Before You Start

Sonic Frontiers has 40 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore on one shared Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S list. Every achievement belongs to the base game. The three free updates (Sights, Sounds, and Speed; Sonic's Birthday Bash; The Final Horizon) added modes and story content but no achievements, so Battle Rush, Cyber Space Challenge, Extreme difficulty, New Game+, and The Final Horizon's Another Story are all optional.

  • Online: nothing online or co-op is required.
  • Missables: none. After the first Titan you can travel between islands freely, and finishing the story drops you back into the open world.
  • Playthroughs: one.
  • Difficulty: no achievement depends on difficulty. You can change between Easy, Normal, and Hard at any time in the options, and A Land at Peace unlocks on any of them.
  • Unobtainable status (as of 2026-10-13): none of the 40 is CURRENTLY CONFIRMED UNOBTAINABLE.
  • Biggest grinds: maxing all four stats and finishing every Challenge, Portal, Side Story, guardian, and enemy type on each island. Fishing with Big turns the stat grind into a short session.

Difficulty, Saves, and Island Travel

Play on Easy unless you want a challenge. Titans, guardians, and Cyber Space stages only need to be beaten, and lowering the difficulty for a tough fight is perfectly safe.

The game keeps one autosave plus manual save slots. As soon as you arrive on Ouranos Island, make a separate manual save and leave it untouched until every Ouranos achievement unlocks. This is a preventative precaution against the Ouranos achievement issue described in the final section, not a proven fix.

To change islands, open the map and press Y. The game never points this out. It works once Giganto is beaten and is blocked during some scenes and combat.

How the Route Works

Each island has three island achievements (Explorer, Memories, Expert) and contributes to the account-wide grinds. The route clears each island before you trigger its Titan. You could come back later with island travel, but cleaning up in place avoids repeat trips. Memory Tokens are island-specific and never carry over, so spend each island's tokens there.

Three things run across the whole game. Introduce them early and let them progress naturally:

  • Threats Identified: defeat every guardian type. Collect the Portal Gear each guardian drops as you go. It's needed for portals anyway, and it rules out one reported cause of a guardian not registering.
  • Easy Prey: defeat every regular enemy type, including Cyber Space enemies. The game has no tracker for this one, so the route sends you through every Cyber Space stage and to the rare open-world enemies. In each stage, actually defeat the named enemy types. Reaching the goal alone doesn't count.
  • Purple Coins and fishing: Big's fishing spots trade Purple Coins for tokens. Tokens buy Seeds, Koco, Memory Tokens, Skill Pieces, Portal Gears, and Vault Keys. This is the main shortcut in the game.

Kronos Island

Cyber Space 1-1 and Arrival

The game opens in Cyber Space 1-1. Just finish it the first time. You can re-enter its portal on Kronos for free once you arrive, and it is the best stage for both Cyber Space achievements.

Each Cyber Space stage has four missions: reach the goal, beat the S-rank time, finish with the target ring count, and collect all five red star rings. Missions save individually, so they do not have to be done in one run.

Superior Ranking

The achievement unlocks when you finish any Cyber Space stage under its S-rank time. Return to the 1-1 portal near the start of Kronos and run it focusing only on speed: boost through, skip rings, and ignore the red star rings. Avoid 1-2, which has the reputation of being the hardest S rank in the game.

Perfect Run

The achievement unlocks when all four missions are complete in a single Cyber Space stage. Keep using 1-1. After your S-rank run, do a slow run for the red star rings and the ring target, since time no longer matters. Any one stage is enough. You do not need all missions everywhere.

Early Kronos Tutorials

Follow the story's tutorials. Sonic learns the homing attack, fights the first guardian (the Ninja), and is introduced to the Cyloop and Skill Pieces. Smash everything breakable as you go.

The Journey Begins

Story achievement. It unlocks once the Kronos tutorials are done, around the time you get your first Chaos Emerald.

Unknown Threat

Story-related. It unlocks when you beat the Ninja guardian during the tutorials. Pick up the Portal Gear it drops. This is also your first entry toward Threats Identified.

Swath of Destruction

Destroy 100 breakable objects. Crates, rocks, and objects in Cyber Space all count, and this comes naturally within the first hours.

Speed Demon

A Power Boost activates when you hold the maximum number of rings. A short power-up effect plays, and boosting from that state is a Power Boost. The cap starts at 400 rings and rises with Ring level, so grab this before you spend any Koco on Ring level. Cyloop a ring-rich area or chain ring lines until you hit the cap, then boost.

