-O-John, power Laverne's Chron-O-John, and order the diamond. This route makes the diamond phone call that last step. Buying the diamond early and not being sent to yesterday may cost an achievement, so keep the diamond for last. Every achievement except the final story ones, the credits and OCD must be done before that phone call.
  • Whole-game requirements: never skip a cutscene (Mental Patience), and make sure Green Tentacle's stereo is on before the final step (Music Appreciation Award). The safest way is to turn it on early and leave it on.
  • Maniac Mansion: two achievements are earned inside the original Maniac Mansion, which you play on Weird Ed's computer. You don't have to finish it.

How This Route Works

You control three kids in three time periods.

  • Bernard is in the present-day Mansion.
  • Hoagie is 200 years in the past, in the colonial inn.
  • Laverne is 200 years in the future, in the tentacle-run Mansion.

You can switch between them at any time. Most items can be sent between kids. Once the first Chron-O-John trip is over, open the inventory, select an item and drop it on another kid's portrait to quick-flush it. Living things (the hamster) and some story items can't be sent.

The game has no named chapters, so this guide splits it into three stretches: building the super-battery, getting the diamond, and reaching yesterday. Puzzle steps are listed briefly so you never get stuck. Achievement actions sit exactly where you should do them.

Saving: the game autosaves. It also has 10 manual save slots, which you reach with the Open Menu button. You can't save during cutscenes. As a precaution, keep separate saves at these seven points:

  • before Hoagie hands the Help Wanted sign to Red Edison
  • before Laverne puts the name tag on Dead Cousin Ted
  • before the chattering teeth leave Laverne for Hoagie
  • before Hoagie takes the quill
  • before Laverne puts the hamster on the generator
  • before Dr. Fred signs the contract
  • immediately before the diamond phone call

Reloading one of these saves is a reasonable way to recover a missed gag. Mental Patience tracks the whole run, so if it genuinely fails, a fresh no-skip run is the safest recovery.

Mental Patience

Required: play the entire game without skipping a single cutscene.

The achievement unlocks during the ending sequence, around when the credits begin, as long as no cutscene was ever skipped.

  • On Xbox, holding B skips a cutscene. Never hold B during a cutscene, and that includes the end credits.
  • Tapping A to advance dialogue lines is confirmed safe.

If it hasn't appeared by the end of the credits, give it a few minutes, because Xbox can sync late. If it genuinely failed, a fresh no-skip run is the safest recovery.

Master Plumber

Required: flush 50 objects through time.

  • Use portrait quick-flushes. Dropping an item into the Chron-O-John by hand is reported not to count, so don't rely on it.
  • The same item sent back and forth counts every time, so you don't need 50 different items.
  • A few items can't be sent at all, including the coffee, the crowbar, the videotape, the hamster and the unsigned contract.

The easiest way is to do all 50 at once as soon as Hoagie is playable. Quick-flush one item between Bernard and Hoagie until the achievement unlocks, and make sure the item ends up with the kid who needs it. The battery plans work well for this. Do all 50 in one sitting without loading a save, because it isn't confirmed whether the count survives a reload. Every flush you make for the story also counts.

The Super-Battery

Bernard Alone: Lobby and Office

You start as Bernard in the present-day lobby after the opening cutscene. Let it play.

Most Annoying Guest Ever

Required: ring the front desk bell 100 times.

The bell is on the lobby's front desk. Use it 100 times in a row. The count is the only requirement.

Not Raised in a Barn

Required: close a door.

Any door counts. Go into Dr. Fred's office off the lobby and close the door behind you. While you're in the office:

  • Take the Swiss bankbook from the desk and the Booboo-B-Gone from the drawer.
  • Open the portrait to see the safe. You can't open it yet.

Back in the lobby:

  • Take the flier from the rack and the Help Wanted sign from the window.
  • Take the dime from the payphone.

Rap Sheet: Trespasser

Required: find Fred's basement workshop.

Open the grandfather clock in the lobby and go through it. The achievement unlocks when you reach the lab. Let the story play out, including Dr. Fred's explanation, then take the battery plans from the lab bulletin board.

Bernard holds the textbook. Don't send it to Hoagie yet: it's needed for a gag in Weird Ed's room first.

