Guide contents

Before You Start

Perfect Dark (the 2010 Xbox Live Arcade remaster) has 20 achievements worth 200 Gamerscore. There is no DLC and no title-update content. This guide covers the Xbox 360 list only, which is the one that also plays on Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles through backward compatibility.

  • Online: nothing requires Xbox Live play. Co-op, Counter-op and every Combat Simulator achievement can be done offline with extra controllers and simulants.
  • Missables: none. Every level and difficulty can be replayed from mission select, and the Special Assignments stay available once unlocked.
  • Unobtainable: none known as of 2026-10-04. All 20 achievements are still being earned, including Crowning Glory.
  • Playthroughs: three full campaigns at minimum (Agent, Special Agent and Perfect Agent), plus all four Special Assignments on every difficulty. The difficulty achievements do not stack, so a Perfect Agent clear will not award Agent or Special Agent.
  • Hardest parts: a full Perfect Agent campaign and Crowning Glory. Crowning Glory needs all 26 Leaderboard Crowns, including three full-campaign time targets and a Perfect Agent run with auto-aim off.
  • Extra controllers: you need a second controller for Co-op, Counter-op, three co-op crowns and the Ninja crown. For Prime Target, each extra controller (up to four) lets you finish on easier challenges.

Rules for the Whole Completion

  • Never enable cheats. While any cheat is active, mission stats aren't saved, crowns can't be earned, challenge wins don't count and achievements are disabled. Check the cheat menu is fully off before every session.
  • Use a real second profile for Co-op and Counter-op. Sign in a second, real Xbox profile on the second controller (a free profile works). On backward-compatible consoles, the Guest option has been reported to fail unless the main account has an active online subscription. Keep your achievement profile as player one.
  • Stay signed in to Xbox Live while chasing crowns. Not confirmed as required, but crowns are shown on the online leaderboards. It costs nothing.
  • Check crowns yourself. Crown unlocks don't always show a popup. Pause and go to Help & Options, then Awards, after every attempt.
  • Delayed unlocks: HISTORICALLY REPORTED BUG (2010 launch period and 2023 backward-compatibility reports). Some difficulty achievements were slow to appear or failed to pop on the first clear. If one is missing after the trigger, quit to the dashboard, restart the game and let it finish saving before replaying anything.

Route Overview

  1. Play the campaign on Agent in story order. Grab every weapon, break every camera, earn the Agent crowns, and start Double 64.
  2. Do a two-controller session for Co-op, Counter-op and the Agent co-op crowns.
  3. Play the campaign on Special Agent. Do Defection with fists only for Paci-Fist and earn the Special Agent crowns.
  4. Play the campaign on Perfect Agent with auto-aim off for the whole run, then the Special Assignments on Perfect Agent.
  5. Finish the Firing Range bronzes, play The Duel, then do the Combat Simulator and Challenges.
  6. Clear all four Special Assignments on every difficulty. The time-total crowns and the auto-aim crown count them.
  7. Finish by cleaning up the crowns, including the campaign time totals and Ninja.

Agent Run

Play every level on Agent in story order. Mission 1 (dataDyne Central) is three levels: Defection, Investigation and Extraction. A mission only counts as done once all of its levels are complete.

Every weapon you pick up and equip once in a solo mission is added to the Firing Range. You don't need a kill for that. Each level section below lists the Firing Range weapons to grab on this run, so the Firing Range is ready by the end of the campaign. Never use weapon cheats to fill gaps.

dataDyne Central

Collectibles 10 collectibles
  • Falcon 2 — starting kit in Defection and most levels.

  • Falcon 2 (silencer) — starting kit in Defection.

  • CMP150 — carried by most guards in Defection.

  • Dragon — two guards in Investigation.

  • Proximity Mine — box behind the radioactive isotope in Investigation.

  • Falcon 2 (scope) — starting kit in Extraction.

  • DY357 Magnum — Extraction: kill the first five guards unseen; the fifth drops it.

  • Shotgun — Cassandra's bodyguards in Extraction.

  • Rocket Launcher — floor of Cassandra's office in Extraction.

  • Grenade — Cassandra's desk in Extraction (reach the lift undamaged, then take her office key card); otherwise Infiltration guards on Special Agent or Perfect Agent.

Weapons to grab across the three levels:

  • Defection: Falcon 2 and Falcon 2 (silencer) are in your starting kit. Take a CMP150 from any guard.
  • Investigation: two guards carry Dragons. The Proximity Mine is in a box behind the radioactive isotope; you take a little damage grabbing it. Read Close Proximity below before using the mine.
  • Extraction: Falcon 2 (scope) is in your starting kit. Cassandra's bodyguards carry Shotguns. The Rocket Launcher is on the floor of Cassandra's office. Read Good Enough For Clint below before the first five guards.
  • Extraction Grenade: reach the ground-floor lift without taking any damage (Dr. Caroll included), kill the upper-level guard for Cassandra's office key card, and take the Grenade from her desk. If you miss it, Area 51 Infiltration guards carry grenades on Special Agent and Perfect Agent.

How's That For Starters?

Finish dataDyne Central - Defection on any difficulty. It unlocks when the level is complete.

