Completion Plan

Xbox Status and Route Plan

FINAL FANTASY has 23 Xbox achievements worth 1,000G. The Xbox release is the Pixel Remaster version for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and this guide is written for that achievement list. The separate Master of I completion achievement found on some other platforms is not part of the Xbox list.

Everything is single-player and can be completed offline. There are no co-op or multiplayer requirements, no difficulty achievements, no DLC achievement packs, no mutually exclusive achievement routes, and no New Game+ requirement. One playthrough is sufficient.

As of 2026-09-17, no achievement is CURRENTLY CONFIRMED UNOBTAINABLE or CURRENTLY CONFIRMED DISCONTINUED on Xbox.

There are no true missables. Every treasure location and every dungeon stays accessible until you defeat Chaos, and every Bestiary entry except Chaos himself can be recorded before the final fight; Chaos is the last entry and is added when you defeat him. After the credits, the game saves clear data, and loading it returns you outside the final dungeon with your party intact, so leftover cleanup is still possible. The efficient route still finishes every chest, Bestiary entry, level requirement, and kill count before Chaos, and keeps a backup save from the overworld before the final dungeon as a precaution.

If a count-based achievement ever fails to appear the moment its requirement is met, an optional first step is to win one more battle or return to the title screen before assuming something went wrong.

The efficient route is:

  • Use the 4x EXP and 4x gil boosts unless you want the original leveling pace. These boosts do not block achievements.
  • Keep random encounters enabled whenever you enter a new region or dungeon so the Bestiary fills naturally.
  • Use the in-game map chest counter and finish every available chest in a location before leaving it.
  • After obtaining the Mystic Key, immediately sweep every earlier locked room before continuing the story.
  • After obtaining the airship, complete the Citadel of Trials and Dragon Caves for the class upgrade before the late-game dungeons.
  • In the Flying Fortress, collect the Adamantite and hunt Warmech before defeating Tiamat.
  • Before entering the final Chaos Shrine, make a manual save on the overworld in a slot you will not overwrite. Inside, finish the last seven treasure chests and hunt Iron Golem on B4 if it is still missing from the Bestiary.

Boosts, Maps, and Cumulative Tracking

The Boost menu can raise EXP and gil gains to 4x. Use both for the fastest completion. Encounter control is also achievement-safe, but do not disable encounters in a location until its important Bestiary entries are covered. On return trips through already-cleared areas, switching encounters off saves a large amount of time.

The world map shows treasure progress by location. Treat that counter as your authoritative chest checklist. There are 249 treasure chests in total, and none is permanently missable. The Bestiary contains 128 entries. Open it from Config → Bestiary during play, or from Title Screen → Extras → Bestiary. Its location display is the safest cleanup tool: unknown enemies appear as question marks against the areas where they can be found, so check it whenever you are unsure what a region still owes you. Bestiary progress is stored separately from your save files.

For map locations, press LT + B on the world map to show the location display. Yellow markers are places you have visited and gray markers are places you have not. This is the tracker for Adventurous Wayfarer.

Do not waste time forcing every rare enemy the first time its name becomes available. Several early enemies also appear in later dungeons. The exceptions worth deliberately handling at their most convenient point are Ghost in the Sunken Shrine, Soldier and Warmech in the Flying Fortress, and Iron Golem in the past Chaos Shrine.

Apprentice Warrior

Defeat 100 monsters. This is cumulative and will unlock naturally while filling the Bestiary.

Experienced Warrior

Defeat 300 monsters. Continue fighting normally in new areas rather than disabling encounters everywhere.

Legendary Warrior

Defeat 500 monsters. The Warmech hunt, Bestiary cleanup, and level 50 requirement give more than enough combat to reach this without a separate grind in most runs.

Thrifty Spender

Obtain 10,000 gil. Gil obtained counts cumulatively, so spending money does not undo progress toward this achievement.

Smart Saver

Obtain 50,000 gil cumulatively. With the 4x gil boost this should arrive during normal progression.

Moneybags

Obtain 100,000 gil cumulatively. You do not need to hold 100,000 gil at once. Keep buying useful spells and equipment as needed.

Field Research- Basic

Complete 10% of the Bestiary. This unlocks automatically as you defeat new enemy types.

Field Research- Advanced

Complete 50% of the Bestiary. Keep encounters active in new regions and check the Bestiary habitat map periodically rather than grinding blindly.

Rookie Treasure Hunter

Collect treasure from 10% of the game's chests. Open every chest available during each first visit and this will come very early.

Veteran Treasure Hunter

Collect treasure from 50% of the game's chests. The achievement will arrive naturally during the first half of the route if you keep each location's map counter complete.

