Before You Start

Kabuto Park has 21 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore on one shared list for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows (Smart Delivery and Play Anywhere). There are no DLC or title-update achievements, no online or co-op requirements, and nothing is missable. One playthrough is enough.

  • Playthroughs: One. After the final battle the game keeps going: you can hunt bugs freely and replay any of the 31 tournament battles, with every opponent's team set to level 20.
  • Missables: None. Every achievement can still be earned after the credits. The only real timing advice is to finish your bug collection and shiny hunting late in the month, before the final battle, because that is when the shiny odds are boosted. This is an optimization, not a deadline: bug hunting, shinies included, continues after the credits.
  • Difficulty settings: No achievement is tied to difficulty. The catching minigame has three difficulty levels and an option to turn off moving or shrinking segments, so lower them freely if a catch is giving you trouble.
  • Hardest achievements: Held for the music, Totally Buffed, and Challenger need deliberate setup. They are easiest in post-game replays with a level 20 team, and Held for the music and Totally Buffed can be earned in the same fight.
  • Biggest time sink: Shiny Huntress (three shiny catches) is luck-based, though the game has built-in protection that softens bad luck. Do it late in the month with your upgrades maxed.
  • Bug collection: There are 43 normal bug species spread over four areas. Sixteen of them live in two areas, and each area's Expert achievement needs them caught in that area. The Collectibles section at the end lists every area's full roster.

How the Summer Works

The game runs through August. Each tournament battle moves the calendar forward one day, for 31 battles in total, fought in order. Hunting bugs does not use up time, so you can hunt as much as you like on any day before taking the next battle.

Boss battles fall on #11, #21, and #29, and each awards a badge. The final battle, #31, is against Midori. Losing a battle has no penalty, so retry as often as you need.

Sunny Farm is open from the start. The other three areas open by buying rain boot upgrades in the shop:

  • Level 2 boots (20 coins): available after battle #1. Opens Calm Lake.
  • Level 3 boots (40 coins): available after the first boss, Ivy, at battle #11. Opens Pine Forest.
  • Level 4 boots (60 coins): available after the second boss, Satoshi, at battle #21. Opens Crawler Swamp.

Buy each pair as soon as it becomes available. If you are ever short on coins, the third badge from battle #29 is a late safety checkpoint: every area should be open by then.

Upgrades and Collection Rules

Sell duplicate bugs for candy, which levels up your team. Keep at least one of every species until its area achievements and Entomologist have unlocked. It is not confirmed that selling your only copy is safe, and keeping one costs nothing. Spend battle winnings in the shop on:

  • Net: bigger catch zones.
  • Bugpedia: improves your odds of finding rarer bugs and shinies. It does not raise your bugs' level cap. Higher bug levels unlock through tournament progress.
  • Magnifier: more capture spots per trip, and later the ability to search the same spot again.
  • Honey: slows the catch slider.
  • Boots: open new areas.

Prioritize boots whenever a new pair is available, then Bugpedia and magnifier. Both of those feed directly into shiny hunting.

New bugs are added partway through the month. Six species appear from around day 6 and six more from around day 15, so no area is truly complete until after day 15. The area selection screen shows how many bugs you have found in each area. The total grows as new bugs arrive, so a full count early in the month does not mean the area is done.

Each area Expert achievement counts only the bugs you caught in that area. A bug that lives in two areas can already show as found in the second area after your first catch elsewhere. You still need to catch it in the second area for that area's achievement.

Status Notes

  • Shiny Huntress (PATCHED / NO LONGER A CURRENT ISSUE, June 2026): A launch bug was patched in June 2026, and the achievement unlocks normally across sessions for players since. An isolated later report exists. If it does not unlock on your third shiny, update the game and reload your save. Catching all three shinies in one session is an optional extra precaution, not a requirement.
  • Area Expert achievements (HISTORICALLY REPORTED BUG, 2025 builds): Early builds sometimes failed to award an area achievement after everything was caught. A patch addressed this. If one still does not pop, go back to that area and play out a full capture trip, using every magnifier search without quitting early. This usually triggers it, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
  • Corrupted saves (HISTORICALLY REPORTED BUG, June 2026): Some Xbox and Game Pass PC saves have loaded with no money or locked areas. Let saves finish before quitting and avoid closing the game mid-trip. If a save does load damaged, hunting again will not fix the locked progress. Check whether a backup or cloud save can be restored, or contact the publisher's support, before you reset your save.

