Completion Plan

Shift At Midnight has 10 Xbox achievements worth 1,000G on its Xbox Series X|S and Windows Xbox Play Anywhere list. As of 2026-10-14 the list has no DLC or title-update achievement pack.

All 10 achievements can be earned solo. Online co-op is optional, and no achievement is co-op-only. If you play in co-op, confirm each kill and arsenal achievement on your own profile before moving on. It is not confirmed that every lobby member gets credit when another player makes the kill or the purchase.

No achievement is CURRENTLY CONFIRMED UNOBTAINABLE or CURRENTLY CONFIRMED DISCONTINUED as of 2026-10-14, and no current achievement-blocking bug is confirmed. Co-op stability problems were reported around launch, so playing the three ending runs solo is a cheap precaution.

Three Story Clears

Plan on three Story Mode clears. The three ending achievements are mutually exclusive within one completed Story run.

Story Mode autosaves at each shift boundary and has no manual save and no shift select. Finishing the story converts that save to Post-Story Mode, so an ending cannot simply be reloaded. The route below does not rely on an unverified save backup.

Story Mode lasts 13 shifts. Treat the choice after Shift 12 about calling Clyde as the point of no return for that run.

Missables

The biggest missable is Sheriff Clyde Dawson. A real Clyde appears during normal customer traffic, and doppelganger versions of him also appear, in any part of the run. Never kill Clyde just because of his name.

The reliable tell is memory:

  • The real Clyde remembers you after your first meeting.
  • A doppelganger Clyde introduces himself again as if you have never met.

Killing the real Clyde is reported to void all three ending achievements for that run, because there is no one left to call.

Your pet also needs medicine before the final surgery, and every ending requires the pet to survive until the final vet visit. Always pay the first treatment. Paying every later medicine bill is the conservative route. Limited community reports suggest one later bill can be skipped and a second skip kills the pet and resets the game, so never skip more than one, and only skip one on Run 1 if the surgery money is tight.

There is no achievement tied to a difficulty setting and no New Game+ achievement. The main execution requirement is Relentless, which asks for a Hunt completed within 30 seconds. Everything else is manageable with normal Story progression and deliberate ending choices.

Current-patch warning: The September 1, 2026 update added the Chainsaw and made it required for Locked And Loaded. Launch-era checklists that omit it are outdated.

Route Rules

Use the first run for the strictest ending, True Ending, while also completing the weapon collection and monster-specific achievements. Use the second and third runs as fast ending replays.

Story shifts are randomized, so customer order and some Hunt enemies are not fixed. The route therefore uses verified shift windows instead of pretending there is a universal customer-by-customer sequence.

Keep these rules active on every run:

  • Verify customers before shooting. For achievement purposes, killing a confirmed doppelganger is always safer than gambling on a human.
  • Keep the real Clyde alive from Shift 1 onward. Use the memory tell above alongside your usual doppelganger checks.
  • Keep the pet alive. The first treatment costs $20 and later medicine bills cost $40. All of them come out of personal funds. Always pay the first bill. Paying every later bill is the safe default; skipping one is a limited-evidence option reserved for a tight Run 1 budget.
  • Build personal funds on Run 1. The $250 surgery comes on top of whatever earlier pet bills you pay. The number of $40 bills is not firmly established, so treat the surgery as $250 you still need after those bills, not as part of a fixed total. Weapons are bought with store money, which is separate from the personal funds that pay for the pet.
  • Prepare before a deliberate Hunt. When you let a doppelganger through, it will attack at the end of that shift, so set up weapons and traps before the shift turns hostile.
  • Take special-monster kills when they appear. If a required special monster shows up earlier than the window where it is discussed below, kill it immediately. The exact Hunt composition can vary.

If you accidentally kill the real Clyde or another important human, dying or quitting before the shift ends may return you to the start of that shift, because the autosave happens at the shift boundary. This is speculative recovery, not a confirmed fix. Avoid the mistake rather than rely on it.