Cornelia, Garland, and the Ship

Cornelia and the First Chaos Shrine Visit

Choose your four starting classes, buy basic equipment and magic, then head northwest to the Chaos Shrine. Party composition does not affect achievements. A Fighter, Monk, White Mage, and Black Mage party is a low-friction choice if you simply want an efficient completion.

Inside the Chaos Shrine, collect the chests that are currently accessible. Leave the locked Mystic Key rooms alone for now. Go to the central chamber and defeat Garland.

A Hero's Journey

This unlocks when Garland is defeated and Princess Sarah is rescued. Back at Castle Cornelia, speak with Sarah and receive the Lute. You will need it much later in the final dungeon.

Matoya's Cave and Pravoka

Cross the rebuilt bridge. Matoya's Cave is optional at this point, but you must return later to trade the Crystal Eye, so it is a convenient early stop. If you visit now, open every chest in the cave; Matoya's Cave is one of the most common places players come up short on the chest total. If you skip it now, finish its chest counter on the Crystal Eye visit.

Continue east to Pravoka. Defeat Bikke's pirates and speak with him to obtain the ship. Before sailing away, use the ship to trigger the game's hidden minigame.

Hidden Game

While aboard the ship (not the airship), hold A and tap B repeatedly. Expect roughly 55 or more presses before the 15 Puzzle prompt appears.

The achievement unlocks for starting the minigame. You do not need to solve it or earn a particular score, so you can quit immediately. If it does not appear right away, winning a battle or returning to the title screen is an optional troubleshooting step.

Elfheim, the Mystic Key, and the Earth Crystal

Elfheim, Western Keep, and Marsh Cave

Sail south to Elfheim and enter Elven Castle. Speak with the sleeping prince's attendants, then travel northwest to Western Keep. The king there sends you after the Crown.

Go to Marsh Cave and explore it fully. Open every chest you can currently reach and obtain the Crown from the guarded chest on B3. Some nearby chests are still behind Mystic Key doors, so leave only those locked rooms unfinished.

Return to Western Keep and give the Crown to the king. Defeat Astos and take the Crystal Eye.

Travel back to Matoya's Cave and return the Crystal Eye to receive the Jolt Tonic. Finish Matoya's chest counter now if you skipped it earlier. Bring the Jolt Tonic to the healer at Elven Castle. The prince awakens and gives you the Mystic Key.

Mystic Key Cleanup Sweep

Do the locked-room sweep immediately. This is the cleanest point in the game to remove all early treasure debt.

Clear the Mystic Key rooms at Elven Castle, Western Keep, Marsh Cave B3, Castle Cornelia, and the Chaos Shrine. Castle Cornelia contains the Nitro Powder required for story progression, so do not leave without it.

Use the world map after the sweep and confirm every visited treasure-bearing location is complete except places whose unopened chests are not yet accessible. This is also a good time to switch random encounters off for the backtracking itself, then turn them back on when you reach new territory.

Mount Duergar and Melmond

Sail to Mount Duergar. Open all ten chests in the cave and speak with Nerrick while carrying the Nitro Powder. He destroys the land bridge and opens the canal to the western sea.

Continue through the canal to Melmond. Restock, then head southwest to the Cavern of Earth.

Cavern of Earth, Giant's Cave, and Sage's Cave

Explore the Cavern of Earth and clear every chest you can reach on the first descent. Defeat the Vampire and take the Star Ruby.

Leave the dungeon and go to Giant's Cave. Give the Star Ruby to the Titan so he moves aside. Collect the cave's treasure before exiting through the far side.

Visit Sage's Cave and speak with Sadda to receive the Earth Rod.

Return to the Cavern of Earth. The Earth Rod opens the blocked route beyond the Vampire's chamber. Finish the remaining chest counters as you descend and defeat Lich at the Earth Crystal.

Earth's Blessing

This unlocks when Lich is defeated and the Earth Crystal's light is restored.

Fire Crystal, Ice Cavern, and the Airship

Crescent Lake and Mount Gulg

Travel to Crescent Lake. Speak with the circle of sages on the eastern side of town to receive the Canoe.

Use the Canoe to reach Mount Gulg. Fully explore the dungeon and complete its treasure counter before fighting Marilith. With 4x EXP active, the dungeon should be comfortable even if you have done little optional grinding.

Rekindled Flame

This unlocks when Marilith is defeated and the Fire Crystal's light is restored.

Cavern of Ice and the Levistone

From the Crescent Lake region, use the river network to reach the Cavern of Ice. This dungeon has pits that move you between floors, so use the local map and finish its treasure counter rather than trying to memorize a single linear path.

Reach the chamber containing the Levistone, defeat the Evil Eye guarding it, and collect the key item. Before leaving, check the Bestiary and chest counter. Ice Gigas is one commonly overlooked entry here, but anything that also has a later habitat can safely wait for cleanup.

Take the Levistone to the desert just south of Crescent Lake. The airship rises from the sand and becomes your main transport for the rest of the game.