Early August

Days 1-5: First Battles on Sunny Farm

Collectibles 6 collectibles
  • Hoverfly — Common, from day 1. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Rainbow Beetle — Common, from day 1. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Rhino Beetle — Common, from day 1.

  • Rosemary Beetle — Common, from day 1.

  • Earth-Borer Beetle — Uncommon, from day 1. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Golden Hart — Rare, from day 1.

Catch everything you can on Sunny Farm, sell duplicates for candy, and level a core team. From the start the Farm has six species: Hoverfly, Rainbow Beetle, Rhino Beetle, Rosemary Beetle, Earth-Borer Beetle, and the rare Golden Hart. The opening opponents are weak, which is the best chance for a very fast win.

Expeditive

Win a battle in under 10 seconds. This usually happens on its own in the early battles when your bugs out-level the opponent. Play your strongest knockback cards straight away to push the enemy out before the clock gets going. If you somehow miss it, replay an early-ladder opponent after the credits. Replay opponents all field level 20 teams, so bring a level 20 team of your own and open with your strongest knockback cards.

Hard Catch

Catch any rare bug. Rare bugs show a gold star on their capture spot, and their catch zones are smaller or faster. The Golden Hart is a rare that lives on Sunny Farm from the very start, so this usually comes within your first few trips. Use honey if the slider is too quick.

This Game Has Too Many Bugs

Catch 100 bugs. This is a running catch total and will pop during normal play, well before the end of the month. Keep catching and selling duplicates for candy and it takes care of itself.

After Battle #1: Calm Lake Opens

Collectibles 9 collectibles
  • Honeybee — Common, available when the Lake opens.

  • Cerulean Chafer — Common, available when the Lake opens.

  • Ox Beetle — Common, available when the Lake opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Ruddy Darter — Common, available when the Lake opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Blue-banded Bee — Uncommon, available when the Lake opens. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Greater Stag — Uncommon, available when the Lake opens.

  • Jewel Beetle — Uncommon, available when the Lake opens.

  • Blue Emperor — Uncommon, available when the Lake opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Goliath Beetle — Rare, available when the Lake opens.

After battle #1, buy the level 2 boots for 20 coins as soon as you can afford them. Calm Lake starts with nine bugs: Honeybee, Cerulean Chafer, Ox Beetle, Ruddy Darter, Blue-banded Bee, Greater Stag, Jewel Beetle, Blue Emperor, and the rare Goliath Beetle. Ox Beetle, Ruddy Darter, Blue-banded Bee, and Blue Emperor also live in other areas, so catch them here regardless.

Day 6: The Developer and the First New Bugs

Collectibles 8 collectibles
  • Ladybug — Common, from around day 6. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Hummingbird Moth — Common, from around day 6. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Crab Stag — Uncommon, from around day 6.

  • Praying Mantis — Uncommon, from around day 6.

  • Monarch Butterfly — Rare, from around day 6.

  • Ladybug — Common, from around day 6. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Hummingbird Moth — Common, from around day 6. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Orchid Mantis — Rare, from around day 6.

From around day 6, new bugs appear. On Sunny Farm these are the Ladybug, Hummingbird Moth, Crab Stag, Praying Mantis, and the rare Monarch Butterfly. Calm Lake gains the Ladybug, Hummingbird Moth, and the rare Orchid Mantis. Recheck both areas after the day 6 battle, and catch the Ladybug and Hummingbird Moth in each area separately.

Who Was That?

Beat Dorian, the in-game developer character, in tournament battle #6. This is part of the normal ladder and unlocks on the win.

Days 7-11: Building Your Team

Keep levelling a strong team for the first boss. This is also the cheapest time for My Fav, because levelling three copies of one common bug is quick while levels are low.

