▶Before You Start
▶Xbox Stack and Completion Plan
This guide uses the current Xbox Series X|S achievement list. As verified on September 24, 2026, the list contains 12 achievements worth 1,100 Gamerscore: 11 base-game achievements for 1,000G and one free Enhanced Update achievement worth 100G.
There are no online or co-op achievements. The entire completion is single-player and can be completed offline.
There are no permanently missable base-game achievements. The two collectible achievements can be cleaned up through Chapter Select. Individual areas contain one-way progression points, however, so this route collects everything during the first playthrough to avoid replaying chapters.
Full 1,100G requires at least two story playthroughs. Dark Rot mode only unlocks after completing the story once, then requires a complete second run under its own fixed high-difficulty rules and four-death failure limit.
The efficient route is:
- First playthrough: complete the story while collecting all 18 Lorestangir and revealing all 17 Hidden Face paths.
- After the story: launch a chapter with an alternate narrator.
- Use Chapter Select only if a collectible was missed.
- Second playthrough: complete a direct Dark Rot story run with no collectible detours.
- Chapter 6 has no collectibles.
As of September 24, 2026, there are no currently confirmed unobtainable or discontinued achievements on the Xbox Series X|S list.
▶Settings and Combat Preparation
The normal story has no difficulty-related achievement. Easy, Medium, Hard, and Dynamic can all be used without affecting the base-game achievements.
The accessibility menu also allows Offensive Actions and Defensive Actions to be set to Simplified or Self-Play. These assists can automate most or all normal combat without disabling base-game achievements.
For the full 1,100G, consider playing the first run manually instead. Dark Rot does not let you reduce its combat challenge, so the first playthrough is your safest opportunity to learn blocking, parrying, dodging, Focus usage, enemy attack patterns, and the major environmental sequences without risking an entire run.
The two collectible systems are:
- Lorestangir: 18 wooden lore totems. Focus on each until its rune visibly registers and the narration begins. You do not need to remain for the entire narration.
- Hidden Faces: 17 face-shaped rock formations. Hold Focus until the face disappears and its secret path opens.
The glowing tree beyond each Hidden Face is not required for Glimpses of the Gods. This guide still tells you to enter each revealed path and Focus on its glowing tree as a recommended safe-extra. Doing so registers the associated Landdisasteinar lore and gives you a useful ordered secondary tracker.
The trackers should not be confused:
- Chapter Select can identify chapters with incomplete Hidden Face content.
- Lorestangir use a fixed-order rune tracker.
- The trees behind Hidden Faces use a separate ordered yellow-dot tracker.
- A gray tree dot does not prove the corresponding Hidden Face was never revealed if you skipped that tree.
- The tree tracker is a reliable face-by-face proxy only if you consistently activate every tree after revealing its face.
Collectible progress persists through Chapter Select, so cleanup does not require another full normal playthrough.
▶Chapter 1 — Reykjanestá
▶Landfall and the Shore
Open Photo Mode at any convenient point.
▶Worth a Thousand Words
Open Photo Mode once. Up on the D-pad is the default shortcut. You do not need to save a picture.
The first and only Chapter 1 collectible is Lorestangir 1/18.
After climbing away from the beach during the early coastal traversal, continue along the mandatory route until you reach the large wooden lore totem.
Focus on it until the rune registers and its narration begins.
Continue through the shipwreck route and toward the slavemaster.
▶Slavemaster Confrontation
Finish the Chapter 1 combat and defeat Thórgestr.
▶The Next Sign
The Next Sign100G
This story achievement unlocks after surviving the shipwreck sequence and capturing Thórgestr.
▶Chapter 2 — Freyslaug
▶Freyslaug Sighted
While walking with Thórgestr near the beginning of the chapter, enter the fenced settlement on the right containing two thatched huts.
Circle behind the huts.
Lorestangir 2/18 is in the rear corner.
Focus until it registers.
▶Return Home
After obtaining the mirror, completing the burning-village combat, and continuing until night returns, the mandatory route eventually passes through a wooden barn/building containing a hanging body.
After exiting the barn and before crossing the long suspended bridge:
Lorestangir 3/18
- Turn left into the circular fenced area.
- Continue left.
- Crouch beneath the obstruction.
- The Lorestangir is on the right beyond it.
Focus until registered.
Hidden Face 1/17
Still before the suspended bridge:
- Move left toward the burning torch beside the house.