Class Change and Northern World Cleanup

Citadel of Trials

With the airship, make the Citadel of Trials your next major stop. Enter the dungeon, follow the teleport maze, clear every chest, and obtain the Rat's Tail from the final treasure room.

The exact order of optional airship destinations is flexible, but doing the Citadel now gives you the class upgrade before the remaining major dungeons.

Dragon Caves and Bahamut

Fly to the Dragon Caves on the Cardia Islands. Explore the separate cave entrances rather than visiting only Bahamut's chamber. Several entrances contain treasure needed for 100% chest completion.

Once the Dragon Caves' treasure is cleared, enter Bahamut's chamber and speak with him while carrying the Rat's Tail.

Token of Courage

This unlocks when Bahamut accepts the Rat's Tail and promotes all four party members to their upgraded classes.

The class change is permanent and makes the remaining bosses and spell access easier. It is not tied to a second playthrough.

Oxyale, Waterfall Cavern, and the Water Crystal

Desert Caravan and Gaia

Make sure you have 40,000 gil, then fly to the large desert on Onrac's continent. The hidden Desert Caravan sits in a small isolated sand patch in the northwest part of that desert, near the forest edge. Walk into it and buy the Bottled Faerie for 40,000 gil.

Fly to Gaia and enter the town. The faerie escapes from the bottle. Find her at the spring in Gaia and speak with her to receive Oxyale.

Entering both the Caravan and Gaia also advances your map-location coverage.

Waterfall Cavern

Land near the river west of Onrac and use the Canoe to enter Waterfall Cavern. The cave has one main treasure room.

Open all six chests and speak with the robot in the same general destination area to receive the Warp Cube. The chests alone are not enough. The Warp Cube is required later to move from Mirage Tower to the Flying Fortress.

Keep encounters on until you have covered the local Bestiary entries. Green Dragon is a useful one to confirm here if it is still missing.

Onrac and Sunken Shrine

Go to Onrac and speak with the woman by the submersible on the eastern side of town. With Oxyale, you can descend to the Sunken Shrine.

The Sunken Shrine branches through several floors. Explore both sides rather than rushing directly to Kraken. Complete the treasure counter and make sure you collect the Rosetta Stone from the upper portion of the shrine.

Keep encounters enabled until Ghost is recorded in the Bestiary. Ghost appears on 2F and 4F of the Sunken Shrine, so if it is missing, fight on those floors rather than searching the whole dungeon.

Once the shrine is clear, descend to Kraken and defeat him.

Revitalizing Waters

This unlocks when Kraken is defeated and the Water Crystal's light is restored.

Lufenia, Mirage Tower, and the Wind Crystal

Melmond and Lufenia

Return to Melmond with the Rosetta Stone and speak with Dr. Unne. He uses it to teach the party the Lufenian language.

Fly to Lufenia and speak with the Lufenian who gives you the Chime. The Chime allows entry to Mirage Tower.

At this stage you should have visited every major world location required by the completion route: the story towns and dungeons, Citadel of Trials, Dragon Caves, Desert Caravan, Gaia, Waterfall Cavern, Onrac, and Lufenia. If a location is still absent from your map records, correct it now rather than waiting until the final dungeon.

Mirage Tower

Use the Chime to enter Mirage Tower. Clear every floor's treasure counter and keep encounters active for its Bestiary entries.

On the top floor, the Warp Cube activates the teleporter to the Flying Fortress. If the teleporter does not work, you skipped the robot in Waterfall Cavern and need to return there for the Warp Cube.

Flying Fortress, Adamantite, and Warmech

The Flying Fortress is the most important cleanup window before the final dungeon.

Clear all treasure on each floor. On 2F, take the Adamantite from the southwest treasure room. Do not leave it behind because it is the material required for Excalibur.

Keep encounters on through the fortress until its unique Bestiary entries are recorded. Soldier should be handled here; if it is missing, fight on 3F and 4F.

When you reach 5F, stop on the long bridge leading toward Tiamat and hunt Warmech before fighting the boss. Warmech appears only as a rare encounter in this part of the Flying Fortress. Its spawn is genuinely uncommon and can take anything from a quick encounter to a long RNG grind, so do not rely on an exact attempt count.

With 4x EXP active, the hunt also doubles as your best late-game leveling session. You can flee from ordinary encounters to accelerate the search, but make sure your repeated battle command will not accidentally flee when Warmech finally appears. If Warmech runs away on its own, it still counts for the Bestiary.

Adventurous Wayfarer

This unlocks after you have traveled to every required map location. If you followed the route and entered all optional completion locations, it should unlock by the time the Flying Fortress is reached or after the game's area-transition tracking catches up.