My Fav

Win any battle with three of the same bug on your team. Shiny versions count as the same species. The easiest early option is three Rhino Beetles, a Sunny Farm common, levelled to around 10 for the battles near day 10. Any species works as long as all three slots match. If your trio struggles, do it after the credits instead with three level 20 copies of one strong bug.

You can pet the bug

The terrarium unlocks after battle #7. Place a bug in it and interact with that bug 10 times. It unlocks on the tenth interaction.

My first badge

Win the first boss battle, Ivy, at tournament battle #11. This unlocks the level 3 boots (40 coins) that open Pine Forest. Buy them as soon as you can.

Mid August

After the First Boss: Pine Forest Opens

Collectibles 12 collectibles
  • Giraffe Weevil — Common, available when the Forest opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Leaf Beetle — Common, available when the Forest opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Longicorn — Common, available when the Forest opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Woolly Chafer — Common, available when the Forest opens.

  • Roly Poly — Common, available when the Forest opens.

  • Blue-banded Bee — Uncommon, available when the Forest opens. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Earth-Borer Beetle — Uncommon, available when the Forest opens. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Hercules Beetle — Uncommon, available when the Forest opens. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Luna Moth — Uncommon, available when the Forest opens.

  • Oak Treehopper — Uncommon, available when the Forest opens.

  • Giant Stag — Rare, available when the Forest opens.

  • Rosy Maple Moth — Rare, available when the Forest opens.

Start catching in Pine Forest once the level 3 boots are bought. Spread the rest of your money between Bugpedia and magnifier upgrades, which make the late-month shiny hunt much easier.

Pine Forest has Giraffe Weevil, Leaf Beetle, Longicorn, Woolly Chafer, Roly Poly, Blue-banded Bee, Earth-Borer Beetle, Hercules Beetle, Luna Moth, Oak Treehopper, and the rares Giant Stag and Rosy Maple Moth. Earth-Borer Beetle and Blue-banded Bee must be caught here as well as in their other areas.

Day 15: The Second Wave of Bugs

Collectibles 8 collectibles
  • Bumblebee — Common, from around day 15. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Lesser Stag — Common, from around day 15. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Blue Carpenter Bee — Uncommon, from around day 15. Shared with Crawler Swamp.

  • Weevil — Uncommon, from around day 15. Not the Giraffe Weevil or Glitter Weevil.

  • Bumblebee — Common, from around day 15. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Sunburst Beetle — Common, from around day 15. Called the Sunburst Diving Beetle in the patch notes; a different bug from the Diving Beetle.

  • Diving Beetle — Uncommon, from around day 15.

  • Lesser Stag — Common, from around day 15. Shared with Sunny Farm.

Another six species appear from around day 15:

  • Sunny Farm: Bumblebee, Lesser Stag, Blue Carpenter Bee, and Weevil.
  • Calm Lake: Bumblebee, Sunburst Beetle, and Diving Beetle.
  • Pine Forest: Lesser Stag.
  • Crawler Swamp: Blue Carpenter Bee, to pick up when the Swamp opens.

The Sunburst Beetle and the Diving Beetle are two different Lake bugs, and you need both. Likewise the Farm's Weevil is a different bug from the Giraffe Weevil and the Glitter Weevil. Catch whichever new bugs you can reach now. Anything left over is covered in the day 30 cleanup.

Wham!

Land a really strong knockback. The game does not show a threshold, but these setups reliably work:

  1. Overcharged Kick: This card belongs to the Giant Stag and Goliath Beetle and hits with all your banked energy. Save up roughly 20 or more energy and play it when the opponent is already near the edge of the ring.
  2. Bigger Kicks: Stack the Monarch Butterfly's knockback boost before a strong kick.

This often comes naturally once you own a Giant Stag or Goliath Beetle. If not, set it up on purpose in the next easy battle.

Another one!

Win the second boss battle, Satoshi, at tournament battle #21. This unlocks the level 4 boots (60 coins) that open Crawler Swamp.

