▶Before You Start
Jetpac Refuelled is Rare's Xbox Live Arcade remake of the 1983 ZX Spectrum classic. This guide covers its Xbox 360 achievement list, which is also earned on Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles through backward compatibility. The copy of Jetpac Refuelled bundled with Rare Replay is this same Xbox 360 game. It installs separately, shares the same saves, and earns these same 12 achievements. Rare Replay's rewind feature only applies to the original 1983 Jetpac inside the collection. Jetpac Refuelled, including its Retro mode, has no rewind or save states in any version.
- Getting the game: The Xbox 360 Marketplace closed in July 2024. Buy Jetpac Refuelled on the current Xbox Store for Xbox One or Xbox Series, or play the copy included with Rare Replay. As of October 2026, Jetpac Refuelled is included with Game Pass Essential, Premium and Ultimate, but Game Pass catalogs change, so check your plan.
- Achievements: 12 achievements worth 200 Gamerscore. Infection is worth 0G; the other eleven carry all 200 points. There is no DLC.
- Modes: Refuelled (the 128-level remake) and Retro (the original 16-level Jetpac), both available from the single-player menu, plus a competitive two-player multiplayer mode.
- Online: Two achievements need Xbox Live and a second person. Half Mill Man needs an online multiplayer match, and Infection needs an online match with someone who already has Infection. Online multiplayer on Xbox requires an active Game Pass tier that includes online console multiplayer (Essential or higher). Line up a partner early so these don't hold up your completion.
- Missables: None. Every single-player achievement can be attempted again at any time, and level select keeps the checkpoints you've unlocked.
- Difficulty settings: None that affect achievements.
- Playthroughs: One full clear of Refuelled's 128 levels (across as many sessions as you like), one no-death run from level 1 to level 10, one score-farming game started at level 25, and one complete Retro run in a single game.
▶How Refuelled Is Structured
Refuelled's 128 levels are grouped into 32 sets of four. The first level of each set (1, 5, 9, 13 and so on, up to 125) has you assemble a new rocket from its parts. On every level you then drop six fuel cells into the rocket and board it to launch. Fuel only drops straight down, so you need a clear line with no platform between you and the rocket.
- Checkpoints and level select: The game saves only at the start of each set, every four levels, and has no manual save. Finishing the last level of a set unlocks the next set's first level as a start point. Level select lets you start a fresh game from a checkpoint you have unlocked. If you lose all your lives partway through a set, that set's progress is lost and you restart from its first level.
- Score resets on level select: Starting from level select always begins at a score of 0, and your score freezes when you lose your last life. Every score achievement must be earned within one game.
- Lives: Extra lives are awarded for score. Because every level select start resets your score, a fresh start from a checkpoint is a good way to pick up a few early lives.
- Timer: The bar at the top of the screen is a level timer. When it empties you lose a life. It keeps running when you die, so dying doesn't buy you more time.
- Shields: While you carry a rocket part or a fuel cell, you can take one hit without losing a life. Refuelled also gives you a short period of invincibility after each death, and newly spawning enemies are harmless for about a second and a half.
- Pickups: Bonus items come in three kinds: weapon upgrades (a glowing white cell with a red border), EMPs that wipe every enemy on screen, and points items. Only one bonus item can exist at a time, so grab every item, including points, or the slot stays blocked and no new weapon upgrade or EMP can appear. Your EMP stock is limited, so save them for the levels that need them.
- Weapons: The laser has four power tiers, and each tier cycles through three patterns: a straight beam, a straight beam with an upward shot, and a spread shot (often called the shotgun or tri-shot). Each weapon pickup moves you one step along that ladder, so 11 pickups take a fresh laser to full power. Any death, including one caused by the timer, returns your laser to the very beginning. Finishing a level keeps your tier but drops you back to that tier's straight beam, so grabbing a pickup just before you leave a level carries extra power into the next one. The spread shot is the most useful pattern for clearing enemies and farming score.
▶Critical Route Warnings
- Don't use level select to skip ahead for Survival. It requires a fresh game started at level 1 with no deaths before level 10.