If it has not unlocked, press LT + B on the world map and look for gray markers. Each gray marker is a location you have not yet entered; visit every one until only yellow markers remain. The most easily overlooked completion locations are the Citadel of Trials, the separate Dragon Caves area, Desert Caravan, Waterfall Cavern, and Lufenia.

Tiamat and the Wind Crystal

Once Warmech is safely recorded and the Flying Fortress treasure counter is complete, continue across 5F and defeat Tiamat.

Wind's Caress

This unlocks when Tiamat is defeated and the Wind Crystal's light is restored.

Return to Mount Duergar for Excalibur

Leave the Flying Fortress and return to Mount Duergar. Speak with the blacksmith while carrying the Adamantite.

Sword of Myth

The blacksmith forges Excalibur from the Adamantite. The achievement unlocks when you receive Excalibur.

Equip it on a compatible upgraded class for the final dungeon.

Final Chaos Shrine and 100% Cleanup

Pre-Final Audit

Before entering the Chaos Shrine for the final time, open the world map and inspect every treasure-bearing location. Every location you have already completed should show its full chest count.

Check the Bestiary habitat map as well. Clean up any unknown entries that belong to the overworld or earlier dungeons now. Do not worry about the enemies exclusive to the past Chaos Shrine or Chaos himself.

This is also the ideal point to check levels. If one party member is behind because of deaths during earlier grinding, catch that character up before the final boss.

Once the audit is done, make a manual save on the overworld in a slot you will not overwrite before entering the Chaos Shrine. Regular saves are not available inside the final dungeon, so this is your independent backup.

Seasoned Hero

Reach level 50 with all four party members.

With 4x EXP, this will usually unlock during the Warmech hunt or before the end of the past Chaos Shrine. If any character is still below 50, fight on the upper Flying Fortress floors or in the final dungeon until all four have reached the requirement. Do this before fighting Chaos.

Past Chaos Shrine and the Last Seven Chests

Enter the Chaos Shrine and touch the black orb in Garland's former chamber to travel 2,000 years into the past. On 3F, interact with the stone tablet; the Lute from Princess Sarah is used automatically and opens the route downward.

There are seven treasure chests in this final dungeon. Clear the two chests on 3F, the four chests on B2, and the final chest on B4 containing the Masamune. If every previous location was complete, the Masamune chest is your last chest in the game.

The dungeon also contains rematches with Lich on B1, Marilith on B2, Kraken on B3, and Tiamat on B4.

Legendary Treasure Hunter

Collect all 249 treasure chests.

If the achievement does not appear immediately after the Masamune chest, win one fight as an optional troubleshooting step. If it still has not unlocked, do not fight Chaos yet. Use the world map's per-location chest counters to find the incomplete area and finish it first.

Final Bestiary Check

Before leaving B4 for the final floor, check whether Iron Golem is recorded. Iron Golem is a rare encounter on B4 of the past Chaos Shrine and is easy to miss entirely.

If it is missing, remain on B4 and fight encounters until it appears. As with Warmech, do not rely on a fixed number of battles, and do not let your party flee when it appears.

Your final Bestiary entries in this dungeon also include the four Fiend rematches and Chaos. If everything else is complete, defeating Chaos will finish the 128-entry Bestiary.

Field Research- Professional

Complete 100% of the 128-entry Bestiary.

The achievement unlocks when the final missing Bestiary entry has been recorded. Chaos is the final entry and is recorded when you defeat him. If the achievement has not appeared once you have saved your clear data and returned to the title, loading the clear data and winning one battle is an optional troubleshooting step.

Resolve every other missing entry before fighting Chaos. For late cleanup, check these first:

  • Ghost in Sunken Shrine.
  • Soldier in Flying Fortress.
  • Warmech on the Flying Fortress 5F bridge.
  • Iron Golem on B4 of the past Chaos Shrine.
  • Any ordinary enemy still shown as unknown by the Bestiary's location map.

Chaos

Descend to B5. Before the final fight, confirm 249 of 249 chests, 127 of 128 Bestiary entries (everything except Chaos), level 50 on all four party members, and at least 500 monsters defeated. You can make a Quicksave here as a temporary retry point, but it is not an independent save slot; your permanent backup is the overworld save made before entering the Chaos Shrine.

Use your strongest equipment, including Excalibur and the Masamune. Buffing your main physical attacker with Haste and offensive support is an efficient way to shorten the fight.

Prophecy Foretold

This unlocks when Chaos is defeated and peace is restored. After the credits, save the offered clear data and return to the title screen; if the achievement did not appear during the ending, check again at this point.

If any achievement remains after the credits, load the clear data, which returns you outside the final dungeon with your party intact, and finish it from there. Your overworld backup save is the fallback if anything goes wrong. Use the world map chest counters for treasure, the Bestiary habitat display for enemies, revisit any overlooked map location, or continue fighting for level 50 and the cumulative monster-kill thresholds until the final achievement unlocks.