Hoagie and the Cherry Tree

Hoagie is now playable. He starts outside the colonial inn with a can opener already in his inventory.

Quick-flush Bernard's battery plans to Hoagie, who needs them for Red Edison. Then do Master Plumber's 50 quick-flushes now: send the plans back and forth between Bernard and Hoagie, and make sure they finish with Hoagie.

Also quick-flush Bernard's Help Wanted sign and flier to Hoagie now. Hoagie needs the sign for Red Edison and the flier for the suggestion box.

Dude, It's Like, Cannibalism

Required: Hoagie eats a hoagie.

Switch to Hoagie and leave him idle, without touching the controller. Eating a sandwich is one of his random idle animations, and the achievement unlocks when that animation plays. It's random. Sometimes it plays within 30 seconds, and sometimes it takes more than 30 minutes. If nothing happens after a few minutes, walk a step and leave him idle again.

Only Hoagie Can Make a Tree

Required: create a cherry tree.

Hoagie takes the red paint from the inn's attic and uses it on the kumquat tree by the outhouses. Laverne is stuck in that tree in the future.

Only George Can Destroy a Tree

Required: destroy a cherry tree.

Go to the inn's main hall, talk to George Washington and goad him about the "cherry" tree. He chops it down, which frees Laverne in the future.

Moronic Drone

Required: get a job.

Hoagie now has the battery plans and the Help Wanted sign from Bernard. He goes through the grandfather clock to Red Edison's workshop and gives Red the plans. Make a manual save, then select Use with the Help Wanted sign on Red Edison himself, never on Red's billboard. Red explains that the super-battery needs oil, vinegar and gold. Take the lab coat and the left-handed hammer.

Check that the achievement has unlocked before you continue. If it hasn't, reload the save you just made and use the sign on Red again. Handing the sign over with Give is historically reported to complete the scene without the achievement. That was patched on other platforms, but the Xbox patch status isn't confirmed, so stick to Use.

Laverne's Costume

Laverne starts in the future. The tentacles take her prisoner and put her in the human kennel.

Are You My Mummy?

Required: talk to Dead Cousin Ted with all three kids.

Dead Cousin Ted, the mummy, is in a different place in each period:

  • Past: behind the inn's reception desk.
  • Present: outside the Mansion, holding a bird bath.
  • Future: in the middle room upstairs ("R").

Talk to him with all three kids before the diamond call. The route schedules each conversation:

  • Hoagie: now, at the inn's reception desk, before he heads upstairs for his gathering run.
  • Bernard: during his Mansion sweep, when he steps outside.
  • Laverne: in the "R" room when she takes the roller skates.

Windsock it to Me

Required: change the flag.

  1. As Laverne, tell the kennel guard you feel sick.
  2. In the doctor's office, take the tentacle chart.
  3. Back in the kennel, say you need the bathroom and send the chart to Hoagie.
  4. Hoagie puts the chart on the flag design on Betsy Ross's table, in the middle room upstairs. The achievement unlocks when the future flag becomes a tentacle flag.

Costume Quest

Required: clothe Laverne in the costume.

  1. As Bernard, go through the main hall fireplace up to the roof, take the crank from the flagpole and send it to Laverne. This counts as Bernard's chimney climb for WWSCD?.
  2. As Laverne, tell the guard you're sick again, then go up through the main hall fireplace to the roof. This is her chimney climb.
  3. Crank the flag down and put it on. Laverne can now walk around the future Mansion in disguise.

Bernard's Mansion Sweep

Bernard now collects most of the present-day items. Several gags can only be done while he has a particular pair of items, so do them in this order. At some point in this sweep, step out the front door and talk to Dead Cousin Ted (the one holding the bird bath) for Are You My Mummy?.

And Then the Universe Explodes

Required: try to mix the decaf and caffeinated coffees.

In the kitchen, take the regular coffee, the decaf and the fork. Use one coffee on the other. It has to happen now, because the decaf is about to be used up.

Voiding the Warranty

Required: try to put something metal in the microwave.

In the kitchen, use the fork on the microwave. Any metal item works.