Both Barrels

Kill an enemy while dual-wielding. Only small guns can be dual-wielded, and you dual-wield by picking up a second copy of the same gun. It works on any difficulty, in solo, co-op or Combat Simulator.

The dual Falcon 2 guard in Defection is only on the Special Agent and Perfect Agent routes. On Agent, take the first chance you get to pick up a duplicate small gun in any level and kill something with both.

If it's still locked when you reach Combat Simulator, pick up two of the same small gun from the arena weapon spawns and get a kill. That's guaranteed.

Double 64

Get 128 kills using secondary fire modes. The count builds across all guns, levels and sessions, so start now and switch to secondary fire whenever it's practical. There's no in-game counter.

Stick to secondary modes that fire a projectile or blast, since those are the reliable ones:

  • CMP150 follow lock-on (the easiest in the campaign)
  • Shotgun double blast
  • Crossbow instant kill
  • SuperDragon grenades
  • Devastator wall hugger
  • Phoenix explosive shells
  • Mauler charged shots
  • Laptop Gun sentries

Pistol-whips and other melee-style secondaries aren't confirmed to count. Plan for around 150 kills to leave margin.

Use CMP150 lock-on and the Laptop Gun freely on the Agent and Special Agent runs and in Combat Simulator, but not on the Perfect Agent run (see that run's setup).

Camera Shy

Destroy 5 different security cameras. Each camera counts once, and they can be in different levels. Shoot every camera you see in Defection and on through the campaign until it unlocks. Defection has more cameras on the higher difficulties, so if it hasn't popped by the end of this run, it will finish naturally on Special Agent or Perfect Agent.

Camera Shy is a HISTORICALLY REPORTED BUG (early 2010 reports of it not tracking). If it hasn't unlocked after you've clearly destroyed five different cameras, keep breaking new ones on later runs.

Close Proximity Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Close Proximity — Investigation, Agent: blow up three enemies at once with the hidden Proximity Mine.

On Investigation on Agent, blow up three enemies at the same time with one detonation of the hidden Proximity Mine. You only get one mine per attempt.

Walk the corridor toward the laser grid without killing anyone so the guards bunch up. Throw the mine ahead of them and let it go off once three or more are clustered on it. If you waste the mine, restart the level.

Good Enough For Clint Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Good Enough For Clint — Extraction, Agent: eight headshot kills with the hidden DY357 Magnum (kill the first five guards unseen to get it).

On Extraction on Agent, kill eight enemies with headshots using the hidden DY357 Magnum.

To get the Magnum, kill the first five guards you meet without being seen. The fifth one drops it. Stand well back when you take them out.

Ammo is tight, so don't waste shots, and don't switch weapons for the counted kills.

Carrington Villa

Collectibles 2 collectibles
  • Sniper Rifle — starting kit in Carrington Villa.

  • Devastator — crate at the Carrington Villa helipad.

The Sniper Rifle is in your starting kit. Blow open the crate at the helipad for a Devastator.

Act Your Age, Joanna

Break every wine bottle in the Villa basement, which you reach near the end of the level after the wind generator. The bottles fill roughly six shelves. The achievement unlocks when the last bottle breaks, and Carrington comments on it.

Shoot each shelf as you reach it. Don't go past the wine area until it unlocks, because going too far ends the level. If it hasn't popped, sweep every shelf surface again.

Chicago and G5 Building

Collectibles 2 collectibles
  • Remote Mine — objective item in Chicago.

  • Crossbow — G5 Building: knock out, don't kill, the second cloaked guard at the start.

In Chicago, the Remote Mine is an objective item; equip it once. In G5 Building, the Crossbow comes from the crown below.

Bow To The Audience Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Bow To The Audience — G5 Building, Agent: eight kills with the hidden Crossbow's instant-kill secondary.

This crown is on Agent difficulty.

  1. At the start of G5 Building, two cloaked guards stand by the large door. Knock out the second one with your fists or the silenced Falcon 2's pistol-whip; you can hit them while they're cloaked. Don't kill him, or he won't drop the hidden Crossbow.
  2. Switch the Crossbow to its lethal secondary mode. Its primary fire only sedates.
  3. Kill 8 enemies with it. Pick up missed bolts as you go.

These kills also count toward Double 64.

Chicago's crown is co-op only and is covered in the co-op section.

Area 51

Collectibles 3 collectibles
  • MagSec 4 — guards in Area 51 Infiltration.

  • SuperDragon — guards in Area 51 Rescue and Escape.

  • Tranquilizer — bio-technicians in Area 51 Escape; otherwise technicians in Maian SOS.

Area 51 has three levels: Infiltration, Rescue and Escape.

  • Infiltration: guards carry the MagSec 4. Knock out (don't kill) the brown-uniformed technician beside the robot air interceptor; he matters for the optional Phoenix below.
  • Rescue: guards drop SuperDragons.
  • Escape: bio-technicians in the main corridor and cryo room carry the Tranquilizer. Disarm or kill one and pick it up. If you miss it, technicians in Maian SOS carry it too.