Elder Koco Encounter

Heading toward the Red Chaos Emerald vault, you reach ruins south of it with an Elder Koco. Talk to him to unlock this. Elder Koco raises Speed and Ring level in exchange for Koco.

After the Red Emerald

Taking the Red Emerald triggers a scene with Sage and the first sight of the Titan. Sonic wakes in the northeast of Kronos next to Hermit Koco. From here, Kronos opens up. This is the window for the side systems, before you work toward Giganto.

Hermit Koco Encounter

Forced. It unlocks when you talk to Hermit Koco after the Red Emerald scene. He takes Red Seeds of Power and Blue Seeds of Defense, and he can trade Ring levels for Speed levels and back.

Combo Convert

Buy Phantom Rush from the skill tree. It is the second skill and costs 3 skill points. Fill the combo meter by attacking without the combo breaking. When the meter turns purple, Phantom Rush is active. Keep attacking so the Phantom Rush attack actually lands, and the achievement unlocks. It must be done in the open world, not in the training simulator.

Combo Crackerjack

Activate Phantom Rush 50 times outside the training simulator. On Xbox this shows no progress until it unlocks, so count it yourself and don't assume it is broken.

Farm it on the Asura guardian on Kronos. Attack its legs, which never interrupt your combo. Let the meter drain completely, then refill it, and repeat until the achievement unlocks. Avoid killing the Asura during the farm. Defeat it afterward for Threats Identified.

Koco Leader

Collect 200 Koco. The count is cumulative, so spending them at Elder Koco doesn't reset it. Free the Koco groups you pass and this unlocks during normal play on Kronos or Ares.

Big Encounter

Big's fishing portal (a purple portal with a fish icon on the map) is on the western peninsula of Kronos. It needs no Portal Gears and appears on the map once Challenges reveal that area. Enter and finish the fishing tutorial by landing a catch.

Angler's Club

The achievement unlocks when one fishing spot reaches 100% catches. The completion percentage shows at the portal entrance. Kronos is the cheapest spot at 1 Purple Coin per cast. Its catch list has roughly 30 to 32 entries, including fish, junk, treasure boxes, and the two Koco scrolls. Catches cycle without repeating until the list is complete, so expect around 32 casts.

Purple Coins are found around the island, but a Starfall is the fast source. If you are short, keep exploring and return after the first Starfall.

The scrolls you fish up unlock fast travel to Elder and Hermit Koco. The tokens you earn here are worth saving for Memory Tokens.

Celestial Rain

Starfalls happen periodically at night, sometimes several in-game days apart, and can't be forced. The first can happen on Kronos. A cutscene plays and the achievement unlocks immediately. If it hasn't happened by the end of Kronos, it will come naturally on a later island.

Ticket to Tranquility

Earn 100 Purple Coins. During a Starfall, collect the falling star fragments. Each fragment is a slot-machine spin, and three matching symbols pay out a large number of coins. One Starfall usually covers this on its own.

Kronos Cleanup Before Giganto

Do everything below before taking the final Kronos Emerald from the Titan. After Giganto the game sends you straight to Ares. You can return with island travel, but finishing here saves the trip. Kronos is also where you should start fully clearing Cyber Space stages for Easy Prey. Five of its open-world enemy types live here: Soldier, Bubble, Banger (the wheel enemy, parry its charge), Shell (attacks bounce off, so Cyloop it), and Cyclone (the floating tornado enemy).

Kronos Island Explorer

The achievement unlocks when every Challenge on Kronos is done and the map is fully revealed. Challenges are the numbered ? puzzles. Each one reveals part of the map, which in turn shows the next ones. Kronos has about 25, all available without story gating. Some are night-only and show a moon icon. Wait for night or come back after dark.

Kronos Island Memories

Repair all seven Cyber Space portals on Kronos with Portal Gears. They need seven gears in total, and 1-1 and 1-7 are free. Portal 1-7 is out of reach at first. Activate the glowing pillars and switches near it to spawn a chain of Grind Rails, then ride the rails up to the portal. Gears drop from guardians, chests, enemies, and Cyloop digging. Repairing is the requirement. Clearing a stage is not.

Safest route: also activate Big's fishing portal on the western peninsula, since it isn't confirmed whether fishing portals count. If it asks for a Portal Gear, spend one. Then play every Kronos stage at least once for Easy Prey. Nine of the ten Cyber Space enemy types are here: Motobug in 1-1, Eggrobo in 1-2, Spiny in 1-3, Buzzer, Chopper, Crabmeat, and Buzz Bomber in 1-6, and the G.U.N. helicopter and tank in 1-7.