- Don't chase score during a normal run. The level 25 farm is the recommended way to reach 1,000,000.
- Retro Cyclist has no save and no rewind. All 16 levels must be cleared in one game.
▶Refuelled: Levels 1-12
▶Level 1 to Level 4
Start a single-player Refuelled game at level 1. Assemble the rocket, fuel it, and take off.
▶Alpha Launch
This unlocks when you launch from level 1 in single-player Refuelled.
▶Squid Port Pacifist
Required: complete level 3 in single-player Refuelled without firing your laser or using an EMP. Losing lives is allowed.
Play levels 1 and 2 normally, then take your finger off the fire button for the whole of level 3. Level 3 is full of erratically swimming squid enemies. Dodge them as you fly around and drop fuel into the rocket. If you get hit, use your invincibility after respawning to grab and deliver fuel safely. The achievement unlocks when you launch from level 3 without having shot or used an EMP on that level.
▶Power Hungry
Required: upgrade your laser to full capacity in single-player Refuelled.
Full capacity is the spread shot on the fourth power tier, which takes 11 weapon pickups from a fresh laser without dying in between. The achievement pops the moment you collect the final pickup. If it hasn't popped after 11, keep collecting until it does. The early levels are the safest place to do this:
- Collect points items as soon as they appear, so the bonus slot keeps cycling and offers you more weapon upgrades.
- Don't die while you build up your laser. Any death, including running out of time, sends it all the way back to the starting beam.
- Try to get as many pickups as you can within one level. Your tier should carry into the next level, and a pickup grabbed just before you launch carries extra progress with it, but don't rely on the carry alone.
- If you lose your upgrades, start again from the level 1 or level 5 checkpoint with a fresh, uncluttered run.
Earning this first makes Survival much easier, because a fully powered laser keeps the screen clear.
▶No-Death Run to Level 10
Once Power Hungry has unlocked and you're comfortable with the first few levels, start a brand new game from level 1 for Survival.
▶Survival
Required: start a single-player Refuelled game at level 1 and reach level 10 without losing a single life.
The achievement pops as soon as level 10 begins, so dying on level 10 afterwards doesn't matter. If it doesn't pop when level 10 starts, the run didn't meet the condition, so start again from level 1 and don't lose a life. Any lost life before level 10 ends the attempt, so quit and restart from level 1 straight away rather than playing on.
- Power your laser up again early in the run and grab every weapon upgrade you see. If a fresh run is going cleanly, Power Hungry can unlock during this attempt too, since both reward staying alive.
- Level 8 is the hardest of the first ten. Its fast statue-like enemies take several hits, and a straight beam works best against them. Save your EMPs for it, but use one without hesitation anywhere else if enemies close in. An EMP is always better than losing the run.
- Carrying a rocket part or fuel cell lets you absorb one hit without losing a life, so take risks while carrying and play carefully when empty-handed.
- Don't detour for points. Extra lives don't help here, because any death ends the attempt anyway.
- Watch the timer and finish levels promptly, since enemies build up the longer you take. No source confirms whether a life lost to the timer counts as dying, so treat it as a failed run and never let the bar empty.
▶Levels 5 to 12
Continue through the second and third sets in a normal run. Nothing in this stretch has its own achievement beyond Survival, so focus on learning enemy behaviour. Level 6 introduces grey robots drifting in every direction, and level 9 brings puffballs that hold still before attacking. On level 11, flying off one side of the screen wraps you to the other, and chasing enemies turn around and take the long way, which buys you time. Level 12 has small ground-bound jumping robots that are easiest to shoot from above.
▶Refuelled: Levels 13-44
▶Level 13: Robo Rocket
Level 13 opens the fourth set and gives you a new rocket to build. It starts with a swarm of floating robots, so an EMP is useful here.
▶Robo Rocket
Required: build the Robo Rocket in single-player Refuelled. This is the rocket assembled at the start of level 13.
It unlocks as soon as you drop the final part onto the level 13 rocket base. You don't need to fuel the rocket or finish the level.
