▶Before You Start
DOOM 64 on Xbox has 10 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore. All of them are in the base game, including the Lost Levels episode, which is free and built in. There is no DLC and no online or co-op requirement.
- Missables: None. Every level can be reloaded with the original password system, so nothing is lost for good.
- Playthroughs: You don't need a full campaign run. The original N64 passwords double as a level select, so you can drop straight into the levels each achievement needs.
- Difficulty: Only Escape Artist is tied to a skill level (Watch Me Die!, the highest). Everything else can be done on Be Gentle!.
- Hardest part: The two caged Cyberdemons on No Escape on Watch Me Die!, with a third loose Cyberdemon roaming the level.
- Status (October 2026): DOOM 64 is still sold on the Xbox Store. No achievements are currently known to be unobtainable. Walk the Path is CURRENTLY COMMUNITY-FLAGGED / BUGGY on TrueAchievements, but successful direct-password completions have been documented. See the Lost Levels section for what to do if it doesn't unlock.
▶Route Overview
- Start a normal new game on Staging Area. Find a secret and destroy all ten barrels to reach the hidden level Hectic.
- Use passwords to load The Lair, No Escape, The Absolution and Cat and Mouse, earning one or two achievements each.
- Load the Final Judgement password and finish the Lost Levels.
A normal campaign playthrough alone does not earn everything. The Fun levels can only be reached by password or the Features menu, and Escape Artist needs a Watch Me Die! run. The password route is the standard one.
▶Passwords, Saves and Achievement Safety
- Controls: A is Use (doors, switches and wall panels), RT fires, and LB/RB cycle weapons.
- Entering passwords: On the main menu, open Options and choose Password. Enter all 16 characters exactly as written; the spaces are only there for readability. Each password sets your level, skill and loadout.
- Saving: You can save at any time from the pause menu, and a save keeps the exact state of the level. Save before each boss or key pickup as a precaution.
- Features menu: Any Staging Area password, or completing Hectic through its alternate exit, unlocks the Features menu in the pause menu. This guide's main route doesn't need it at all. If you ever use it, use it only to warp. Warping is reported not to disable achievements. Every other Features option (invulnerability, weapons, health, ammo and similar) disables them for the rest of that session, so if you touch one by accident, close and restart the game, then reload your password before continuing.
- Weapon pickups: Weapons you start with from a password do not count as found. The two weapon achievements need you to physically pick up the weapon in the level.
▶Staging Area: New Game
Start a new game from the main menu on any skill level. Be Gentle! is easiest. Don't use a password here: Secret Sleuth and the Hectic achievement are meant for a normal game.
▶Barrel Hunt for Hectic
Hectic is a hidden level. A password can load it directly, but that doesn't count for its achievement: you have to find the secret entrance in Staging Area (MAP01). You open its teleporter by destroying all ten explosive barrels in the level. Two of them are inside secret areas, so the barrel hunt also earns Secret Sleuth along the way.
The ten barrels:
- The lower start area you drop into, next to the backpack.
- The room with a ledge holding boxes of bullets, up the stairs and along the conveyor.
- The maze, just after the lift. Turn around at the top.
- A secret room in the lift room, behind the hidden wall panel without circles in the northwest corner. The room also holds armor. On Be Gentle!, the blue key is in plain sight near a switch in the upper part of the maze; grab it now for the blue door.
- The room past the blue door.
- Under the soulsphere pillar. Cross the gap to the switch beside it and press it. The pillar lowers for only a short time, so step into the lowered recess before it rises, then ride it up to the soulsphere. Take the soulsphere, then shoot the switch behind it to drop down to the barrel. A teleporter there takes you back up to the start ledge.
- The large room opened by a wall switch.
- The small yellow-outlined room full of health bonuses. Step inside and the floor drops, revealing the barrel.
- Inside the regular exit room. Don't press the exit switch, or the level ends and the barrel hunt resets.
- The raised start ledge where you began the level. Leave this one for last.
The order above is a sensible route, but any order works as long as the start-ledge barrel is last.
The teleporter to Hectic is in the Berserk-pack room, through the door directly behind where you start the level. When the tenth barrel explodes, a booth in that room's wall opens for only about five seconds, and only once per game.
- Open the door to the Berserk room first. Shoot the last barrel from the doorway through the wire mesh, then run left into the booth.
- Save just before you shoot the last barrel. If you miss the window, reload that save and try again.