Optional early Phoenix: if you knocked out the Infiltration technician, go up the first large elevator in Rescue and shoot the top or sides of the locked door at the end of the long hallway so he opens it. Ride the hangar-area elevator up; the Phoenix is on a small table by the windows in the room above the hangar lifts. This isn't confirmed on Agent. Skedar Ruins is the guaranteed source, so don't replay for it.

Easy Rider Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Easy Rider — Area 51 Escape, Agent: leave the base within 30 seconds of mounting the HoverBike.

In Escape on Agent, leave the base on the HoverBike within 30 seconds of getting on it. The HoverBike escape is a branch you have to choose at the end of the mission:

  1. At the final hangar conversation, Jonathan volunteers to stay behind and open the doors.
  2. When he starts walking toward the consoles, step directly in front of him before he reaches them. Joanna then tells Jonathan to leave with Elvis instead.
  3. Activate both hangar-door consoles yourself. Jonathan and Elvis leave in the Maian craft, and Joanna escapes on the HoverBike.
  4. A single press of A lets you move the HoverBike without starting the 30-second timer. Push it most of the way along the escape route first.
  5. When you're ready to ride the final stretch, double-tap A to mount it and head straight for the exit.

This branch also keeps Jonathan alive, so he appears later outside Carrington's office in Carrington Institute Defense, which makes Run And Gun safer. Use the same branch every time you clear Escape, on every difficulty.

Air Base, Air Force One and Crash Site

Collectibles 5 collectibles
  • K7 Avenger — NSA guards in Air Base.

  • Laptop Gun — starting kit in Air Force One.

  • Timed Mine — objective item in Air Force One.

  • Cyclone — Air Force One: knock out the two staircase guards and use their key cards on the side closets.

  • DY357-LX — Crash Site: disarm, don't kill, Trent.

  • Air Base: NSA guards carry the K7 Avenger.
  • Air Force One: the Laptop Gun is in your starting kit and the Timed Mine is an objective item. Knock out (don't kill) the two guards at the bottom of the staircase up to the President's room; their key cards open side closets holding a double Cyclone.
  • Crash Site: the DY357-LX comes from the crown below.

Magnum P.D. Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Magnum P.D. — Crash Site, Agent: kill the President's clone with Trent's DY357-LX.

In Crash Site on Agent, disarm (don't kill) Trent as he runs toward the President to take his golden DY357-LX. Then kill the President's clone with it. The clone is in the dark caves and has no suit jacket; the real President wears one.

This also adds the DY357-LX to the Firing Range. It's the most commonly missed weapon for Tools Of The Trade, so don't leave without it.

The Air Force One crown is co-op only and is covered in the co-op section.

Pelagic II and Deep Sea

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • FarSight XR-20 — Elvis gives it after the first teleportal in Deep Sea; take it on Special Agent if it doesn't appear on Agent.

In Deep Sea, Elvis hands you his FarSight XR-20 after the first teleportal. Pick it up, equip it, and kill an enemy with it for Maian Specialist if you get the chance. It's expected on Agent; if it doesn't appear, you'll get it on the Special Agent run.

Tick Tick...Boom Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Tick Tick...Boom — Pelagic II, Agent: take out four enemies at once with one N-Grenade.

In Pelagic II on Agent, take out four enemies at once with a single N-Grenade. Knock-outs count, but three isn't enough. Use the proximity setting and wait for four or more guards to group in a hallway or room.

Carrington Institute, Attack Ship and Skedar Ruins

Collectibles 9 collectibles
  • Mauler — dropped by the Skedar at the main entrance in Carrington Institute Defense.

  • AR34 — Device Training room kit in Carrington Institute Defense.

  • Laser — standard wrist weapon in Carrington Institute Defense.

  • RC-P120 — terminal in the Firing Range room in Carrington Institute Defense.

  • Combat Knife — starting kit in the Attack Ship jail cell.

  • Callisto NTG — starting kit in Skedar Ruins.

  • Reaper — dropped by Reaper Skedar in Skedar Ruins.

  • Slayer — the two Slayer Skedar after the bridge corridor in Skedar Ruins.

  • Phoenix — Skedar Ruins: destroy the two non-target pillars with the Devastator; optional earlier source in Area 51 Rescue.

Weapons to grab:

  • Carrington Institute Defense: the Skedar at the main entrance drops a Mauler, so blast him at the start. The AR34 is in the Device Training room kit, and the Laser is your standard wrist weapon. Activate the terminal in the Firing Range room to take the RC-P120.
  • Attack Ship: the Combat Knife is in your starting kit in the jail cell.
  • Skedar Ruins: the Callisto NTG is in your starting kit. Pick up a Reaper dropped by a Skedar and equip it once.
  • Skedar Ruins Slayer: after the bridge corridor, two Skedar carry Slayers. Kill each one with explosive shots so its rocket blows up in its face, then take the Slayer.
  • Skedar Ruins Phoenix: destroy the two non-target temple pillars with Devastator wall-hugger grenades, without putting target markers on those two. A double Phoenix then appears at the ravine edge.

Agent

Complete all 17 campaign levels on Agent. The achievement unlocks after the Skedar Ruins ending. The Special Assignments aren't required.

Clearing Agent also unlocks the Special Assignment Mr. Blonde's Revenge. Save it for after the Special Agent run, since its crown needs Special Agent.