- Find the face set into the outside corner beside the house, to the right of the torch.
- Hold Focus until the face disappears and the hidden passage opens.
- Enter the passage and Focus on the glowing tree as the recommended safe-extra.
The tree is for Landdisasteinar lore/tracking. Revealing the face itself is what matters for the achievement.
▶Draugar Ceremony
After the sequence where hands surround Senua's head, follow the mandatory cliff shimmy and drop down.
Immediately after the drop:
Lorestangir 4/18
- Turn left.
- Climb the ladder.
- Climb over the short wall.
- Follow the optional route to the Lorestangir.
Warning: collect this before entering the low tunnel containing the hanging bones. That tunnel commits the story forward and prevents immediate backtracking.
Continue through the ritual and the large combat sequence.
▶Meeting the Stranger
After rescuing Fargrímr and returning to daylight:
▶The Man in the Middle
This unlocks as part of the story after the rescue.
At the broken bridge:
Hidden Face 2/17
- Before following Fargrímr downhill, turn left.
- Follow the short optional path to the rock wall.
- Hold Focus until the face disappears and the path opens.
- Focus on the tree beyond it as the recommended safe-extra.
Farther downhill, when the route descends toward the river:
Lorestangir 5/18
Take the optional route on the left rather than immediately following the main descent.
The Lorestangir sits slightly downhill in that side area.
Focus until registered.
Chapter 2 checkpoint:
- Lorestangir: 5/18
- Hidden Faces: 2/17
▶Chapter 3 — Rauðhólar
▶Red Hills
At the opening ruined settlement:
Lorestangir 6/18
Explore the left side behind the broken house near the cracked ground.
Focus on the totem in the optional area.
Hidden Face 3/17
Remain on the left side of the settlement.
Continue behind/past the ruined structure toward the outer rock wall.
Focus on the Hidden Face until the path opens, then scan the tree beyond it if following the recommended tracking route.
Hidden Face 4/17
Return toward the point where Senua originally descended into the village, then explore the right side behind the ruined buildings.
Follow the route into the small rounded dead-end.
The face is on the left-hand rock wall.
Focus until its path opens and scan the optional tree.
For Chapter Select purposes, both Faces 3 and 4 belong to Red Hills.
▶On the Hill
After the foggy forest sequence and return to daylight:
Lorestangir 7/18
Before leaving the hilltop settlement, circle around the upper area and climb toward the highest accessible point between the huts.
Focus until registered.
After leaving Fargrímr's settlement and descending the mandatory route, pass the small puddle.
The story route bends right.
Hidden Face 5/17
Instead of following the bend immediately, continue toward the short dead-end ahead/left.
Inspect the rock wall and Focus until the passage opens.
Activate the tree as the recommended safe-extra.
At the first relevant orb/pedestal puzzle, place the two required orbs and open the blocked route.
Hidden Face 6/17
Proceed through the newly opened path and watch the right side while climbing gently uphill.
Focus on the face in the rock formation until the path opens.
Activate its tree if following the recommended tracker route.
Lorestangir 8/18
Continue uphill.
Before taking the low/crouching route on the right:
- Turn left.
- Follow the optional upper path.
- Focus on the Lorestangir at the end.
At the next orb puzzle, complete the three-orb setup and continue by dropping down two ledges into the area with several puddles.
Hidden Face 7/17
Before following the puddle route:
- Turn right.
- Climb the two optional ledges.
- Focus on the face at the top of the raised side area.
- Scan the optional tree.
Return to the puddle area.
Lorestangir 9/18
Continue past two puddles.
Turn left and squeeze through the narrow gap into the side route.
Lorestangir 10/18
Return toward the main route and locate the small crouching cave on the right.
Crouch through to reach the totem.
Warning: collect Lorestangir 9 and 10 before taking the forward story drop into the next cave. That drop prevents immediate backtracking.
▶Find the Hiddenfolk
During the later lake-side three-orb puzzle, reach the route containing the third orb.
At the third orb:
Lorestangir 11/18
Turn around and look upward/behind Senua.
The final Chapter 3 Lorestangir hangs upside down from the cave ceiling and can be focused from below.
Its inverted position makes it especially easy to miss.
Complete the lake puzzle and continue the descent.
▶The Hidden World
The Hidden World100G
This unlocks at the end of Chapter 3.