▶Secret Sleuth
This unlocks the first time you discover a secret area. Staging Area has several, and two of the Hectic barrels are inside secret areas, so this normally pops during the barrel hunt. Any secret in any level counts. If it is still locked once you are in Hectic, restart Staging Area and enter either of those secret rooms, or find a secret in any other level.
▶RVNH3CT1CD3M0???
RVNH3CT1CD3M0???100G
The description only asks you to locate Hectic, so this should unlock when you arrive. If it hasn't unlocked on arrival, take Hectic's normal exit, which you can use right at the start of the level.
Hectic also has a harder alternate exit. You need to kill all seven enemies and use the red, blue and yellow keys on the bars in the start room. That exit unlocks the Features menu, but this route never needs it.
▶Password Levels
Return to the main menu and use Options, then Password, for each of the following levels. They can be done in any order. The Lost Levels finale comes last.
▶The Lair
Password: V87L 7C28 BDT1 59VB
This loads MAP30 The Lair on Be Gentle! with full health, armor and weapons, and two of the three Demon Keys already in your inventory. You only need to pick up the third key from this level.
The Demon Key sits on top of a tall pillar in the level's large central chamber. You start in a locked room, so the first job is getting there:
- Open either side door in the starting room and work around the side rooms that circle behind the starting area, killing the Imps and Lost Souls on the way. Pick up the blue skull key there.
- Return to the starting room and unlock the blue door.
- Kill the Spectre behind it, then press Use on the distinct middle wall panel to reveal a staircase.
- Downstairs, press the demonic face panel and then the switch it exposes. Go through the route that opens and kill the Hell Knights to reach the central pillar room.
- In the pillar room, press the wall switch between the two side-by-side doorways. This raises three stairways along the room's walls.
- Climb the center stairway and turn left into the small curved room. Stepping inside briefly reveals the first switch on the far wall of the large central room, high up and just right of the right-hand doorway. You see it through the curved room's wide window. Shoot it with the pistol, shotgun or chaingun. If you miss it, step out and back in to reveal it again.
- Right away, turn and look through the small windows beside the stairway. A second switch briefly appears on the far wall of the curved room across from you. Shoot it quickly, before it hides again, and the pillar lowers so you can grab the key.
If the second switch doesn't appear, shoot the first one again. You don't need to finish the level once the achievement unlocks.
▶Persistence is the Key
This unlocks when your third Demon Key is picked up. Grabbing the key on The Lair with this password counts, because the password already gives you the other two. Save before you reach for it as a precaution.
▶No Escape on Watch Me Die!
Password: YWW4 7HVD BCLG RKVB
This loads MAP24 No Escape on Watch Me Die! with 200% health and armor, every weapon, full ammo and all three Demon Keys. The Unmaker is fully powered. No Escape has no exit switch. The level ends automatically once the two caged Cyberdemons are dead. On Watch Me Die! a third Cyberdemon is already loose when you arrive. You don't have to kill it, but it will harass you while you work on the caged pair.
- If the loose Cyberdemon gets in your way, kill it with the fully powered Unmaker or the BFG9000. Otherwise, avoid it and focus on the cages.
- The two caged Cyberdemons are the ones that matter. They are in the large barred cage in the main courtyard. Clear any nearby attackers first, then stand in front of the cage and fire through the gaps. The safest way to kill them is with bullet weapons (shotgun, super shotgun or chaingun), because projectiles like rockets can hit the bars instead. Players have also reported success firing the fully powered Unmaker through the bars, which is much faster, but it isn't guaranteed. Alternatively, use the level's switches to release them into the open and fight them there.
- The tops of the outdoor elevators give you height that can help you avoid rockets, but splash damage can still reach you, so don't treat them as completely safe.
- Save after each Cyberdemon kill.
▶Rip and Tear!
Rip and Tear!100G
This unlocks when you kill your first Cyberdemon, which happens naturally on No Escape: either caged Cyberdemon, or the loose one if you fight it.
▶Escape Artist
Escape Artist125G
This unlocks when you finish No Escape on Watch Me Die!, which happens automatically once both caged Cyberdemons are dead. If the level somehow doesn't end, kill the loose Cyberdemon as well. The password already sets Watch Me Die!, so don't change anything.