Firing Range checkpoint: go to the Firing Range in Carrington Institute and count the weapons listed. You want 32. The usual gaps are:

  • FarSight XR-20
  • Phoenix
  • Slayer
  • Tranquilizer
  • Cyclone
  • Reaper
  • Grenade
  • DY357-LX

Replay a single level on Agent if the fix is quick. Otherwise collect it on the Special Agent run.

Two-Controller Co-op and Counter-op

Plug in a second controller and sign in a real second profile. Keep your achievement profile as player one. It isn't confirmed whether the second profile also earns the achievements. A single player can handle all of this by leaving the second character idle or switching controllers as needed.

Co-op Session

A Friend Indeed

Complete any full mission in Co-operative mode. Carrington Villa is the best choice because it's a single-level mission. Agent difficulty is fine.

Let the ending cutscene play out. It isn't confirmed as required, but it's a free precaution.

Quickly Does It Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Quickly Does It — Chicago, Agent, co-op only: finish the mission in under 35 seconds.

On Chicago on Agent in co-op, finish the whole mission in under 35 seconds.

  1. Park one player by the case pickup at the drop point.
  2. With the other player, push the dumpster right up against the stack of three explosive barrels, then shoot the barrels. The blast destroys the dumpster and frees the BombSpy.
  3. Use the BombSpy to blow up the four guards at the exit.
  4. Have the parked player grab the case and leave.

Expect a few attempts. Check the Awards screen on player one afterward.

Presidential Prediction Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Presidential Prediction — Air Force One, Agent, co-op: do objective 3 first and finish in under 1:12.

Prerequisite: board Air Force One the right way in Air Base. How you board the plane at the end of Air Base sets where Air Force One starts. Before trying this crown, play or replay Air Base on Agent in co-op and board through the upper, main airplane entrance, not the ladder into the cargo bay. If Air Force One starts in the cargo bay next to the HoverBike, the fast route won't work: quit, redo Air Base boarding through the upper entrance, then try again.

On Air Force One on Agent in co-op, complete objective 3 (detach the UFO from Air Force One) before anything else, then finish the level. Limits from 1:12 to 1:30 have been reported, so finish in under 1:12 to be safe.

Player two holds a Timed Mine, ready to throw, at the dock door while player one talks to the President. Sources disagree on when to release it: as the cutscene starts, or just after it ends. Try both. Combat Boosts help.

One person can do this alone with two controllers. Leave player two at the start, then pause and select the mine with player two.

Counter-op

...Who Needs Enemies?

Complete any full mission in Counter-Operative mode. The player controlling Joanna must finish it. Your achievement profile should be player one and play Joanna; leave the counter-op player idle.

Choose Carrington Villa if the Counter-op menu offers it. If not, pick any single-level mission it does offer, such as Carrington Institute Defense.

Special Agent Run

Play every level again on Special Agent. Enemies are tougher and there are more objectives. Health and weapon availability are close to Agent.

dataDyne Central

Paci-Fist

Complete Defection on Special Agent using only fists. Use disarm melee to strip the guards' guns, but never fire them. The Special Agent objectives are:

  1. Plant an ECM Mine on the internal security hub.
  2. Knock out Cassandra and take her keycode necklace.
  3. Plant an ECM Mine on the external comms hub.
  4. Reach the lab.

ECM Mines are gadgets and don't break the fists-only rule. Punch Cassandra and her secretary out rather than killing them; killing either fails the mission.

This clear also counts toward the Special Agent run.

Area 51

Rapid Radar Shut Down Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Rapid Radar Shut Down — Area 51 Infiltration, Special Agent: shut down the radar within 60 seconds.

In Infiltration on Special Agent, complete objective 1 (shut down the air-intercept radar) within 60 seconds of starting.

The radar goes down when you attach the Explosives to the main computer. Equip them quickly and plan for the few seconds before they go off; you don't have to survive the blast. Head through the fence opening toward the Rocket Launcher, and clear the minefield with grenades if needed. The crawlspace with the shield is a faster way in.

Master Of Disguise Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Master Of Disguise — Area 51 Rescue, Special Agent: get and put on the lab coat within 1:30.

In Rescue on Special Agent, get the lab coat disguise and put it on within 1:30. Picking it up isn't enough.

The clock starts when you skip the intro cutscene, so let it run until just before Jonathan says "In that crate".

  1. Take the first elevator to the second floor and go through the double doors.
  2. Blow open the weak wall with the Dragon's explosives.
  3. Go through the labs to the shower room.
  4. Kill the scientist at the back of the shower room, then pick up the coat and wear it.

Air Base

I Want To Be Sedated Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • I Want To Be Sedated — Air Base, Special Agent: sedate six enemies with the DrugSpy by 0:30.

On Air Base on Special Agent, sedate six enemies with the DrugSpy. Equip it at the start and get all six before 0:30 on the mission clock. That covers both readings of the 30-second limit.

Eight people can be sedated:

  • the patrolling front guard
  • the stewardess and the two guards escorting her
  • the two guards at the base entrance
  • two guards inside the base

The DrugSpy has limited ammo, so don't waste darts.

Rest of the Special Agent Campaign

Pick up the FarSight XR-20 from Elvis in Deep Sea if you didn't get it on Agent, and grab any other weapon the Firing Range checkpoint showed missing.