Chapter 3 checkpoint:
- Lorestangir: 11/18
- Hidden Faces: 7/17
▶Chapter 4 — Huldufólk
▶Enter the Caves
Near the beginning of the underground section:
Hidden Face 8/17
- Drop from the first ledge.
- Continue into the cramped, low-ceiling passage.
- Crouch through.
- Immediately inspect the left wall in the chamber beyond.
- Focus until the hidden path opens.
- Scan the tree beyond it as the recommended safe-extra.
Continue through the following mandatory ledges until you reach the small shallow-water area.
Lorestangir 12/18
Immediately turn right and climb the optional ledge/path.
Focus until registered.
This shallow-water landmark is more reliable than trying to count the preceding ledge drops.
Continue deeper into the turquoise-fire mechanics.
Hidden Face 9/17
After progressing and dropping another ledge:
- Turn right toward the next turquoise-fire basin.
- Extinguish it.
- Turn around.
The environmental change exposes the Hidden Face that was previously obstructed.
Focus until its passage opens, then scan the optional tree.
Continue to the flooded cave section.
Hidden Face 10/17
Immediately after dropping into the water:
- Turn around instead of following the story route.
- Follow the short flooded dead end behind Senua.
- Focus on the face at the end.
- Scan the tree if desired.
Later, create the required bridge by manipulating the turquoise fires.
After crossing it:
Lorestangir 13/18
- Continue onto the downward cave route.
- Watch the right side.
- Locate the lower optional ledge/path.
- Drop down to the Lorestangir.
For Chapter Select purposes, this collectible belongs to Enter the Caves.
▶Trial of Wisdom and Act of Sacrifice
After Senua relinquishes her sword and survives the dark sequence by following the guiding light, continue until reaching the bright cavern with daylight and floating rock formations.
Hidden Face 11/17
Before following the objective onward, inspect the left side of the cavern.
Focus until the path opens and scan its optional tree.
Continue to the next required ledge drop.
Lorestangir 14/18
After dropping:
- Take the right-hand route.
- Do not follow the story route left yet.
- Focus on the Lorestangir in the optional area.
▶The First Ritual
Continue to Illtauga.
▶Returned to the Earth
This unlocks after speaking Ingunn's name and releasing Illtauga.
Chapter 4 checkpoint:
- Lorestangir: 14/18
- Hidden Faces: 11/17
▶Chapter 5 — Bárðarvík
▶To the Sea
After Senua becomes separated from Fargrímr and Thórgestr, follow the coastal mountain route.
Continue downhill until reaching the small stream/waterfall.
Hidden Face 12/17
Look to the right beside the small waterfall.
Focus on the face set into the rock wall until its path opens.
Scan the tree beyond it as the recommended safe-extra.
Continue uphill from the stream.
Lorestangir 15/18
- Take the optional route right into the waterfall cave.
- Turn right again inside.
- Follow the watercourse to the Lorestangir.
This distinguishes the initial small stream/waterfall landmark from the collectible's deeper waterfall route.
▶Sjávarrisi
After meeting Ástríðr:
Hidden Face 13/17
Before entering the narrow squeeze she approaches:
- Inspect the rocks immediately to the right.
- Focus until the face disappears and its passage opens.
- Scan the optional tree.
Continue through the wall climb, drop, gap, ledges, and open grassy section.
Lorestangir 16/18
Before the next wall climb:
- Turn right.
- Crouch through the opening in the rocks.
- Follow the side route to the Lorestangir.
Continue through the combat and reach the three-glyph perspective puzzle blocking the route.
Complete all three glyphs and pass through the opened barrier.
Hidden Face 14/17
Shortly after the barrier:
- Take the substantial side path branching right.
- Follow it to the face.
- Focus until its path opens.
- Scan the optional tree.
Collect this before the later large drop into the next puzzle section.
For Chapter Select purposes, Face 14 belongs to Sjávarrisi.
▶Another Question
During the later beach puzzle requiring three glyphs, take the route toward the shipwreck and blue/turquoise haze.
Pass through the haze and squeeze through the narrow opening.
Lorestangir 17/18
Follow the shoreline side route to the Lorestangir and register it.
Now turn around and retrace the route.
Hidden Face 15/17
Before squeezing back out, inspect the cave wall on the return path.
The face is easier to identify while leaving this side area.
Focus until the passage opens, then scan its tree.
Continue through the underwater sequence into the storm-lashed village.
Follow the village route and count the huts on the right.