After the Second Boss: Crawler Swamp Opens

Collectibles 16 collectibles
  • Hoverfly — Common. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Rainbow Beetle — Common. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Ruddy Darter — Common. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Leaf Beetle — Common. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Imperial Tortoise — Common.

  • Ox Beetle — Common. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Giraffe Weevil — Common. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Longicorn — Common. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Japanese Rhino — Common.

  • Blue Emperor — Uncommon. Shared with Calm Lake.

  • Hercules Beetle — Uncommon. Shared with Pine Forest.

  • Emperor Moth — Uncommon.

  • Umbrella Rhino — Uncommon.

  • Blue Carpenter Bee — Uncommon, from around day 15. Shared with Sunny Farm.

  • Atlas Beetle — Rare.

  • Spiny Flower Mantis — Rare.

Buy the level 4 boots and head into the Swamp. Every Swamp bug is available at this point, including the day 15 Blue Carpenter Bee. Crawler Swamp has the largest roster, 16 bugs: Hoverfly, Rainbow Beetle, Ruddy Darter, Leaf Beetle, Imperial Tortoise, Ox Beetle, Giraffe Weevil, Longicorn, Japanese Rhino, Blue Emperor, Hercules Beetle, Emperor Moth, Umbrella Rhino, Blue Carpenter Bee, and the rares Atlas Beetle and Spiny Flower Mantis. Only six of these live nowhere else, so expect several to show as found already. Catch every one of them in the Swamp anyway.

Late August

Days 22-29: The Shiny Window Opens

From around August 25, shiny bugs become noticeably more common, and searching the same spot again with a max-level magnifier helps a little. Shiny hunting is not pure luck: the game guarantees an early first shiny within your first several dozen encounters, and your odds improve the longer you go without one. Keep buying Bugpedia and magnifier upgrades now if you have not maxed them.

Sparkly Bug

Catch any shiny bug. It will often come naturally during this window. Shinies are visibly sparkly in the capture spot, so take extra care with that catch and use honey if needed.

Gold medal

Win the third boss battle, a rematch against Ivy at tournament battle #29. If you have not bought every boots upgrade yet because of coins, do it now so every area is open.

Day 30: Full Collection and Shiny Hunt

Stop here, before taking battle #31. Every area is open, every mid-month bug has appeared, and the shiny boost is active. Finishing here is an optimization, not a deadline: hunting continues after the credits, but the late-month shiny boost is only confirmed before them. Time does not pass while you hunt, so stay on day 30 as long as you need.

Then work through each area in turn using the Collectibles section. For each Expert achievement, catch every bug on that area's list in that area itself. These 16 species live in two areas and must be caught in both:

  • Blue Carpenter Bee (Farm, Swamp)
  • Blue Emperor (Lake, Swamp)
  • Blue-banded Bee (Lake, Forest)
  • Bumblebee (Farm, Lake)
  • Earth-Borer Beetle (Farm, Forest)
  • Giraffe Weevil (Forest, Swamp)
  • Hercules Beetle (Forest, Swamp)
  • Hoverfly (Farm, Swamp)
  • Hummingbird Moth (Farm, Lake)
  • Ladybug (Farm, Lake)
  • Leaf Beetle (Forest, Swamp)
  • Lesser Stag (Farm, Forest)
  • Longicorn (Forest, Swamp)
  • Ox Beetle (Lake, Swamp)
  • Rainbow Beetle (Farm, Swamp)
  • Ruddy Darter (Lake, Swamp)

Farm Expert

Catch all 15 Sunny Farm bugs in Sunny Farm: 8 common, 5 uncommon, and 2 rare (Golden Hart and Monarch Butterfly). The day 6 and day 15 additions mean it can only complete after day 15. Its shared bugs are the Hoverfly, Rainbow Beetle, Earth-Borer Beetle, Ladybug, Hummingbird Moth, Bumblebee, Lesser Stag, and Blue Carpenter Bee.

Lake Expert

Catch all 15 Calm Lake bugs in Calm Lake: 8 common, 5 uncommon, and 2 rare (Goliath Beetle and Orchid Mantis). The Sunburst Beetle (listed as the Sunburst Diving Beetle in the patch notes) was added in a post-launch update. If your Lake shows only 14 bugs, update the game. Both the Sunburst Beetle and the separate Diving Beetle arrive around day 15.