▶Levels 14 to 24
Push on through the following sets. From around level 18 the spread shot is the best default weapon. Two levels in this stretch are reported as sharp difficulty spikes:
- Level 20 is a reverse-spawn level. Dozens of floating robots arrive at once, and the spawn rate drops with every fuel cell you deliver. Save EMPs for it, use one at the start, then rush the fuel in.
- Level 23 is another reverse-spawn level, with jumping robots filling the air. Level 22 before it is a breather, and level 24 is also reverse-spawn but easier because you can drop fuel from above.
Completing level 24 unlocks the level 25 checkpoint used for both score achievements. Once level 25 appears in level select, you can do the score farm straight away or carry on to level 44 first. Either order works.
▶Level 25 Score Farm
Level 25 is the best score-farming level in the game. Its chasing puffs respawn as soon as you destroy them, and because you start this game from level select, your score begins at 0 and both score achievements can be earned in one session.
- Start a new single-player Refuelled game from level 25 in level select.
- Collect weapon upgrades until you have the spread shot. From a fresh laser, that takes two pickups.
- Hold down fire and fly back and forth along the top half of the screen. The respawning puffs keep entering your line of fire, and the screen wrap helps you sweep.
- Don't board the rocket until you've reached your score target. The level ends as soon as you board a fully fuelled rocket, and that ends the farm. Leaving one fuel cell undelivered is a safe way to avoid finishing by accident, and carrying it gives you a one-hit shield.
- When the timer empties you lose a life. Grab weapon upgrades again and keep farming. Stragglers and flying too low cost lives too.
Both achievements unlock the moment your in-game score reaches the target. You don't have to finish the level. Your score freezes once your last life is gone, so if your lives run out before 1,000,000, start the level again from level select.
▶Score More
Required: reach 250,000 points in a single game of single-player Refuelled. It unlocks partway through the level 25 farm.
▶Millionaire Man
Required: reach 1,000,000 points in a single game of single-player Refuelled. Keep farming level 25 after Score More until it unlocks.
▶Levels 26 to 44
Return to level select and continue your main run from your furthest checkpoint. When you play level 25 as part of a normal run, don't shoot the chasing puffs. Each kill spawns a replacement, so you can't thin them out. Just collect fuel and upgrades.
- Level 26 is a mild reverse-spawn level and a good place to stock EMPs.
- Level 29 reportedly has near-invisible chasing puffs. If you start a run here, focus on surviving, then rebuild lives and EMPs on levels 30 and 31, which are breathers.
- Level 32 behaves like a reverse-spawn level. It starts crowded with chasing orbs, and it doesn't calm down until you've delivered two fuel cells. Use EMPs.
- Levels 33 to 42 are the gentlest stretch of the game. Use them to bank EMPs and lives. Level 43 adds chasing puffs and orbs but is manageable with the EMPs you saved.
- Level 44 is mostly jumping robots and only a little tricky.
▶Been through your Milky Way
Required: play level 44 in single-player Refuelled.
The achievement is earned by reaching level 44, which is the last level of the set that starts at the level 41 checkpoint. Start from 41 in level select, clear 41 to 43, and it should pop as level 44 begins. If it hasn't unlocked by then, keep playing and finish the level before quitting.
▶Refuelled: Levels 45-128
▶How to Approach Levels 45-128
From here, the job is to clear every remaining set until you beat level 128. There's no shortcut, and you don't need to do it in one sitting. Each checkpoint is a fresh start, so treat every four-level set as its own attempt. Plan your EMP use within the set, because restarting from a checkpoint doesn't keep your EMP stock or weapon power. This is the longest part of the completion.
- When you're short on lives early in a set, restarting from that set's checkpoint is often faster than limping on. Your score resets to 0, which makes extra lives from score easier to come by again.
- Protect your spread shot. On the harder sets, try to leave each level with a full tier of weapon power by grabbing an upgrade just before you launch.
- On reverse-spawn levels, the enemy horde is largest at the start and shrinks as you add fuel. Use an EMP early, then rush the first few fuel cells in rather than fighting for position.