Run 1 — True Ending and Main Completion

Money Plan for the True Ending

The True Ending fails if you arrive at the final vet visit short of $250 in personal funds, and the last shift only pays a modest amount. Treat money as a whole-run job from Shift 1.

Your personal income comes from:

  • your shift wage, which is only paid when the store meets its quota
  • a small share of store revenue above the quota
  • odd jobs

Selling to a customer is what generates revenue, so a doppelganger you kill before it pays adds nothing.

  • Ring up doppelgangers before killing them. Once you have confirmed a doppelganger, let it complete its purchase, then kill it before it leaves. The sale still counts toward revenue. Reports conflict on whether a doppelganger killed after paying still brings the entity at the end of the shift. Only do this on shifts where you are prepared for a Hunt, and always expect one on a Blood Moon.
  • Throw live rats in the dumpster. Each live rat is worth $3; a dead one is worth almost nothing.
  • Do the timed bonus tasks. The rat and cockroach events pay $20 each when completed in time.
  • Keep the store clean. Stains, trash, and dumped remains pay small amounts, and a clean, well-rated store sells more.
  • Spin the prize wheel after the shift ends. Wheel winnings go mostly to store revenue rather than straight to you, and dying restarts the shift and loses them.

Shifts 1-3 — Establish the Hunt Loop

Use the opening shifts to learn the customer-checking routine and deliberately create a Hunt while the threat pool is still manageable. Do not rush customer judgments for speed. The ending runs are short, and killing an important human costs far more time than a few extra seconds spent verifying someone.

First Blood

At the first clear opportunity, identify a customer as a doppelganger and kill it. The achievement unlocks when your first customer dies.

A human customer also satisfies the literal kill requirement, but it docks your pay. There is no completion reason to take that risk, so use a confirmed doppelganger.

Still Breathing

On Shift 1, deliberately let a confirmed doppelganger complete its visit. The entity then attacks at the end of that shift, which starts a Hunt. Blood Moon shifts also always bring the entity.

Prepare the store before the shift ends rather than stumbling into the Hunt with no defenses. Survive until the Hunt ends. Still Breathing unlocks when you survive your first Hunt.

Relentless

Pair this with the same Shift 1 Hunt. Shift 1 is the cleanest attempt because the entity has no accompanying add-ons yet.

  1. Pre-place any traps you have.
  2. Have your best available firearm ready.
  3. Attack the entity immediately.
  4. Keep clearing the encounter until the Hunt actually ends; do not stop after damaging the main monster.

Relentless unlocks when the Hunt is finished within 30 seconds. Co-op can make this easier through focus fire, but it is not required.

If the achievement does not unlock, continue the run rather than resetting a good True Ending attempt. You have two more Story clears, and Shift 1 of each is another clean attempt.

Locked And Loaded

Start working on the arsenal immediately and keep buying missing weapons whenever store funds allow. The achievement unlocks when the final required weapon has been acquired.

On the current September 2026 build, your completed weapon set must include:

  • Brick
  • Baseball Bat
  • Sledgehammer
  • Chainsaw
  • SMG
  • Shotgun
  • Flamethrower

The Pistol is available by default. Do not follow an older checklist that stops before the Chainsaw; the September 1 update explicitly added it to this achievement's requirement.

Use the in-store weapon categories as the final check and fill every missing melee weapon and Weapons Arsenal entry. Weapon spending uses the store economy rather than personal funds, so buying the arsenal does not consume the money needed for pet bills and the surgery.

Shifts 4-8 — Deliberate Hunt Cleanup

By now you should have better weapons and enough experience to trigger Hunts intentionally. If either special enemy below has not appeared naturally, allow confirmed doppelgangers through on shifts where you are prepared to fight.

Shrieking Dolls are reported from Shift 2 onward, so Silenced may already have unlocked. The Demented is reported from Shift 6 onward and is one of the rarer Hunt enemies, so save your forced Hunts for Freed until then.

Do not assume a specific shift guarantees either enemy. Hunt composition is variable, so take the kill whenever the target appears.