Hidden Face 16/17
After passing the third hut on the right:
- Take the optional path behind it.
- Find the face near the rear torch/rock wall.
- Focus until the path opens.
- Scan the optional tree.
Return to the main route.
Pass the next hut on the left and take the short uphill route on the left.
Lorestangir 18/18
Turn around the stone/building edge and register the final totem.
▶Tales of Midgard
Tales of Midgard100G
If all previous Lorestangir were registered, Tales of Midgard should unlock when Lorestangir 18 registers.
A return to the main menu is not part of the established achievement requirement. If the achievement does not appear:
- let the save complete;
- return to the main menu;
- inspect the fixed-order Lorestangir tracker;
- use Chapter Select for the missing ordinal if necessary.
From Lorestangir 18, turn around and follow the nearby route toward the hut/house with the burning torch.
Do not take the nearby story progression drop yet.
Continue around/behind the house.
Hidden Face 17/17
Focus on the face beside the torch/rock wall until it disappears and the secret path opens.
The glowing tree beyond it remains optional for the achievement, but activate it if you have been using the tree tracker.
▶Glimpses of the Gods
If the previous sixteen Hidden Faces were correctly revealed, this unlocks when Face 17's path opens.
The glowing trees are not required for the achievement.
If the achievement does not unlock:
- use Chapter Select to identify chapters with incomplete Hidden Face counts;
- sweep the affected portion of the 17-face manifest;
- hold Focus until each suspected face visibly disappears and its path opens;
- use the tree spiral as an exact ordinal diagnostic only if you activated every tree during the original route.
The important late-game sequence is:
Hidden Face 16 → Lorestangir 18 → Hidden Face 17 → story progression
▶Waking the Giant and the Second Ritual
Finish the remainder of Chapter 5.
▶The Storm Calmed
The Storm Calmed100G
This unlocks through story progression.
▶Chapter 6 — Borgarvirki
There are no Lorestangir or Hidden Faces in Chapter 6.
▶Into the Forest
Continue guiding the group through the final chapter.
▶Borgarvirki
▶A Guiding Light
A Guiding Light100G
This unlocks after reaching Borgarvirki.
▶Heart of Darkness
Continue through the final confrontation.
▶End the Tyranny
End the Tyranny150G
This unlocks through the ending.
Completing the story also unlocks Dark Rot and the alternate narrator options needed for the remaining achievements.
▶Postgame
▶Alternate Narrator
From the main menu, open the audio settings and select an alternate narrator.
Launch any chapter.
▶Seeing Things Differently
This unlocks after launching a chapter with the alternate narrator selected.
▶Collectible Cleanup
If either collectible achievement remains incomplete, use Chapter Select.
Expected chapter totals are:
- Chapter 1: 1 Lorestangir / 0 Hidden Faces
- Chapter 2: 4 / 2
- Chapter 3: 6 / 5
- Chapter 4: 3 / 4
- Chapter 5: 4 / 6
- Chapter 6: 0 / 0
Final totals:
- 18 Lorestangir
- 17 Hidden Faces
For Lorestangir:
- use the fixed-order rune tracker;
- identify the missing ordinal;
- replay the relevant chapter/checkpoint;
- Focus until the rune visibly registers;
- once the pickup has saved, you do not need to finish the rest of the chapter solely for that collectible.
For Hidden Faces:
- use Chapter Select's face counts first;
- replay the affected chapter/checkpoint;
- Focus until the face disappears and the path opens.
Do not treat a gray tree dot as proof that the corresponding Hidden Face is missing unless you deliberately activated every tree during the original run.
The tree spiral tracks the tree/Landdisasteinar layer, while the achievement tracks the 17 revealed Hidden Face paths.
▶Enhanced Update — Dark Rot
▶Preparation
Dark Rot unlocks only after completing the normal story.
Start a new story in Dark Rot. Chapter Select cannot substitute for completing the entire Dark Rot campaign.
Dark Rot effectively gives you four lives:
- first completed death: rot advances;
- second completed death: rot advances;
- third completed death: final survivable state;
- fourth completed death: the Dark Rot campaign is erased and you must restart from Chapter 1.
A knockdown is not automatically a death. If Senua recovers and the encounter continues, the rot has not advanced.
Set Button Mashing → Auto if desired. This does not automate Dark Rot combat. It only automates repeated-input recovery actions and can reduce the chance that a recoverable knockdown becomes a death.