Special Agent

Complete all 17 levels on Special Agent. It unlocks after the Skedar Ruins ending, and it also unlocks Maian SOS.

Mr. Blonde's Revenge

Invisibility Factor Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Invisibility Factor — Mr. Blonde's Revenge, Special Agent: finish without the Cloaking Device.

Play Mr. Blonde's Revenge on Special Agent without ever using the Cloaking Device. Cassandra's bodyguards and the Shock Troopers with N-Grenades punish careless play.

Clearing the campaign on Special Agent unlocks both Mr. Blonde's Revenge and Maian SOS if they aren't already unlocked. While you're here, also clear Mr. Blonde's Revenge on Agent, and Maian SOS on Agent and Special Agent. Every Special Assignment needs a saved time on every difficulty for the campaign time-total crowns.

Perfect Agent Run

Before You Start the Run

Turn auto-aim off (Help & Options, then Settings, then Control) before starting, and keep it off for every level, including the Special Assignments. The crown The Name's Dark...Perfect Dark needs every mission on Perfect Agent with auto-aim off. Doing it now saves a fourth campaign.

For the whole run, avoid:

  • the Laptop Gun entirely, even though it's your starting weapon in Air Force One
  • the CMP150's follow lock-on mode
  • the Rocket Launcher's targeted rocket

Only the Laptop Gun is confirmed to break the crown. The other two are avoided as a cheap precaution.

Perfect Dark never regenerates health on any difficulty. On Perfect Agent, enemies are much more accurate and hit harder, there are extra objectives, and there are no hidden shields. Agent has two per level and Special Agent has one. Play slowly and use cover.

Your best time on each level also counts toward the Gold crown. Don't worry about speed yet; you can improve times later from mission select.

dataDyne Central and Carrington Villa

No Help Needed Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • No Help Needed — Defection, Perfect Agent: kill 15 enemies with auto-aim off.

In Defection on Perfect Agent, kill 15 enemies with auto-aim off. There's no time limit. Defection on Perfect Agent also has the most cameras, so finish Camera Shy here if it's still locked.

Way Of The Assassin Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Way Of The Assassin — Carrington Villa, Perfect Agent: five unzoomed sniper headshot kills.

In Carrington Villa on Perfect Agent, use the Sniper Rifle found in the second-floor bathroom to kill five enemies with headshots without zooming in. Aim at head height and strafe to line up each shot.

Deep Sea

Can't Touch This Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Can't Touch This — Deep Sea, Perfect Agent: complete objective 1 without taking damage.

In Deep Sea on Perfect Agent, complete objective 1 (reactivate the teleportals) without taking any damage. Treat any shield or health loss as a failure and restart.

Use the scoped Falcon 2 and fight from door cover. Elvis kills some guards with his FarSight in the first few rooms, but don't rely on him to stop you getting hit. Take your time; there's no time limit.

Carrington Institute Defense, Attack Ship and Skedar Ruins

Against All Odds... Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Against All Odds... — Attack Ship, Perfect Agent: kill the big Bridge Skedar with an explosive weapon, within 8 minutes.

On Attack Ship on Perfect Agent, kill the large Skedar holding two Maulers in the middle of the Bridge with an explosive weapon. Do it within 8 minutes of starting; that limit isn't confirmed, but meeting it costs nothing.

After the first elevator ride with Elvis, go to the room two doors ahead (four green tanks holding Skedar) and take the hidden Slayer. On the Bridge, steer its fly-by-wire rocket (secondary fire) into the big Skedar. Don't kill Elvis for his Phoenix, because that fails the mission.

Rocked Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Rocked — Skedar Ruins, Perfect Agent: identify the temple targets within 30 seconds.

In Skedar Ruins on Perfect Agent, complete objective 1 (identify the temple targets) within the first 30 seconds. Ignore the enemies.

The game randomly picks three of five pillars as targets each time you start. Some layouts, especially ones that include the farthest pillar, can't be done in 30 seconds even with perfect play, so check the layout first:

  1. Turn on your R-Tracker as soon as the level starts and see which pillars are targets.
  2. If the targets aren't the first hallway pillar, the lone pillar to the right of the path toward the canyon, and the tall pillar just over the wall behind that lone pillar, restart the level right away.
  3. Once that layout appears, tag the first hallway pillar, then the lone right-hand pillar.
  4. Tag the tall pillar by throwing a Target Amplifier over the wall. This also saves you from fighting the Reaper Skedar.

Perfect Agent

Complete all 17 levels on Perfect Agent. It unlocks after the Skedar Ruins ending, and it also unlocks WAR!.

Special Assignments on Perfect Agent

Play Mr. Blonde's Revenge, Maian SOS and WAR! on Perfect Agent with auto-aim still off, so they count toward The Name's Dark...Perfect Dark. WAR! also needs clears on Agent and Special Agent for the time-total crowns.

Magnum Forced Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Magnum Forced — Maian SOS, Perfect Agent: make the dual-LX guard kill five enemies with the Psychosis Gun.