Then:

  • Take the funnel from the laundry room.
  • Put the decaf in Dr. Fred's mug in the lab. He starts sleepwalking.
  • Open the grating in the main hall and chase the chattering teeth into it to get them.

Energy Conscious

Required: turn off the television.

Upstairs, go into the left room ("W"), where a conventioneer is asleep. Turn on the TV and watch the diamond ad, which gives you the phone number you'll need later. Then turn the TV off.

And Then the Universe Implodes

Required: try to mix the disappearing ink with Booboo-B-Gone.

Dwayne's room (the middle room, "R") is chained shut at this point, but the door opens a little. Reach through the gap and take the disappearing ink from the table by the door. You don't need to go in. Use it on the Booboo-B-Gone straight away, before you send the Booboo-B-Gone anywhere.

That Joke Never Gets Old

Required: squirt five different people with disappearing ink.

Squirt anyone you meet. These targets are confirmed:

  • Green Tentacle
  • the sleeping conventioneer
  • Nurse Edna
  • Weird Ed
  • the cigar salesman
  • Dead Cousin Ted

Squirt five different people from this list during this sweep and check the achievement has unlocked before moving on. Several of them are on Bernard's path right now. If the ink later goes to Hoagie, the Founding Fathers also count. The squirt you later aim at Ed's stamp album is a story step and doesn't count toward this.

Music Appreciation Award

Required: reach yesterday without turning the stereo off.

In Green Tentacle's room (the right room, "F"):

  1. Talk to Green Tentacle and take the videotape.
  2. Push the right speaker, then turn the stereo on. The vibration knocks the fake barf down into the lobby.
  3. Leave the stereo on for the rest of the game.

Required: the stereo must be on before the last of the three final steps (powering both Chron-O-Johns and ordering the diamond). Turning it off and back on is reported to work. Leaving it on from now is the safest route and costs nothing. If it does get turned off, switch it back on before the diamond call.

The achievement unlocks during the final group trip to yesterday. Pick up the fake barf from the lobby floor.

That Only Works with Alligators

Required: try to flush the hamster.

Go to Weird Ed's room on the third floor (the right room) and take his hamster. Try to flush it straight away by dropping it on another kid's portrait. It won't go through, but the attempt unlocks the achievement.

Laverne can also try this later with the thawed hamster, before it goes on the generator.

I'm Sure He'd Never Notice

Required: try to swap the textbook with the stamp album.

While Weird Ed is looking at his stamp album, use the textbook on it. Do this before you send the textbook to Hoagie, and well before Bernard takes the album.

Games History Major

Required: play Maniac Mansion.

Use Weird Ed's computer. It unlocks when you start Maniac Mansion, so do Chef in the same session.

Chef

Required: cook the hamster in Maniac Mansion.

Dave is always one of your kids. Pick Syd and Razor as the other two. Razor is the confirmed cook, and Syd is also reported to work. Only Razor and Syd can microwave the hamster. Games History Major unlocks when you select Start Game. If every kid is captured, Maniac Mansion ends, so save inside Maniac Mansion immediately before the doorbell distraction in step 7.

  1. As Dave, pull the doormat on the porch, take the key, unlock the front door and go in.
  2. Go through the first door on the left into the kitchen and keep walking right until Nurse Edna catches Dave. This is on purpose.
  3. Switch to Razor. Go through the kitchen into the dining room and take the fruit drinks from the pantry.
  4. Go upstairs and take the wax fruit from the far-left art studio.
  5. Go through the big metal door in the middle of the hallway and up the far-right stairs to Green Tentacle. Give him the wax fruit first, then the fruit drinks. The order matters.
  6. Go up the left stairs and hide in Dr. Fred's room at the end of the corridor, next to Ed's room. Ed's room is the third door. Close the door.
  7. Save inside Maniac Mansion. Switch to Syd, ring the front doorbell and walk away. Weird Ed comes downstairs.
  8. Switch back to Razor. Wait until Ed has left his room and gone downstairs (roughly 10 seconds, but watch him rather than counting). Then go into Ed's room and take the hamster. Go back to the hiding room and wait until Ed has returned to his room before heading down to the kitchen. If Razor gets caught, reload the save from step 7.
  9. Open the microwave, put the hamster in, close the door and turn it on. The achievement unlocks when the hamster is cooked.