Combat Self-Play cannot be relied upon in Dark Rot.
Focus is built through successful attacks and successful parries. Passive blocking and dodging do not provide equivalent Focus generation.
Because Dark Rot's parry timing is much less forgiving than normal play, use a conservative combat philosophy:
Do not recollect Lorestangir, Hidden Faces, or their trees. They are irrelevant to Dark Rot Complete.
If you want rehearsal before committing lives, normal Chapter Select is most useful for:
- Thórgestr;
- the Chapter 2 Mirror Tutorial;
- the Chapter 2 Draugar ritual;
- the Chapter 3 Illtauga pursuit;
- the Nightmare Forest;
- Chapter 3 mirrored fights;
- Chapter 4 darkness sequences;
- Illtauga's ritual;
- Chapter 5 upgraded Draugar;
- Shield/Spear enemies;
- the village raid;
- Waking the Giant;
- the Sea Giant ritual.
▶Survival Route
The basic Dark Rot combat loop is:
- Let the enemy start its sequence.
- Block or dodge.
- Dodge the heavy/unblockable finisher.
- Counter once or twice.
- Return immediately to defense.
Do not extend an attack string simply because the first counter connected.
Standard Swordsman
If you see the throat-slash-style tell:
- hold block through the rapid flurry;
- do not attempt to parry every hit;
- dodge the final heavy;
- counter only after it misses.
Enhanced Swordsmen use this dangerous extended behavior more aggressively.
Axethrower
Dodge the projectile laterally.
If the enemy remains at range, be ready for another throw before closing.
Do not charge blindly into the ranged-to-melee transition.
Heavy
Evade the heavy sequence, punish with one heavy attack, then retreat.
Near its apparent defeat, stay ready. A Heavy can survive the apparent finishing moment and immediately perform a four-unblockable retaliation. The third hit can arrive especially quickly.
Firebreather
When it raises or drinks from its flask:
Avoid the flame first and punish only afterward.
Do not rely on being able to pause after the fire has already connected.
Enhanced Firebreathers later add an explosive/leaping-fire attack. When both arms rise, wait for the detonation timing, dodge the explosion, punish the recovery, then reset.
Shield/Spear Draugar
Dodge the spear laterally and close the gap afterward.
At close range:
- use a heavy attack against the shield;
- if it remains braced, immediately use another heavy;
- it typically takes two heavy attacks to break or stagger the guard;
- take a short punish;
- reset.
Do not mash light attacks into the shield.
Many of its close strings contain roughly three attacks, but confirm the sequence has ended before countering.
Ghouls
Dodge the leap/slash, counter once or twice, then reset.
If grabbed, escape the grab but do not immediately counter. Re-establish spacing first.
Chapter 1 — Reykjanestá
Preserve every life.
The early slavers are practice for the defensive rhythm.
Thórgestr
Treat the fight as roughly six phases.
Axe-equipped phases 1–3:
- move backward/right;
- evade the opening attacks;
- counter once;
- add a second light only when clearly safe;
- immediately prepare for his response.
After the third phase he loses the axe.
Axe-less phases 4–6:
- defend the first three attacks;
- dodge the fourth;
- counter once or twice;
- return immediately to block.
A midpoint reload into the axe-less portion has been observed but is inconsistent.
Treat the start of the fight as the dependable retry point.
Life target: 0 deaths.
Chapter 2 — Freyslaug
Mirror Tutorial
Expected order:
- Mirrored Swordsman
- Mirrored Swordsman
- Mirrored Swordsman
- Mirrored Heavy Axeman
The Swordsmen can use variable-length attack strings.
Do not assume you have a counter window simply because two attacks occurred.
If the chain continues, remain defensive until the actual finisher.
The Mirrored Heavy needs its own pattern.
Its double-overhead axe sequence creates one of the safer punish windows. Evade both swings, then use one controlled heavy counter.
When spikes project outward, dodge laterally.
When it encloses itself in spikes before the burst:
- dodge forward/through the burst;
- finish near melee range;
- use the recovery window for a heavy counter.
When Focus becomes available:
- wait for a confirmed opening;
- stay close;
- activate Focus;
- land three heavy attacks before the window expires.
A current player-observed checkpoint may resume at the Heavy after the three Swordsmen, but do not rely on it as a guaranteed checkpoint.
Life target: 0 deaths.