In Maian SOS on Perfect Agent, shoot the guard holding two golden magnums (DY357-LX) with the Psychosis Gun, then let him kill five enemies. He's in the cryo containment area. Psychosis Gun ammo comes from the scientists in the autopsy room. Keep him alive and stay out of his line of fire until he reaches five.

Three Kings Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Three Kings — WAR!, Perfect Agent: kill all three kings with charged Mauler headshots, in under 1:35.

In WAR! on Perfect Agent, kill all three Skedar kings with headshots from a charged-up Mauler shot (secondary fire). The killing blow must be the charged headshot. Limits from 1:35 to 1:40 have been reported, so finish in under 1:35. Kill only one or two Skedar between kings, since each death spawns a replacement.

Run And Gun Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Run And Gun — Carrington Institute Defense, Perfect Agent, co-op: objectives 1 and 2 within 1:30 without the RC-P120 cloak, then finish.

Play Carrington Institute Defense on Perfect Agent in co-op. Because you sent Jonathan away with Elvis in Area 51: Escape, he appears outside Carrington's office later in this mission and helps with a later objective. Without using the RC-P120's cloak at any point, complete objectives 1 (reactivate the automatic defenses) and 2 (release the hostages) within 1:30, then finish the level. Combat Boosts are allowed.

One person can do this with two controllers in local split-screen. It's the hardest crown, so expect many attempts.

  1. Player one runs diagonally (faster) using Combat Boosts to the farthest turret first, then the remaining turrets and the final switch.
  2. Player two frees the hostages, starting with the Combat Training room. Kill guards over the Firing Range railing, and pick up the RC-P120 without ever pressing its cloak.
  3. Clear the enemies before the Skedar ship, complete the data uplink, and escape on the dropship.

Carrington Institute and Combat Simulator

Firing Range

Tools Of The Trade

Get Bronze or better on all 32 Firing Range weapons. The Firing Range is downstairs in Carrington Institute, through the first door on the right. This guide deliberately collects all 32 Firing Range weapons through solo missions, since those sources are reliable. Weapon pickups in Combat Simulator or Challenges may also register, but the route doesn't depend on them.

Count the weapon list. If it shows fewer than 32, collect the missing ones from the solo missions first. Every weapon's source is in the Collectibles list at the end of this guide. The Psychosis Gun and N-Grenade never appear in the Firing Range, which is normal.

Bronze only needs a score or target count, usually within 2 minutes, so most weapons pass on the first or second try. The Laptop Gun's bronze has a 30-second limit. A thrown Grenade can fall through the floor; throw another. Silver and Gold aren't needed.

Rare patched an achievement issue with Tools Of The Trade in 2010, but delayed or missing unlocks were still reported afterward. It remains obtainable today. As a cheap precaution, do all the bronzes in one sitting, then leave the game running for about five minutes before checking. The Duel appearing in mission select confirms the bronzes registered.

The Duel

Bronze on all 32 weapons unlocks The Duel, even if Tools Of The Trade is slow to appear. If The Duel doesn't appear after your bronzes, complete the Holotraining and Device Training in Carrington Institute as a precaution.

Clear The Duel on Agent and Special Agent too, since it counts toward the time-total crowns.

Perfect Head Crown

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Perfect Head — The Duel, Perfect Agent: kill all three opponents with headshots within 25 seconds.

In The Duel on Perfect Agent, kill all three opponents with headshots within 25 seconds. Misses are fine, but each killing shot must be a headshot. Keep your auto-aim setting off so it counts for The Name's Dark...Perfect Dark.

Combat Simulator Matches

Before starting, open Advanced Setup and check that the weapons, arenas and Classic weapons you need are selectable. Everything you found in solo should be there. If something's missing, clear the early Challenges first and check again.

Combat Simulator has six scenarios. Lower the score limit so each match ends quickly.

Versatile

Complete one Combat Simulator match in each of the six scenarios:

  • Combat
  • Hold the Briefcase
  • Hacker Central
  • Pop a Cap
  • Capture the Case
  • King of the Hill

Set the score limit to 1 and add one easy simulant. Each match counts once it ends normally, so don't quit out.

Golden Days

Complete a Combat Simulator match on Felicity, Complex or Temple using Classic Weapons. The Classic weapons are:

  • PP9i
  • CC13
  • KLO1313
  • KF7 Special
  • ZZT 9mm
  • DMC
  • AR53
  • RC-P45

Pick one of those arenas and fill every weapon slot with Classic weapons. A mixed loadout isn't confirmed to count. Then finish a short match against one easy simulant. A preset called Classic isn't confirmed, so set the slots by hand.

If the Classic weapons or arenas are missing, clear early Challenges and check again. Complex, Temple and Felicity were challenge unlocks in the original game.

Weapon Kill Cleanup

Combat Simulator kills count for these achievements, and so do mission kills. Use Advanced Setup to fill the weapon slots with the guns you need. Peace simulants don't fight back unless you're holding a gun, and then they only try to disarm you and run, which makes them easy targets.

Turn off Secondary Fire Reset in the Combat Simulator options so you stay in secondary mode after respawning.

Deadly Laptop

Kill 50 enemies with Laptop Gun sentries.