If a kid is thrown in the dungeon, a loose stone below one of the windows opens the exit when another kid helps from outside. When you're done, quit Maniac Mansion and go back to Bernard.

Now back in the main game:

  • Open the ice machine on the second floor, put the hamster in, and close it.
  • Send the textbook to Hoagie.
  • Send Laverne the Booboo-B-Gone, the fork, the fake barf and the chattering teeth.

Rap Sheet: Thief

Required: pick up 15 things that don't belong to you.

This counts story pickups as you go and unlocks on its own during this sweep. Kleptomaniac (30) and Adventure Gamer (45) use the same counter. The full story needs far more than 45 pickups.

Hoagie's Gathering and the Chimney

As Hoagie:

  • Take the oil and spaghetti from the kitchen.
  • Take the bucket and brush from the laundry room. Fill the bucket at the pump.
  • Put Bernard's flier in the suggestion box. This puts a shop vac in the future.
  • Upstairs, take the wine from the right-hand room, which is Ben Franklin's. Push George's bed and pull the cord, take the soap from the maid's cart and make soapy water.
  • Talk to Thomas Jefferson in the main hall and give him the wine for his time capsule.
  • On the third floor, read the textbook to the horse and take the dentures. Swap the left-handed hammer for the right-handed one.
  • In the attic, use Ned's bed, put the squeaky mattress on Jed's bed, use the mattress and take the mouse toy.

WWSCD?

Required: climb through the chimney with all three kids.

Bernard and Laverne have already used the main hall chimney. Hoagie hasn't, and normal play never makes him.

Go out of the attic window onto the roof and down the chimney into the main hall. The achievement unlocks when the third kid has made the trip.

TREAT AS MISSABLE: do it now, before George gets the cigar. That chain lights a fire in this fireplace, and achievement guides warn that the lit fireplace closes off Hoagie's climb.

Then send Laverne the can opener, the mouse toy, the spaghetti, the dentures and the red paint. The spaghetti arrives in the future as wet soggy noodles, which is what the human contest needs. Send Bernard the brush.

Laverne: Hamster, Skunk and Vinegar

Missing Pink

Required: try to mix the red paint and the Booboo-B-Gone.

Laverne now has both. Use one on the other.

Oh Right, I'm Playing a Cartoon!

Required: make a skunk.

  1. Use the Booboo-B-Gone on the fence outside. The achievement unlocks when the cat rubs against the fence and becomes a "skunk".
  2. Use the squeaky mouse toy on the cat to catch it.

ESRB Violation

Required: Laverne thinks about eating the cat.

While Laverne has the cat, use the fork on it.

TRUE MISSABLE: do this before the cat is used in the kennel, because the cat isn't available after that.

Don't Try This at Home

Required: microwave the frozen hamster.

Open the same ice machine on the second floor in the future and take the frozen hamster. Put it in the kitchen microwave.

Now You're Pushing It

Required: try to microwave the hamster again after he's thawed out.

Use the thawed hamster on the microwave again right away. If you didn't get That Only Works with Alligators as Bernard, try to flush the hamster now too. Both have to be done before the hamster goes on the generator.

Chateau Eau Neaux

Required: make vinegar.

The time capsule is in the left room upstairs ("W"). Open it with the can opener. Hoagie's 200-year-old wine has turned to vinegar. Take it and send it to Hoagie. Send the scalpel, the red paint and the Booboo-B-Gone to Bernard. Laverne has had the scalpel in her inventory since the start of the game.

Novelties and the Human Show

Hoagie opens the mailbox in front of the inn, takes the letter and sends it to Bernard.

Rap Sheet: Vandal

Required: deflate Oozo.

As Bernard, give the letter to Dwayne and take the flag gun. Then use the scalpel on Oozo the clown balloon and take the box o' laughs.

Novelty Enthusiast

Required: get all six novelty items.

The six are:

  • the chattering teeth
  • the disappearing ink
  • the fake barf
  • the flag gun
  • the cigar lighter gun
  • the exploding cigar

Swap the flag gun for the cigar lighter in the main hall, then talk to the cigar salesman and take the exploding cigar. The achievement unlocks once all six have been collected. All of them are needed for the story.