Forest Expert

Catch all 13 Pine Forest bugs in Pine Forest: 6 common, 5 uncommon, and 2 rare (Giant Stag and Rosy Maple Moth). Its day 15 addition is the Lesser Stag. If the Forest still shows one bug missing after everything on its list is caught, spend a few more rounds hunting rares there.

Swamp Expert

Catch all 16 Crawler Swamp bugs in Crawler Swamp: 9 common, 5 uncommon, and 2 rare (Atlas Beetle and Spiny Flower Mantis). This is the last area to open, after battle #21, and its only day 15 addition is the Blue Carpenter Bee. Both rares are useful for the post-game battle achievements.

Entomologist

Catch every bug in Kabuto Park, meaning all 43 normal species. Completing all four Expert achievements covers every one. The Glitter Weevil, a legendary that only ever appears as a shiny and can turn up in any area, is not on the in-game bug lists and is not needed. If Entomologist has not popped after all four Expert achievements, recheck every area against its list in the Collectibles section, paying attention to the Lake's Sunburst Beetle and Diving Beetle. Then update the game, reload your save, and play out a full capture trip in an area.

Shiny Huntress

Catch three shiny bugs. Sparkly Bug counts as your first. With the Bugpedia and magnifier maxed, pick one area and repeatedly search its spots, using the magnifier's repeat search where you can. Expect this to take a while, although the game's built-in protection keeps a long dry streak from lasting forever. It unlocks on the third shiny catch. If it does not, make sure the game is fully updated and reload your save.

Day 31: The Final Battle

Summer Champion

Win the final battle, #31, against Midori, to take the Beetles Battles Summer Tournament. The credits roll, and you are returned to free play with every battle available to replay.

Post-Game Battle Cleanup

Replaying Battles

After the credits you can pick any of the 31 tournament opponents, and all of their teams are now level 20. Use candy from duplicate bugs to bring your team up to 20 as well. Strong picks include the Giant Stag, Atlas Beetle, Spiny Flower Mantis, Golden Hart, and Imperial Tortoise.

Held for the music

Win a battle that lasts more than two minutes. Choose an opponent your level 20 team can comfortably hold in place. Play defensive and energy cards and avoid big kicks until the timer passes 2:00, then push the opponent out. One setup that works is two Imperial Tortoises and an Oak Treehopper against the opponent from battle #1, stacking energy buffs. Do Totally Buffed in this same fight.

Totally Buffed

Have 10 effects active on your team during a battle. Buffs and debuffs on your side both count, and permanent STR/DEF boosts are the easiest to stack. The Spiny Flower Mantis's Aggressive Mimicry card copies the opponent's buffs onto your team, and Golden Hart's permanent boosts stack quickly.

It unlocks as soon as 10 effects are active at the same time. You do not need to win the battle or keep all 10 active until the end. Pairing it with Held for the music is still efficient, because the long stall gives you plenty of time to stack effects. That achievement is the reason to push on and win after two minutes.

Reliable fallback: take two level 20 Cerulean Chafers and a level 20 Atlas Beetle against Daisy, the opponent from battle #3. Stall with Energize and Cheap Kicks to keep stacking permanent boosts until 10 effects are active. Then keep stalling past two minutes and win to collect Held for the music in the same fight.

Challenger

Win a battle with fewer bugs on your team than your opponent has. Take only two level 20 bugs into a fight against a three-bug team. A Giant Stag and an Atlas Beetle against Ash, the opponent from battle #2, works well. If Ash gives you trouble, pick another early-ladder opponent whose team you can push out reliably.

Final Check

If anything is still missing, it can be done now. Shiny hunting and area catching continue indefinitely, and every battle achievement can be retried in replays. If an area Expert achievement is stuck, remember that a shared species showing as found in that area does not prove you caught it there. Go to that area, recatch every shared species on its list below, and then complete a full capture trip there without quitting early.