▶The Absolution
Password: W83M 7H20 BDY0 N9VB
This loads MAP28 The Absolution, the last map of the main campaign, on Be Gentle!. You start with 200% health and armor, all weapons, a backpack, full ammo and all three Demon Keys. The keys operate three Demon Key plates that close the monster-spawning portals, which lets you skip most of the monster waves before the Mother Demon. W93M 7H20 BCY0 PSVB is an alternative "super status" password for the same level.
Do the two weapon pickups below first, because the start-room door can't be reopened once you leave and the level ends the moment the Mother Demon dies. Then head for the courtyard.
The plates only matter once the courtyard encounter has started, so trigger it first (see Mother May I? below). If a plate still won't respond after monsters are spawning, go back to the main menu, enter the password again and play the level without repeating the weapon pickups. A second load has fixed this for some players. You can collect both weapons later in Final Judgement instead.
▶My Cause is Just, My Will is Strong
This unlocks when you pick up a BFG9000 in the level. The one you start with doesn't count. The BFG9000 and the Unmaker are both in the starting room, but you can't collect them at full ammo. Fire one shot from the BFG9000, then walk over its pickup to collect it.
▶Unholy Firepower
This unlocks when you pick up the Unmaker. As with the BFG9000, fire one Unmaker shot to drop below full ammo, then grab the Unmaker in the starting room.
If either weapon achievement doesn't unlock, carry on. Final Judgement's starting room has both weapons to pick up as well, and the Lost Levels section explains how.
▶Mother May I?
Mother May I?150G
This unlocks when you kill the Mother Demon on The Absolution. She doesn't appear until the courtyard encounter is cleared. Head out to the courtyard, which has three monster-spawning chambers. Enter or approach one of them to start the encounter. Then activate the Demon Key plate behind each of the three chambers to close their portals, and kill every remaining ordinary monster. The central pillar lowers, and the Mother Demon arrives shortly after. Save before she appears.
If some monsters never teleport in after the portals close, the Mother Demon may not spawn. If nothing is left to kill and she still hasn't appeared, reload the password and try again.
The Mother Demon fires homing missiles and sweeping flames, but she goes down quickly to the fully powered Unmaker or a handful of BFG9000 shots. Keep moving sideways between volleys. The level ends when she dies.
▶Cat and Mouse
Password: YRXM 7HVC BCMZ FJVB
This loads MAP25 Cat and Mouse, one of the "Fun" levels, on Be Gentle! with maximum health, armor, weapons and ammo. Fun levels can't be reached through normal play, so a password or a Features warp is the only way in. Using the password avoids the Features menu altogether. It is generally considered the easiest Fun level.
▶That was Fun
That was Fun100G
This unlocks when you finish any Fun level. Cat and Mouse has no exit to find: the level ends automatically the moment its Cyberdemon dies. Save often. Password RY48 9BFY 6?JM KBK? loads the Fun level Playground on Be Gentle! instead, but you start that one with only a pistol.
▶The Lost Levels
The Lost Levels is a six-map episode, MAP34 Plant Ops to MAP39 Final Judgement, added in the 2020 release. Only the final map is needed, and a password loads it directly.
Password: QSSM 7H14 BDH6 YSVB
This loads MAP39 Final Judgement on Be Gentle! with maximum health, armor, weapons and ammo, and all three Demon Keys already in your inventory. You don't need to hunt for the keys around the map, and you never touch the Features menu.
▶Final Judgement
Final Judgement's boss, the Sister Resurrector, is released from behind a barred gate to the north. She fights much like the Mother Demon.
- If either weapon achievement is still locked, deal with it first. You start with full cell ammo, so fire enough energy ammo to make room, then walk over the BFG9000 and Unmaker pickups in the starting room.
- Press the starting switch to open the way out, then head north to the gate.
- Because you already hold all three Demon Keys, press the three colored switches to lower the gate's bars, then press the final switch to wake the boss.
- Save before pressing the final switch. Once you press it, she can teleport to the opposite end of the map, so turn around and head back south to find and fight her. Kill her with the fully powered Unmaker or the BFG9000.
▶Walk the Path
Walk the Path125G
This unlocks when you finish the Lost Levels, which means killing the Sister Resurrector and completing Final Judgement. The game confirms it with a message congratulating you on completing the Lost Levels.
If it doesn't unlock, first give it a few minutes to sync. If it still doesn't appear, return to the main menu, reload the Final Judgement password and beat the boss again without using any Features option. If that also fails, try general Xbox sync troubleshooting: sign out of your profile, restart the console, sign back in and check again. This is not a guaranteed fix for this achievement.