Draugar Ritual
The strongest expected reference order is:
Swordsman → Axethrower → Heavy → Firebreather → Swordsman → Axethrower → Firebreather → Heavy → Axethrower
Use the sequence as orientation rather than a rigid count.
The Firebreathers are the priority threats.
Save Focus for a dangerous later opponent when practical.
This gauntlet has unusual reload behavior:
- quit-to-menu returns to the hard checkpoint;
- after substantial progress, an actual death can sometimes resume Senua at or shortly before a later enemy.
There is no reliable fixed breakpoint by enemy number.
If a genuine death occurs deep into the gauntlet and Continue preserves major progress, keeping that spent life can be strategically worthwhile.
Do not deliberately die trying to create a checkpoint.
Ideal: 0 deaths.
Strategically acceptable: 1 genuine death if it preserves substantial progress.
Chapter 3 — Rauðhólar
Illtauga pursuit
Being caught consumes a Dark Rot life.
- Sprint continuously.
- Follow the mandatory route.
- Clear both required hurdles.
- Do not stop after either hurdle to adjust the camera.
- Continue until the camera movement clearly ends the chase.
Nightmare Forest
There are three lethal route choices.
At every split:
Do not rush.
First mirrored set
Mirrored Heavy → Mirrored Swordsman → Mirrored Swordsman
Second mirrored set
Mirrored Heavy → Mirrored Swordsman → Mirrored Swordsman → Mirrored Heavy
Use the full Mirror Tutorial contracts, including the Heavy's spike mechanics.
Final Draugar set
Axethrower → Enhanced Swordsman → Firebreather → Heavy
Treat the Firebreather as the priority threat.
Chapter 3 life target: 0 deaths.
Chapter 4 — Huldufólk
The major threat here is environmental.
Dark Water
Run whenever Senua is exposed to the dark water.
Move directly between safe positions and do not stop there to orient.
Hiddenfolk Lights
Stay close to the moving blue lights.
Sprint and react promptly when their route turns.
After climbing the late shelf/ledge, continue immediately rather than pausing.
Straying too far into the darkness can consume a life.
Ghouls
Use the Ghoul dodge/counter rhythm.
Earlier groups include several short encounters before the longer late gauntlet.
During the late cinematic Ghoul sequence, do not worry about a rigid count.
A red-light surrounding sequence occurs around the middle, and once the narrator begins speaking during the later mobbing section, the fight is approaching its end.
No useful death-only checkpoint is established here.
Illtauga ritual
Move one protected rock at a time:
- remain behind cover;
- wait for the heat blast;
- sprint to the next safe rock;
- stop fully inside its protection;
- repeat;
- break the required chains.
Near the end, the encounter changes from cover-to-cover timing into a scripted escape.
When that happens, commit to the forward sprint.
Chapter 4 life target: 0 deaths.
Preserve your life reserve for Chapter 5.
Chapter 5 — Bárðarvík
This is the critical Dark Rot chapter.
Before the main village defense, you will already face upgraded Draugar.
Their precise order can vary, so identify them by enemy type.
Village Defense / Raid
This is the major combat wall.
Do not attempt to memorize one exact enemy count or order.
The raid contains randomized enemy slots and can present different combinations of:
- Enhanced Swordsmen;
- Shield/Spear Draugar;
- Axethrowers;
- Enhanced Firebreathers;
- Heavies.
After every scripted companion/villager interruption:
The raid also has unusual death-only progress.
Ordinary quit-to-menu returns you to the raid's hard checkpoint.
Actual deaths after substantial progress can sometimes resume you later in the raid through player-reported death-only soft-progress states.
The exact boundaries are not deterministic.
Do not assume:
- a checkpoint every four enemies;
- a specific enemy number;
- a guaranteed companion-scene checkpoint.
If a genuine death occurs after substantial progress:
- choose Continue;
- see where you resume;
- if the game preserved a large portion of the raid, keeping that spent life can be worthwhile.
Do not deliberately die to force this behavior.
Life-state guidance entering Chapter 5:
- 0 deaths used: excellent.
- 1 death used: healthy.
- 2 deaths used: high risk.
- 3 deaths used: critical but still completable.
If three deaths are already used, the next completed death ends the run.
Restarting is the conservative no-rollback option if you want a meaningful safety margin, but the run is not automatically failed.
One or two genuine raid deaths can still be strategically acceptable if they preserve major progress.