Silenced

Watch Hunts for a Shrieking Doll, the small crawling enemy that can accompany the main threat. Kill one as soon as it appears.

Silenced unlocks when the Shrieking Doll dies.

Freed

From Shift 6 onward, watch Hunts for a Demented. It only moves when you are not looking at it.

  1. Place a Bear Trap in its path.
  2. Look away so it advances.
  3. Let it walk into the trap.

Placing Bear Traps at the doors on Hunt shifts also works. A Demented that dies in a trap you never saw still counts.

Freed unlocks when the Demented dies. Keep at least one Bear Trap available when deliberately farming Hunts until this achievement is finished.

Shifts 9-10 — Force the Marionette Encounter

From Shift 9 onward, a Hunt can present the Jack-in-the-Box sequence associated with the Marionette. Once your run reaches this window, stop automatically preventing that threat if Last Performance is still missing.

Last Performance

During a Hunt, listen for the Jack-in-the-Box music and find the box. It can take some searching.

  1. Do not wind the box. Winding it resets the melody and stops the Marionette from emerging.
  2. Let the melody complete three times so the Marionette spawns.
  3. Kill it.

The Marionette floats, so Bear Traps, mines, and other ground traps do nothing to it. Kill it with sustained gunfire while you keep moving around the store. The Shotgun, SMG, and Flamethrower are the best tools. It speeds up as it takes damage, so keep your distance and don't stop firing.

Last Performance unlocks when the Marionette dies.

After Shift 10 — Protect the Surgery Fund

The story now establishes the pet's surgery requirement. The True Ending route needs $250 in personal funds at the final vet check, in addition to any pet bills you have already paid.

From here onward, prioritize clean shifts and reliable earnings. Do not confuse the store's purchasing money with your personal total. Continue buying any missing arsenal entries with store funds, but protect the personal balance needed for the surgery.

You do not need to grind a specific customer pattern. Product prices are now the same across the board on the current build, so earning the True Ending money depends much less on luck than it did at launch.

Keep using the money plan from the start of this run, and avoid needless human kills and penalties. Use the end-of-shift personal total to judge whether you are on pace.

Shifts 11-12 — Keep Clyde Alive

Continue normal Story progression and finish any remaining monster or arsenal achievement that appears naturally.

Keep applying the Clyde memory tell every time he appears. Never shoot the real version, because losing him destroys the ending plan.

After completing Shift 12, the story presents the critical call involving Clyde. For this run, do not call Clyde.

That preserves Clyde and leaves the pet's surgery bill for you to pay yourself. Once you make this choice, treat the branch as locked and continue to the final shift.

Shift 13 — Pay for the Surgery

Enter the final shift with the no-call branch intact and enough personal funds to reach at least $250 once the final payout is applied.

The finale ends with the Dentist, who cannot be killed. Shooting him starts a chase. Do not stop to fight; keep running forward through the obstacle route, jumping the gaps as you go. The jumps may not end the sequence; in the final chamber, circle the cover, stay away from the Dentist and the red hazards, and survive until the scripted collapse triggers the ending. If you die during the chase, you have to restart, so take the jumps carefully rather than quickly.

At the veterinarian, pay the $250 surgery bill from personal funds.

True Ending

True Ending unlocks when the ending confirms that both your Pet and Clyde remain alive.

The verified route is:

  • Keep the real Clyde alive throughout Story Mode.
  • Keep the pet alive through the earlier medicine bills.
  • Do not call Clyde after Shift 12.
  • Finish Shift 13 with at least $250 in personal funds.
  • Pay the $250 surgery bill.

If all five conditions are met, this run produces the True Ending.

Before starting Run 2, check that First Blood, Still Breathing, Silenced, Freed, Last Performance, Relentless, Locked And Loaded, and True Ending are all unlocked. Any missing combat achievement can be folded into either remaining Story replay without changing the ending route.