Send the cigar and the lighter to Hoagie and the box o' laughs to Laverne.

Rap Sheet: Kleptomaniac

Required: pick up 30 things that don't belong to you.

This unlocks on its own somewhere in this stretch.

It's an Honor Just to Compete

Required: enter the human contest.

As Laverne:

  1. Get a name tag from the blue tentacle running registration in the main hall.
  2. In the middle room upstairs ("R"), talk to Dead Cousin Ted for Are You My Mummy?, then take the roller skates and the extension cord.
  3. Put the skates on Dead Cousin Ted and push him. He rolls down to the registration area.
  4. Make a manual save, then use the name tag on Ted. The achievement unlocks when he's entered.

CURRENTLY COMMUNITY-FLAGGED / BUGGY: some players report this achievement not unlocking. Check that it has unlocked before you continue. If it hasn't, reload the save from step 4 and register Ted again.

Recommended order: skates, then push, then name tag. Some failures have been reported with other orders, and the exact cause isn't confirmed, so this order is a precaution rather than the only working sequence.

Can't Win and Chew Gum at the Same Time

Required: Laverne tries the chattering teeth on her human during the human show.

  1. After Ted is registered, take Laverne up to the human show stage on the third floor.
  2. Use the chattering teeth on Ted there.
  3. Check that the achievement has unlocked.
  4. Make a manual save.
  5. Send the teeth to Hoagie.

TRUE MISSABLE: do this before you give Ted the dentures, and before the teeth go to Hoagie. Hoagie uses them up on George.

Rap Sheet: Cheat

Required: disqualify Harold.

Use the fake barf on Harold, the other contestant.

Winning Is Better

Required: win the human contest.

At the third-floor human show, give Ted these three things to win the categories:

  • Best hair: the soggy spaghetti, then the fork.
  • Best smile: the dentures.
  • Best laugh: the box o' laughs.

Once Ted is ready and Harold is disqualified, talk to the judges. Ask them to judge each category in turn: Best Hair, Best Smile and Best Laugh. Ted wins all three and Best of Show. The achievement unlocks with the win. Make sure Laverne picks up the dinner certificate, which she needs for the kennel later.

The Founding Fathers and the Safe

As Hoagie, give George the exploding cigar. When his dentures pop out, give him the chattering teeth. Hancock calls for a fire, and Jefferson gives up his log. Take Hancock's blanket from the floor, go up through the attic window and put the blanket over the chimney. The smoke sends the Founding Fathers out the window.

Make a manual save now.

Our Lazy Speechwriters Didn't Cover This

Required: talk to Washington, Jefferson, or Hancock while they're outside.

Go outside and talk to any of them.

TRUE MISSABLE: do it before you pick up the quill. Then take the gold quill pen from the main hall table and send it to Bernard.

Rap Sheet: Yegg

Required: open the safe.

As Bernard:

  1. Go to the third-floor left room and push Nurse Edna. This works because of Hoagie's hammer swap.
  2. Put the videotape in the VCR and record. The surveillance monitor shows the sleepwalking Dr. Fred opening his safe. During this, the IRS arrest Fred and take him to the attic.
  3. Rewind the tape, set it to EP (slow motion), play it, then eject it.
  4. Go to the office, open the portrait and use the safe. Bernard enters the combination himself.
  5. Take the contract.

We're All Brothers

Required: ask the IRS agents if they're related.

Go up to the attic and talk to the IRS agents guarding Dr. Fred. Ask them whether they're brothers.

Rap Sheet: Forger

Required: try to sign the contract yourself with the quill pen.

Bernard has the contract and the quill. Use the quill on the contract.

TRUE MISSABLE: do this before the quill goes to Red and before Dr. Fred signs.

Rap Sheet: Fraud

Required: try to alter the contract with Booboo-B-Gone.

Use the Booboo-B-Gone on the contract.

TRUE MISSABLE: do this before Dr. Fred signs. Then send the quill back to Hoagie.

Behind Every Great Man Is a Quality Roadie

Required: Red makes a super battery with only a little help from Hoagie.