Waking the Giant
The chase itself can consume a life.
- Sprint continuously.
- When an ally hands you a burning spear, aim at the giant's head.
- Throw immediately.
- Resume sprinting.
- Repeat for the later spear opportunities.
- Continue until the ritual transition.
Do not stop to watch the spear hit.
Second Ritual — waves
Move structure to structure.
For each wave:
- run to the next standing structure;
- interact with its ring/handle;
- hold on while the wave hits;
- release after it passes;
- immediately move to the next one.
Do not attempt to outrun a wave that the game expects you to brace against.
Second Ritual — falling debris
Later, the mechanic changes.
Once the wave-bracing section ends:
Watch the ground and impact shadows and steer away from where debris is about to land.
Chapter 5 environmental target: 0 deaths outside any already-incurred raid death.
Chapter 6 — Borgarvirki
The remaining fights are simpler than the Chapter 5 raid, but a late mistake can still end a low-life run.
Goði's Men — Part One
Swordsman → Heavy
Goði's Men — Part Two
Heavy → Swordsman → Swordsman → Heavy → Swordsman → Heavy
For the Chapter 6 Swordsman:
- defend the first two attacks;
- dodge the third/heavy attack;
- counter once;
- add a second only when clearly safe;
- reset.
For the Heavy:
- evade all three rapid unblockable attacks;
- after the third misses, use one heavy counter;
- reset.
Goði
Goði is not the primary Dark Rot wall.
Use this loop:
- dodge his telegraphed attack;
- counter during recovery;
- continue until the hidden Focus threshold triggers the separation sequence;
- allow Focus to become available;
- activate it;
- sprint directly at Goði;
- land roughly three to four hits during the Focus window;
- repeat until the narrative phase changes.
Do not walk toward him while Focus is active.
Once the final internal dialogue begins and the crowd gathers around the arena, Senua can no longer die.
Continue attacking until the ending triggers.
Life-budget summary
Preserve every life by default.
The only established situations where keeping an already-incurred death may be strategically advantageous are:
- the Chapter 2 Draugar ritual;
- the Chapter 5 village raid.
Those encounters can preserve death-only soft progress that ordinary quit-to-menu would discard.
Do not deliberately die simply to activate that behavior.
The safest practical budget is:
- Chapters 1–2 Mirror Tutorial: 0 deaths.
- Chapter 2 ritual: 0 preferred, 1 genuine death acceptable if it preserves major progress.
- Chapters 3–4: 0 deaths.
- Enter Chapter 5 with at least three lives remaining whenever possible.
- Chapter 5 raid: one or two genuine deaths can be strategically acceptable if they preserve deep progress.
- Waking the Giant, Second Ritual, and Chapter 6: preserve all remaining lives.
Quit-to-menu recovery
If Senua is badly damaged or knocked down but still alive and the pause menu remains available:
Once the death registers, ordinary quit-to-menu cannot remove it.
Current player testing also reports that quitting and reloading can restore Senua's health.
Treat that as player-tested recovery behavior, not a guaranteed game-system mechanic.
Remember the Chapter 2 and Chapter 5 exception: if a genuine death has already happened deep in one of those gauntlets, Continue may preserve more progress than quitting would.
Optional Xbox cloud rollback
This is not required for the achievement and is not part of Dark Rot's intended in-game rules.
It is an optional, community-tested emergency workaround and depends on cloud synchronization timing.
If you choose to use it:
- At a known-good checkpoint, return to the main menu.
- Fully quit the game so Xbox has an opportunity to synchronize that state.
- Continue playing.
- If a later death needs to be rolled back, avoid intentionally performing another normal clean shutdown first because the newer state may synchronize.
- Open Xbox saved-data management.
- Remove only the local console copy of the profile save.
- Relaunch the game.
- Allow Xbox to synchronize the cloud copy.
Never choose Delete everywhere.
The older cloud revision may no longer exist when you attempt the rollback, so success is not guaranteed.
Do not rely on waiting a specific number of seconds as proof that the desired save has synchronized.
▶Dark Rot Complete
Complete the entire story in Dark Rot.
After defeating Goði, continue through the ending.
Do not expect the achievement on the boss's final hit.
The credits may be skipped.
Dark Rot Complete unlocks when the completed Dark Rot ending returns the game to the main menu.
If the achievement has not appeared immediately after defeating Goði, that is normal. Finish the ending flow first.