Kronos Island Expert

The achievement unlocks when all Side Stories on Kronos are viewed. On Kronos these are Amy's optional Memory Token conversations plus Sage's conversations. Use the map icons and filters to find them. Memory Tokens (hearts on Kronos) come from platforming routes, chests, and fishing (5 fishing tokens each), and they don't carry over to the next island, so spend them all here.

Threats Identified

Kronos has four guardian types: Ninja, Tower, Asura, and Squid. Guardians show as crossed red swords on the map. A blue star above a guardian's health bar means that individual guardian is already defeated. Kronos has two Squids, but one kill covers the type. The Tower guardian is also needed to reach the Silver Emerald and gives a gear for portal 1-2.

Giganto

When Kronos is clean, climb Giganto for the last Emerald and fight it as Super Sonic.

The Beginning

Story achievement. It unlocks when you defeat Giganto. The game moves you straight to Ares Island.

Ares Island

Arrival and Freeing Knuckles

Ares starts with its stage portals open, so repair them as you collect gears instead of saving them. Knuckles is caged in the south and needs Ares Memory Tokens. The Blue Emerald triggers the Wyvern chase. Later beats include draining the pond with the rocket and cannon and the crane puzzle that opens the route to the Titan.

The Ares fishing spot is on a separate island to the far northeast, reached through an underground structure. Casts cost more here than on Kronos, so leave heavy fishing for Ouranos and only buy Memory Tokens here if you're short.

Some Ares Challenges open only after story progress. Do the available ones, then sweep the rest during cleanup.

Ares Cleanup Before Wyvern

Ares adds four regular enemy types for Easy Prey:

  • Hopper, the giant spring that leaps to crush you.
  • Jellyfish, which floats up and releases small enemies. Homing-attack up those to reach it.
  • Sniper, the stationary turret that shields when you get close. Bait the guard, then attack.
  • Capture, a hovering craft that steals a Chaos Emerald if you approach while carrying one and flies off leaving a blue trail. Grind the trail and Stomp it to destroy it and get the Emerald back. If it escapes, it shows up on the map as an objective. One sits on the slim path by the water toward the upper right of Ares, on the way to the fishing spot. It also appears on Chaos and Ouranos.

Ares Island Explorer

Finish all of Ares's Challenges (about 29). M-044 is night-only. If any ? Challenge stays locked, advance the story and return before Wyvern.

Ares Island Memories

Repair all seven Ares stage portals. They need eight gears in total. Safest route: activate the fishing portal in the far northeast too, and spend a gear on it if asked. Play every Ares stage once for Easy Prey.

Ares Island Expert

View all of Knuckles's optional Memory Token conversations and Sage's Ares conversations. Use the map filter to confirm nothing is left.

Threats Identified

Ares has four guardian types: Shark (the southernmost, half-buried in sand at first), Strider, Sumo (on a separate island north of 2-7), and Tank (north of 2-6).

Wyvern

Ancient Defiance

Story achievement. It unlocks when you defeat Wyvern. Climb the tower, ride its lightning trails, and then finish the Super Sonic fight. The game moves you to Chaos Island.

Chaos Island

Arrival and Freeing Tails

Tails is caged at the southernmost point and needs Chaos Memory Tokens. As on Ares, all stage portals are open from the start. The Emeralds here involve several minigames: the hacking minigame for Red, Fixing the Cannon for Green, Bridge the Gap for Cyan, and the pinball table (5,000,000 points) for the purple Emerald. The fishing spot is on its own island to the southeast.

The Eagle (the large bird enemy) is one of the most commonly missed Easy Prey enemies. Get above it or onto high ground and homing attack it.

Chaos Cleanup Before Knight

Chaos Island Explorer

Finish all of Chaos's Challenges (about 24). M-070 through M-072 sit beyond the drawbridge, which only opens through story progress, so finish them once it's down. M-071 is also night-only.

Chaos Island Memories

Repair all seven Chaos stage portals. They need seven gears in total. Safest route: activate the fishing portal on the southeast island too, and spend a gear on it if asked. Play every stage once. 3-7 contains the Grabber enemy, which counts for Easy Prey.

Chaos Island Expert

View all of Tails's optional Memory Token conversations and Sage's Chaos conversations. A later Sage conversation only appears after the pinball and volcano story sequence, so recheck the Sage filter after that before leaving for Knight.

Threats Identified

Chaos has four new guardian types: Spider (bottom-right of the main island), Shinobi (south of 3-1), Fortress (near 3-7), and Excavator (left of 3-4). It also has another Squid on the 3-5 island. Squid is the same type you beat on Kronos, but this one is often named when Threats Identified doesn't unlock, so defeat it too as a precaution.