- On levels with near-invisible chasers, keep moving and watch for movement.
- A few checkpoint starts, such as 77 and 113, are reported to place a weapon upgrade or EMP near the rocket.
▶Levels 45 to 64
This is one of the toughest stretches. The per-level notes below are reported hazards, so expect some variation.
- Levels 45 to 48 open with a hard set. Level 45 is tough, and levels 47 and 48 flood quickly. Keep EMPs ready.
- Level 49 is a good place to farm EMPs and lives. Level 52 is reverse-spawn, so get about three fuel cells in fast.
- Levels 53 to 56: level 53 stays crowded and needs upgrades, 54 is a breather, 55 is reverse-spawn with jumping robots (EMP immediately, then fuel), and 56 is easy.
- Levels 57 to 60: level 57 brings back the chasing puffs from level 25, so don't shoot them. Level 58 is one of the hardest levels in the game, opening with a horde of floating robots that later thins out.
- Levels 61 to 64: level 61 has near-invisible chasing puffs, and more spawn the longer you stay. Keep to the ground and let items fall to you. Level 64 is reverse-spawn with chasing orbs, so spend EMPs and get fuel in quickly. That's the halfway point.
▶Levels 65 to 96
- Levels 65 to 80 are moderate. Level 73 is the opposite of reverse-spawn, with more chasers appearing as you add fuel, so work quickly. Level 76 has jumping robots and chasing orbs, so stay on the floor. If you restart at 77, a weapon upgrade sits near the rocket.
- Levels 81 to 88: level 81 is a swarm of tough statue-like enemies (use an EMP or two), level 84 is reverse-spawn with floating robots (EMP at once, then fuel), level 87 is reverse-spawn with jumping robots, and level 88 is constantly flooded with squids.
- Levels 89 to 92 are the hardest set so far. On 89, chasing puffs spawn on your tail alongside orbs and squids, so use EMPs freely and keep moving while you shoot. Level 90 opens with a horde (EMP, then fuel), and level 92 is hard without an upgraded weapon.
- Levels 93 to 96: level 93 reportedly has near-invisible chasing puffs. Restart from 93 if your lives are low, since it's survivable with retries. Level 96 starts with a mass of chasing orbs, and an EMP reduces how many can be on screen.
▶Levels 97 to 124
- Levels 97 to 100 are an easy stretch. Stock EMPs and power up your laser. Levels 101 to 108 are mostly mild, although 104 can drain your lives and EMPs, so use one EMP per fuel cell if you're running low.
- Levels 109 to 112 fill up fast with statues, jumping robots and squids. Stay low and let items fall to you, and use EMPs to finish.
- Levels 113 to 116 are the hardest set in the game. Restarting at 113 places an EMP near the rocket. Leave 113 and 114 with a full weapon tier, and save EMPs for the end of 115, which mixes every enemy type. On 116, let the floating robots finish spawning, use an EMP, then carry the first fuel cell as a shield while you reach a spread shot upgrade. It calms down after one or two cells.
- Levels 117 to 120: level 117 is constantly busy, so stay at the bottom and only fly up for items. Level 118 is surprisingly easy. Level 119 starts with a horde of jumping robots (EMP, then two fuel cells quickly), and on 120, use an EMP against the squids above you and drop fuel from high above the rocket.
- Levels 121 to 124: on 122, fly away from the rocket, let every enemy spawn, use one EMP, and then fuel in quickly. Level 123 starts heavy, so use an EMP, then the spread shot. Level 124 is calm.
▶Final Set: Levels 125 to 128
Arrive at 125 with EMPs in hand if you can. Level 125 reportedly has near-invisible chasing puffs that take over the screen quickly. Prioritise finishing over saving EMPs, and use one if you're holding two or more. Levels 126 and 127 are unusually manageable, but the spread shot matters most on 127, so collect another EMP there if you can. Level 128 is never heavily populated, but its chasing orbs make it feel crowded. Spend your remaining EMPs freely and take off.
▶You can stop now!