  1. Set every weapon slot to Laptop Gun.
  2. Play Felicity against about 8 Peace simulants.
  3. Deploy one sentry at a time, since placing a new one destroys the old one.
  4. Pick sentries up and redeploy them as needed. Each holds about 50 rounds.

These kills also count toward Double 64.

Double 64

If Double 64 still hasn't unlocked after Deadly Laptop, keep killing simulants with projectile or blast secondaries until it does. Laptop sentries, Crossbow instant kill and Shotgun double blast all work well.

dataDyne Specialist

Kill an enemy with each of the 10 dataDyne weapons:

  • CMP150
  • DY357 Magnum
  • DY357-LX
  • Shotgun
  • K7 Avenger
  • Dragon
  • SuperDragon
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Devastator
  • Combat Knife

Some lists show only eight, without the DY357-LX and Combat Knife, but the in-game manufacturer data lists all ten. Kill with both to be safe. The Psychosis Gun isn't a dataDyne weapon and isn't needed.

Carrington Institute Specialist

Kill an enemy with each of the 8 Carrington Institute weapons. The three Falcon 2 versions count separately:

  • Falcon 2
  • Falcon 2 (silencer)
  • Falcon 2 (scope)
  • Laptop Gun
  • AR34
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Laser
  • Crossbow (use the secondary instant kill)

The RC-P120 isn't required, since its in-game manufacturer is Chesluk Industries. It's free insurance, though, so get a kill with it too.

Maian Specialist

Kill an enemy with each of the three Maian weapons:

  • Phoenix
  • Callisto NTG
  • FarSight XR-20

Challenges

Prime Target

The description asks for every Challenge up to 29, but the long-standing method counts challenge stars instead of clearing every challenge from 1 to 29. It commonly unlocks at 29 lit stars in total, though some players have needed 30, so plan on one spare star.

Each challenge has four star slots, one for each number of human players (1, 2, 3 or 4). Winning with exactly that many humans lights that one slot; a two-player win lights the second star only, not two. Every win adds one star at most, so you normally need 29 winning matches, or 30 if the achievement waits for a 30th star. More controllers let you stay on the easiest challenges:

  • Four controllers: win challenges 1 to 7 with one, two, three and four players (28 stars), plus one star on challenge 8.
  • Three controllers: win challenges 1 to 9 with one, two and three players (27 stars), plus two stars on challenge 10.
  • Two controllers: win challenges 1 to 14 with one and two players (28 stars), plus one star on challenge 15.
  • One controller: you need every challenge from 1 to 29, including the Dark Sim challenges 28 and 29.

How to run it:

  1. Go through the challenges in numeric order. Each one opens when the previous one is won.
  2. Win each challenge solo, then press Start on extra controllers to join and win it again at each player count you can field. Extra players don't need a signed-in profile, but keep your profile as player one in every match.
  3. Every human must stay in until the match ends. Dying doesn't matter, but anyone quitting or dropping out voids the win, and your team must finish first. More players also means more and sometimes tougher simulants.
  4. The menu shows the four stars beside each challenge but no running total, so count the lit stars yourself.
  5. At 29 lit stars, quit to the dashboard, reload the game and wait for the achievement. It often only pops after the reload. If it doesn't, win a 30th star and reload again.

If it hasn't popped, recount the stars, win one more and reload again. If you have 31 or more lit stars and still nothing, fall back to winning every challenge from 1 to 29.

Challenge 10 is Hacker Central on Temple. Pick up a shield before grabbing the Data Uplink, because downloading leaves you nearly unable to move or shoot. Challenges 28, 29 and 30 use Dark Sims; challenge 30 isn't needed.

Optional fallback for a hard challenge (reported to still work, but unproven on this version):

  1. Build a custom Advanced Setup match with teams on, at least one enemy simulant and a score limit of 1. Put the humans on the team that will win.
  2. Player one highlights the target challenge in the Challenges menu.
  3. Player two joins and highlights the custom setup under Load Settings without loading it.
  4. Player one accepts the challenge and presses A until the waiting screen.
  5. Player two loads the custom setup and starts the match.

Winning that match completes the selected challenge, and the star lit matches the number of humans in it.

Crown Cleanup

To check your crowns, pause and go to Help & Options, then Awards. The screen shows crown names and icons, with earned crowns highlighted, but not the requirements. Crowns also appear next to your clear times on the leaderboards. Check the Awards screen against the 26 crowns in the Collectibles list at the end of this guide.

Five other unlocks share that screen: two gamer pictures, two avatar awards and a theme. They aren't crowns and aren't needed.

Campaign Time Totals

Collectibles 3 collectibles
  • Bronze — all 21 missions on Agent, best times totalling under 48:00.

  • Silver — all 21 missions on Special Agent, best times totalling under 1:09:00.

  • Gold — all 21 missions on Perfect Agent, best times totalling under 1:35:00.

Three crowns look at the sum of your best saved times on all 21 missions (17 levels plus the four Special Assignments) on one difficulty. Each limit is strict, so a total exactly on the limit fails:

  • Bronze: all missions on Agent, total under 48:00
  • Silver: all missions on Special Agent, total under 1:09:00
  • Gold: all missions on Perfect Agent, total under 1:35:00

Your best time for each mission shows when you pick its difficulty, so you can improve totals one mission at a time from mission select, in any order. Check the Mission Totals leaderboard to find your slowest missions and replay those. Running diagonally (strafing while moving forward) is faster than running straight.