Run 2 — Grave Decision

Shifts 1-12 — Fast Replay

This run only needs the Clyde-sacrifice ending, plus any combat achievement you missed. You no longer need to maximize personal funds, but the pet still has to survive, so follow the same medicine rule.

Play the 12 shifts efficiently, meet the store requirements, and protect the real Clyde.

  • If Relentless is still missing, let a doppelganger through on Shift 1 and make another 30-second attempt.
  • If Silenced, Freed, Last Performance, or Locked And Loaded is still incomplete, clean it up in the same windows described in Run 1.

Do not kill the real Clyde. You still need him alive when the late-game choice appears.

After Shift 12 and the Finale

This time, call Clyde when the story presents the choice after Shift 12. Then complete Shift 13 and survive the Dentist chase in the finale, the same way as in Run 1.

The call itself decides this branch; your personal balance does not matter once you have called him. Do not waste time building a $250 personal reserve on this replay.

Grave Decision

Grave Decision unlocks when the ending confirms that Clyde has died in exchange for your Pet surviving.

If the achievement does not unlock, the first thing to check is whether the real Clyde was accidentally killed before the Shift 12 choice. The route requires him to survive long enough to be called into the final branch.

Run 3 — Empty Home

Shifts 1-10 — Keep the Run Cheap

The final ending requires Clyde to survive while the pet's surgery goes unpaid. The clean route is to finish below the $250 personal-funds requirement at the final vet check.

Keeping the run cheap does not mean ignoring the pet, because it has to survive until the final vet visit. Pay the first treatment and the later medicine bills as normal. Those payments also lower your personal total, which helps this route.

Do not spend this run chasing optional personal income. Complete what the store requires, avoid unnecessary penalties, and move through the shifts efficiently. Store weapon purchases do not lower your personal total, so they are not a way to dump excess surgery money.

Keep the real Clyde alive as usual.

Shifts 11-12 — Preserve Clyde, Not the Surgery Fund

Continue watching the personal total. The goal is to arrive at the finale unable to cover the $250 surgery bill.

After Shift 12, do not call Clyde. This keeps Clyde alive and sends the run to the personal-funds check after the final shift.

Shift 13 — Leave the Bill Unpaid

Finish Shift 13 with less than $250 in personal funds, and survive the Dentist chase as in Run 1. At the veterinarian you will be unable to pay for the surgery, so Clyde survives but the pet does not.

If you have accidentally built enough money to pay, do not count on rolling back. Story Mode only autosaves at shift boundaries and the ending converts the save to Post-Story Mode. The safe completion route is to keep the run below $250 before reaching this point. One report says you can decline the surgery even when you could afford it, but this is not confirmed, so do not rely on it.

Empty Home

Empty Home unlocks when the ending confirms that your Pet has died while Clyde remains alive.

The verified route is:

  • Keep the real Clyde alive throughout Story Mode.
  • Keep the pet alive through the earlier medicine bills.
  • Do not call Clyde after Shift 12.
  • Finish the final run below the $250 personal-funds requirement.
  • Complete the ending with the surgery unpaid.

This should be the final ending achievement. If the Run 1 combat cleanup was successful, it is also the final achievement needed for 1,000G.

Final Cleanup

If a Hunt Achievement Is Still Missing

Do not start another full completion run blindly. Use a fresh Story save and target the missing Hunt condition as early as its verified availability allows. Restarting a shift after dying gives you a different version of it, so a Hunt without the enemy you need can be re-rolled without advancing the story. This is reported, not guaranteed.

  • Relentless: let a doppelganger through on Shift 1, prepare traps and a strong firearm first, and keep attacking until the Hunt ends inside 30 seconds.
  • Silenced: keep starting prepared Hunts from around Shift 2 onward and kill a Shrieking Doll when one appears.
  • Freed: keep starting prepared Hunts from around Shift 6 onward and kill a Demented when one appears. Its appearance is variable, so a fixed shift number is not a reliable farm.
  • Last Performance: reach Shift 9 or later and trigger a Hunt. Find the Jack-in-the-Box and let its melody complete three times, then kill the Marionette.