As Hoagie, give Red the oil, the vinegar and the gold quill. Take the super-battery.

Charging the Battery

You Call That a Hint?

Required: try to wash the dirty car with the brush.

As Bernard, go to the present-day parking lot and use Hoagie's brush on the filthy car. Then send the brush back to Hoagie.

Obvious, Really...

Required: make it rain.

As Hoagie, wash Ben Franklin's dirty carriage outside the inn with the soapy water and brush. It starts to rain, and Franklin goes inside.

Then go up to Franklin's room and give him the lab coat. He goes out to the field to the right of the inn. Put the super-battery in the kite's pocket. Push the kite when Franklin says "Now!". If you miss the cue, you can try again. After the lightning, pick up the charged battery.

That Should Have Worked

Required: Hoagie uses battery with Chron-O-John instead of plug.

Use the charged battery on Hoagie's Chron-O-John itself.

TRUE MISSABLE: do this before you plug the battery in.

Number One

Required: power Hoagie's Chron-o-John.

Use the battery on the plug. Hoagie's Chron-O-John now has power.

Laverne's Chron-O-John

Laverne's power chain needs a tiny sweater and a cooperative hamster.

Of Course It Would Still Weigh the Same

Required: get a tiny sweater.

As Bernard:

  1. Close the door of the left room upstairs ("W") and take the keys from behind it.
  2. Give the keys to the masked man and take the crowbar.
  3. Use the crowbar on the gum stuck to the lobby floor. Then use the gum in your inventory to chew it and free the second dime.
  4. Put both dimes in the FickleFingers machine and take the sweater.
  5. Use the crowbar on the candy machine to get quarters.
  6. Put the sweater and the quarters in the laundry room dryer.

Two hundred years of drying shrink it. As Laverne, take the tiny sweater from the dryer and put it on the hamster.

You Suck

Required: vacuum up a hamster.

As Laverne:

  1. Go to the kennel, give the dinner certificate to the guard, push the switch, then use the skunk cat. The Edisons run away, and the future lab becomes reachable.
  2. In the lab, plug the extension cord into the outlet below the generator. Use the cord on the lab window, then go outside and connect it to the plug of Laverne's Chron-O-John, to the right of the Mansion.
  3. Make a manual save. From here the hamster gags are gone, so check that That Only Works with Alligators and Now You're Pushing It have unlocked.
  4. Put the sweatered hamster on the generator. A boxing glove knocks Laverne back and the hamster runs off into the mouse hole.
  5. Use the shop vac on the mouse hole. The shop vac is in the lab because of the flier Hoagie put in the suggestion box.

Number Two

Required: power Laverne's Chron-O-John.

Open the shop vac's hatch and take the dust ball, which has the hamster inside. Put it on the generator. Laverne's Chron-O-John now has power.

Rap Sheet: Adventure Gamer

Required: pick up 45 things that don't belong to you.

This usually unlocks by now. If it hasn't, it will during the diamond chain. You don't need to farm for it.

The Diamond

Rescuing Dr. Fred

As Bernard:

  1. Go up through the main hall fireplace to the roof and in through the attic window. The IRS agents block the stairs. Take the rope that's tied around Dr. Fred.
  2. Go back out to the roof and use the rope on the pulley above the window.
  3. Go down the chimney and out the front. Use the red paint on Dead Cousin Ted so he looks like Dr. Fred wrapped in red tape, then use the dangling rope on him.
  4. Go back up to the roof and pull the rope. Ted is hauled up into the attic.
  5. Go into the attic and use Ted on Fred to swap them.
  6. Use the rope on Fred, go out to the roof and pull the rope. Fred is lowered down and ends up in the lab.

Coffee Achiever

Required: wake up Dr. Fred.

In the lab, use the funnel on Dr. Fred, then pour the regular coffee into the funnel. Fred wakes up.

The Contract

Olive Branch

Required: return the stamp album to Weird Ed.

  1. In Weird Ed's room, squirt the disappearing ink on his stamp album. Ed throws it out.
  2. Pick up the stamp, and also pick up the album.
  3. Give the album back to Ed.

The story only needs the stamp, so returning the album is easy to skip by accident.