All 21 missions need a saved time on that difficulty, including Mr. Blonde's Revenge, Maian SOS, WAR! and The Duel. A missing time blocks that difficulty's total, so clear any Special Assignment you haven't played on that difficulty before working on times.

The Name's Dark...Perfect Dark

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Name's Dark...Perfect Dark — all 21 missions on Perfect Agent with auto-aim off.

This crown needs all 21 missions on Perfect Agent, including the Special Assignments, completed with auto-aim off and no cheats. Also avoid the Laptop Gun, the CMP150's follow lock-on and the Rocket Launcher's targeted rocket.

If your Perfect Agent run broke any of these rules, replay those levels with the rules in place. If it doesn't unlock after every mission is done, replay any mission where you might have slipped before redoing everything.

Ninja

Collectibles 22 collectibles
  • Ninja — Combat Simulator: earn every end-of-match award title; earn the four medals too as insurance.

  • Most Honorable — fewest back-shots on other humans; zero always qualifies.

  • Most Deadly — best kills-to-deaths ratio among humans.

  • Most Professional — best kills-to-shots ratio among humans.

  • Most Frantic — highest average running speed among humans.

  • Marksmanship — most headshots among humans, at least one.

  • Double Kill — best simultaneous kill is exactly two.

  • Triple Kill — best simultaneous kill is exactly three.

  • Quad Kill — best simultaneous kill is exactly four; mines on grouped Peace simulants work.

  • Most Harmless — two humans: worst kills-to-deaths ratio.

  • Most Cowardly — two humans: fewest enemies seen on your screen.

  • Most Suicidal — two humans: most self-kills, at least one.

  • Longest Life — two humans: longest single life.

  • Shortest Life — two humans: shortest single life, with at least one death.

  • Least Shielded — two humans: fewest shields picked up, two or fewer.

  • Who Needs Ammo? — two humans: fewest shots fired, under 100.

  • Most Dishonorable — two humans: most back-shots on the other human.

  • Best Protected — two humans: most shields picked up, seven or more, with the other human picking up fewer.

  • Kill Master (red) — most kills of anyone in the match.

  • Head Shot (yellow) — two humans: most headshots among humans.

  • Accuracy (green) — two humans: best accuracy among humans, above 50 percent.

  • Survivor (blue) — longest single life (longest time alive between deaths) in the match; surviving the whole match is the safest setup.

The best-supported trigger for Ninja is earning every Combat Simulator end-of-match award title at least once, but reports still conflict on exactly what counts. To cover every version, earn all 17 award titles and all four medals. Both are listed with their conditions in the Collectibles list. Melee kills aren't the trigger. The game keeps no list of the awards or medals you've earned, so track them with the checklist.

Things to know before you start:

  • Second human needed: awards are only compared between human players, never simulants. Nine of the 17 can't be earned with only one human in the match, so plug in a second controller. The second player can be an unsigned guest, but your profile must be player one and must be the one earning each award.
  • What the end screen shows: each player sees at most two awards per match, picked at random from everything they qualified for. Quad Kill always shows if earned, so an award you earned may not appear. Replay until it does.
  • Challenge matches count: any Prime Target match with extra players also hands out awards, so use those matches too.

Get the eight solo-friendly titles first, during any match:

  • Most Honorable
  • Most Deadly
  • Most Professional
  • Most Frantic
  • Marksmanship
  • Double Kill
  • Triple Kill
  • Quad Kill

Then use short two-player matches with player two helping:

  1. Most Harmless: player one stays passive and dies while player two kills.
  2. Most Cowardly: player one faces a wall in a corner while player two fights.
  3. Most Suicidal: player one blows themselves up at least once more than player two.
  4. Shortest Life: player one dies right away so their shortest life is the shortest.
  5. Longest Life: later, player one survives longer than player two ever does.
  6. Least Shielded and Who Needs Ammo?: player one picks up no shields and fires fewer than 100 shots.
  7. Most Dishonorable: player one shoots player two in the back while player two never shoots player one in the back.
  8. Best Protected: player one picks up seven or more shields while player two picks up none. This one is the most often missed.

Finally, earn the four colored medals: Kill Master, Head Shot, Accuracy and Survivor. They aren't award titles and aren't confirmed as required, but treat them as required for safety. One two-controller setup covers all four:

  1. Set up a Combat match on a small arena with player one, player two and one easy simulant. Give everyone single-shot pistols such as the Falcon 2.
  2. Player two stands in the open and does nothing, so the simulant kills them a few times. Player two must never fire.
  3. Player one never dies, aims for the head on every shot, and keeps accuracy above 50 percent by only firing at close, clear targets.
  4. Player one must finish with more kills than the simulant and fewer deaths than everyone else in the match.

That gives player one the most kills (Kill Master), the most headshots among humans (Head Shot), the best accuracy above 50 percent (Accuracy) and the longest life, since they never die (Survivor). Like awards, medals may not all show on one end screen, so repeat the match until you've seen each medal for player one.

Ninja may not show a popup. Check the Awards screen after each batch.