Knight

Futile Resistance

Story achievement. It unlocks when you defeat Knight. The story then moves to Rhea Island.

Rhea Island

The Six Towers

Rhea has no achievements of its own. It has no Challenges, portals, Side Stories, guardians, or fishing. Climb and deactivate the six towers to advance. From the third tower on, you'll meet the Balloon, a water-filled creature that swallows Sonic and starts drowning him. Stomp about three times from inside to destroy it. It counts for Easy Prey and also appears on Ouranos.

Ouranos Island

Arrival and the Push Through Ouranos

Ouranos is the largest island and holds the final stretch. The first six Chaos Emeralds here come from vaults that need Vault Keys, and the story gives you the seventh. So clearing Cyber Space stages 4-1 to 4-9 early pays off for both story and Easy Prey. Side Stories here are Sage's only. Part of the island, including portals 4-4 and 4-5, opens only after Sage's quest chain extends the bridge. Ouranos has two fishing spots, and they are the best in the game: the highest token payouts and no purchase caps.

Stay in the original story. Since The Final Horizon update, a large ring near the Ouranos starting area leads into Another Story, a separate Ouranos campaign with its own save. Another Story isn't needed for any of the 40 achievements, and progress made there doesn't carry back to your original campaign save. If you enter it by mistake, return to the title screen and load your original campaign save.

As soon as you arrive, before repairing any portals or solving puzzles, make a manual save in its own slot. Keep it until every Ouranos achievement has unlocked. This is a precaution against the reported Ouranos achievement failures. Restoring it is not a confirmed fix.

Near portal 4-1 is the Wolf pack, the most commonly missed Easy Prey enemy. The wolves trap you in a ring. Parry to break it, then homing attack them, and repeat if they regroup.

Ouranos Cleanup Before the White Emerald

The White Emerald (the sixth) starts the final boss sequence, so finish everything below first. Ouranos Challenges and portals open in stages as the story progresses. The main gates are Sage's bridge extension, which opens the 4-4 and 4-5 area, and Part 2 of the hacking minigame, which opens "The Telepathic Map" side story. If something is locked, push the story forward but stop before the White Emerald vault.

Ouranos Island Explorer

Finish all of Ouranos's Challenges (about 27). M-086 and M-098 are night-only.

Ouranos Island Memories

Repair all nine Ouranos stage portals. They need 11 gears in total. Portals 4-4 and 4-5 are unreachable until Sage's quest chain extends the bridge.

Portal 4-7 is behind a locked door. Open it by Cyloop-ing the wind chimes in the order centre, left, right, then repair the portal in person. Fast travel to 4-7 can skip the door, and skipping it is reported to block this achievement.

Safest route: activate both Ouranos fishing portals (southwest and southeast) as well, spending a gear if either asks. Play every Ouranos stage once.

Ouranos Island Expert

View all of Sage's Ouranos conversations with the Sage map filter. "The Telepathic Map" stays locked until you finish Part 2 of the hacking minigame. The rest only need Memory Tokens. Some cost large amounts of Ouranos Memory Tokens. Fishing here is the quickest way to cover them.

Expert Historian

The achievement unlocks when every Side Story on all four story islands is viewed. It should unlock with Ouranos Island Expert if the other three islands are done.

Threats Identified

Ouranos has six guardian types:

  • Red Pillar, near the start
  • Caterpillar, on a hill east of 4-2
  • Kunoichi, near a fishing spot
  • Ghost, north of 4-2, which only appears after you interact with a purple statue
  • Silver Hammer, west of 4-3
  • Master Ninja, the southernmost guardian on the island to the northeast

That makes 18 distinct guardian types across the game: Kronos 4, Ares 4, Chaos 4, and Ouranos 6, plus the precautionary Chaos Squid. The achievement unlocks when the last new type is defeated.

Easy Prey

The achievement unlocks when you have defeated every regular enemy type at least once. The commonly cited total is 22 types: 12 in the open world and 10 in Cyber Space. Sources disagree on whether the Cyber Space enemies are strictly required, so treat this as the safest inclusive checklist. Guardians don't count, variants of one type count once, and the game has no tracker:

  • Kronos: Soldier, Bubble, Banger, Shell, Cyclone.
  • Ares: Hopper, Jellyfish, Sniper, Capture (also on Chaos and Ouranos).
  • Chaos: Eagle, the large bird that roams Chaos Island (it can also be ridden to reach small islands).
  • Rhea / Ouranos: Balloon, inside Rhea's third, fourth, and fifth towers and also on Ouranos.
  • Ouranos: Wolf pack near portal 4-1.
  • Cyber Space: Motobug (1-1), Eggrobo (1-2), Spiny (1-3), Buzzer, Chopper, Crabmeat, and Buzz Bomber (1-6), G.U.N. helicopter and tank (1-7), Grabber (3-7).