Dialog Puzzles Are Hard

Required: get Fred to sign the contract.

Make sure Rap Sheet: Forger and Rap Sheet: Fraud have both unlocked, then make a manual save.

  1. Use the contract on Dr. Fred.
  2. Pick "Oh, forget it…", then the line about starting a petition to ban all tentacles. Fred signs.
  3. Put the stamp on the signed contract and send it to Hoagie.
  4. Hoagie puts it in the mailbox in front of the inn.

The royalty money lands in Fred's Swiss account in the present, so Bernard can now afford the diamond.

Final Check Before the Diamond

Both Chron-O-Johns now have power, so ordering the diamond starts the ending at once. Before you pick up the phone, check that all of these have unlocked, and finish any that haven't:

  • Are You My Mummy?
  • That Joke Never Gets Old
  • Master Plumber
  • Most Annoying Guest Ever
  • Energy Conscious
  • Games History Major
  • Chef
  • Olive Branch
  • We're All Brothers
  • Dude, It's Like, Cannibalism
  • WWSCD?
  • Every gag listed above in the route

If one of these is still missing, find its heading in this guide (each achievement has its own) and follow the steps there. The two that are easiest to miss:

  • That Joke Never Gets Old: squirt the disappearing ink on anyone from the target list who hasn't been squirted yet: Green Tentacle, the sleeping conventioneer, Nurse Edna, Weird Ed, the cigar salesman, Dead Cousin Ted.
  • Rap Sheet: Adventure Gamer: pick up any loose items you skipped in all three time periods until it unlocks.

The numbers to check: 52 of the 58 achievements should be unlocked before you make the call. The only six left should be Flush, Music Appreciation Award, Yesterday's News, ...Take on the Words!, Mental Patience and OCD. If more than those six are missing, find and finish them now.

Also confirm that Green Tentacle's stereo is still on, that both Chron-O-Johns have power (Number One and Number Two), and that the Swiss bankbook is still in Bernard's inventory. Then make a manual save as a precaution.

Flush

Required: acquire a diamond.

As Bernard, use the office phone and call the number from the TV ad to order the diamond. The money from the contract pays for it, and Bernard has the Swiss bankbook. You don't need to collect it. The achievement unlocks when the diamond is acquired, and the ending sequence begins.

Reaching Yesterday

The Final Confrontation

Music Appreciation Award

This unlocks during the cutscene where all three kids travel back to yesterday together. That only happens if the stereo was on before the final step.

Yesterday's News

Required: defeat Purple Tentacle yesterday.

  1. On the second floor, open the middle door marked "R". Purple Tentacle fires his shrink ray at you. While you're small, go into the "R" room and through its mouse hole into Green Tentacle's room. If you grow back before you reach the hole, go back out and open the "R" door again to get shrunk again.
  2. Once you're full-size again, take the bowling ball in Green Tentacle's room.
  3. In the lab, bowl it at the Purple Tentacle clones.
  4. Talk to Purple Tentacle and pick these lines in order:
  • "Just what is it you have against humans, anyway?"
  • "Sounds like that's all Dr. Fred's fault, really."
  • "You're pretty handy with that ray gun."
  • "Why don't you zap Dr. Fred if you hate him so much?"

The last line triggers the ending.

...Take on the Words!

Required: sit through the end credits.

Let the credits play to the very end without pressing anything.

Mental Patience

This unlocks during the ending sequence, around when the credits begin, if no cutscene was ever skipped. This can happen before ...Take on the Words!, so keep letting the credits roll.

OCD

Required: get all other achievements in the game.

The achievement unlocks once the other 57 are unlocked.

CURRENTLY COMMUNITY-FLAGGED / BUGGY: OCD sometimes doesn't unlock after the final achievement. The widely reported workaround:

  1. Load the autosave or any save. OCD often unlocks a few moments after loading.
  2. If it still hasn't unlocked, fully close the game: press the Xbox button, highlight the game and choose Quit from its options menu. Then relaunch it and load a save again.

This is a longstanding community-reported issue. How often it happens on current installs isn't established, and the workaround is widely reported but not guaranteed. A delayed Xbox sync can also add a short wait. This workaround is for OCD only.