Required: complete all 128 levels of single-player Refuelled. Clear level 128 and keep playing through the take-off and any screens that follow until the achievement pops.
▶Retro
▶The Original 16 Levels
Retro is the original 1983 Jetpac, playable from the single-player menu. Its 16 levels repeat eight enemy types twice, so each enemy pattern you learn is used again eight levels later. Retro has no rewind and no save in any version of Jetpac Refuelled, including the copy in Rare Replay, so the whole run has to be done in one game.
Retro is much less forgiving than Refuelled:
- One hit kills you, even while carrying fuel.
- There's no invincibility after death, so a careless respawn can cost two lives in a row.
- There are no weapon upgrades or EMPs. Bonus items only give points.
- There's no timer, so take as long as you need on each level.
- Enemies only enter from the sides of the screen.
You earn an extra life at the start of levels 5, 9 and 13, plus extra lives from score. Pick up points items to reach those score lives early. The lives counter can show one more life than you really have while flying in to a new level. This is a display glitch, so trust the counter only once the level has started.
The hardest enemy types are the UFOs on levels 5 and 13 and the Smorgs on levels 8 and 16. A reliable approach is to stand on the top-right platform and shoot across the screen, so enemies drift into your line of fire below you. UFOs can't wrap around the screen edge, so you can fly around them to escape.
▶Retro Cyclist
Required: complete all 16 levels in Retro in one game. After you clear level 16, the game loops back to level 1, and the achievement unlocks at that point.
▶Xbox Live Multiplayer
▶Setting Up a Match
Both remaining achievements need an online Player Match with a second person. You can earn both in the same 20-minute session. Ranked Match and offline split-screen are untested for these achievements, so use Player Match.
As of August 2026, players were still arranging online sessions and passing Infection on, though no recent Half Mill Man unlock has been confirmed. The TrueAchievements Jetpac Refuelled forum has a standing thread for finding Infection holders. Before you schedule a session, check that both players have an active Game Pass tier with online multiplayer and that the game signs in to Xbox Live. If it shows a "can't connect" error, check Xbox Status before troubleshooting further.
- Set privacy on both profiles first. Each player's game and app history must be visible to Everyone, and the player receiving Infection must also allow themselves to see other players' profiles and game history (set to Everyone). If either setting is hidden, the game can't see the other player's Infection. Child accounts need a parent to change these settings.
- The host selects Multiplayer, then Player Match, then Create Match. Set Public Slots to 1 (or 0 for invite-only) and the Duration to 20 minutes, which is the maximum, then start the match.
- Invite your partner through the Xbox Guide. On Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles, press View and Menu together to open the Guide in this backward compatible game.
- Both players press A to set ready, and the match begins.
▶Infection
Required: play an online match with another player who already has Infection.
The achievement unlocks once the match starts with an infected player in it and you've both been in the game for a few seconds. You don't need to score or win. If it doesn't unlock, double-check both players' privacy settings and try again. Temporary Xbox network issues can make game history appear private. Third-party trackers may not show this 0G achievement, so confirm it in your Xbox achievement list. Once you have it, you can pass it on to others.
▶Half Mill Man
Required: score 500,000 points yourself in a single online multiplayer Refuelled match. Each player is checked on their own score; combined scores don't count. It pops the moment your score reaches 500,000, so you don't need to win or finish the match.
Multiplayer has unlimited lives, and the match lasts until the timer ends. Launches carry a large point bonus, so rockets are where the points are:
- Build the rocket from the parts on the map first, then bring all six fuel cells and launch. Repeat as many times as you can.
- Ignore enemies and powerups unless they're in your way. Shooting for kills isn't an efficient source of points.
- Your partner should stay idle and not compete for fuel. Sources conflict on whether the match survives a partner leaving, so they should stay connected for the full match.
Expect to need roughly 10 minutes of focused play. If both players need Half Mill Man, one scores first while the other stays idle, then you swap roles for the rest of the 20 minutes, or play a second match.
It isn't known whether local split-screen multiplayer counts, and the achievement specifies Xbox Live, so play this online.