Finishing a stage isn't enough: deliberately defeat at least one of each listed Cyber Space enemy. It isn't confirmed whether Chopper and the G.U.N. helicopter and tank are actually required, so defeat them in 1-6 and 1-7 anyway. The Wolf pack is usually the last one, so expect the achievement here at the latest. If it doesn't unlock, the usual culprits are Capture, Eagle, Balloon, or a skipped Kronos stage.

Fishing for Stats and Skills

Do the stat grind here on Ouranos, before the final boss. Wait for a night Starfall and spin for Purple Coins, then spend them at one of Ouranos's fishing spots. Casts cost 8 coins here, but catches pay far more tokens than on earlier islands, and Ouranos has no purchase limits.

Shop prices to plan around: Red and Blue Seeds 2 tokens each, 20 Koco 3 tokens, 50 Skill Pieces 1 token, and Memory Tokens 5. Treasure boxes give golden tickets, which can buy any shop item.

Herculean Hedgehog

Raise Power to level 99 by giving Red Seeds of Power to Hermit Koco.

Hardened Hedgehog

Raise Defense to level 99 by giving Blue Seeds of Defense to Hermit Koco.

Hearty Hedgehog

Raise Ring level to 99 by giving Koco to Elder Koco. Elder Koco supports bulk upgrades, so you don't have to sit through one animation per level.

Hypersonic Hedgehog

Raise Speed to level 99 at Elder Koco. Hermit Koco's Ring-to-Speed swap is useful if one stat is close to maxed and the other isn't. Plan on buying Koco in large batches. Expect a few thousand Koco across Speed and Ring, minus whatever you've already spent.

Unrivaled Aptitude

The achievement unlocks when the whole skill tree is bought. It needs 224 skill points total. Most players have nearly enough from normal play by now. Skill Pieces fill the skill-point gauge, and each full gauge gives one skill point. Top up with 50-piece Skill Piece bundles from Big, or with Cyloop dig circles and air tricks off a stationary spring.

Final Boss

Once every Ouranos achievement above has unlocked, make a second manual save in a different slot, and don't overwrite your Ouranos arrival backup. It's an optional safeguard for coming back after the credits. Then take the White Emerald. If you want the full final fight against The End, switch to Hard before taking the White Emerald. On Easy and Normal the last battle is a short quick-time sequence. Both versions unlock the ending achievements.

Hope Across Ages

Story achievement. It unlocks when you defeat Supreme, the Ouranos Titan.

A Land at Peace

Story achievement. It unlocks when you defeat the final threat and finish the main story, on any difficulty.

Post-Game Cleanup and Troubleshooting

Returning After the Credits

After the credits, load your save to return to the Ouranos open world, set just before the final Emerald, with your progress kept. From there, island travel lets you finish anything left on any island. Arcade Mode also unlocks on the main menu as a Cyber Space stage select. No other post-game mode is needed.

If an Achievement Won't Unlock

Since the Sonic's Birthday Bash update, the game has an island status display that summarizes progress on each island, including guardians and portals. Use it to see what's left after returning to an earlier island. It doesn't track Easy Prey enemies.

  • Ouranos Island Expert, Ouranos Island Memories, or Ouranos Island Explorer (HISTORICALLY REPORTED BUG): Ouranos island achievements have been reported failing to unlock even with everything done, including Ouranos Island Expert when Expert Historian had already unlocked. There is no confirmed fix. Load a different island and come back, recheck the map filters for anything missed, and redo a remaining action if possible. Restoring the manual save from your arrival on Ouranos and repeating the steps may be worth trying, but it is a speculative recovery, not a confirmed one.
  • Threats Identified: Check the Chaos Squid first, then collect any Portal Gear a guardian left behind. Starfalls respawn enemies, which can help with refights.
  • Easy Prey: Recheck the Ouranos wolves, the Chaos Eagle, the Balloon, the Capture, and Kronos stages 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-6, and 1-7. Guardians don't count toward it.
  • Starfall without a slot machine: a free update added a setting that turns the Starfall slot machine on or off. If a Starfall arrives without the slot machine, check that setting is on before farming Purple Coins.
  • Combo Crackerjack: It has no progress display on Xbox. Keep activating Phantom Rush on the Asura's legs until it unlocks.
