Completion Plan

Tell Me Why has 30 Xbox achievements worth 1,500 Gamerscore across the shared Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows Xbox Play Anywhere list. Chapter 1 contains 10 achievements for 500G, Chapter 2 contains 10 for 500G, and Chapter 3 contains 10 for 500G. Xbox lists Chapter 1 as the base game and Chapters 2 and 3 as add-on packs, so make sure all three chapters are installed.

As verified on 2026-09-15, all 30 achievements are obtainable. There are no CURRENTLY CONFIRMED UNOBTAINABLE or CURRENTLY CONFIRMED DISCONTINUED achievements. Everything is single-player and can be earned without co-op or multiplayer. There are no difficulty-related achievements.

The safest practical route is two story passes. On the first pass, make the bond-strengthening choices in this guide, collect all 13 Book of Goblins figures, earn every miscellaneous achievement, solve the attic puzzles, and set up Tyler's epilogue. On the second pass, use Restart Progress from Chapter 1 and make the bond-weakening choices plus the Alyson-epilogue choices. Skip cutscenes and already-completed optional interactions to make the second run much faster.

The epilogue and the twin bond are two separate systems. Which twin's epilogue you get is decided by two Chapter 3 choices. Tyler's epilogue happens if you tell Eddy the truth in Paternity Test OR believe Tom's memory at the dock in Veni, Vidi, Vecchi. Alyson's epilogue needs both: you do not tell Eddy AND you stick to the twins' memory. No other choice, including the panic-attack breathing exercise, affects the epilogue. The bond achievements depend on the running tally of bond-marked consequences across all three chapters. These are the consequences shown with a star icon (whole or broken) on each chapter's consequence screen in the Chapters menu, and that screen is the place to check your bond progress. Either epilogue can occur with either bond state; this guide pairs Tyler with the strong bond and Alyson with the weak bond only so that two runs cover all four achievements.

Nothing outside the ending and bond outcomes is permanently missable because scene replay is available. From the main menu, Chapters → Replay → Replay in isolation mode lets you clean up miscellaneous achievements and collectibles without replacing your story choices. For alternate endings or bond changes, use Restart progress from this scene instead. Isolation mode does not carry your changed choices into later scenes.

Critical route warning: do not use Isolation mode for the second-run ending achievements. Use Restart Progress so each weakening choice becomes the active story state.
Collectible warning: there are 13 Book of Goblins figures. The first collectible, The Crafty Goblins, is a mandatory pair found during Long Time No See. The hidden-figure achievement begins with the next figure, The Mad Hunter.

Chapter 1: Homecoming

Long Time No See

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Crafty Goblins — Chapter 1, Long Time No See: Alyson's half in the box under her bed, Tyler's half on his desk. Mandatory.

As Alyson, look under the bed and take the box to obtain her half of The Crafty Goblins. When control switches to Tyler, take the matching goblin from his desk. Together these form collectible 1/13.

Continue until Tyler leaves Fireweed Residential Center.

Rear View Mirror

This unlocks automatically when Tyler leaves Fireweed Residential Center and the opening sequence ends.

The Crossing

For the strong-bond first run, accept Eddy's ring when Alyson gives it to Tyler. This is one of the documented bond consequences and strengthens the twins' relationship.

Continue to the Ronan property.

A Big Wooden House

Collectibles 2 collectibles
  • The Mad Hunter — Chapter 1, A Big Wooden House: crawlspace, go right at the first fork (blue pipe and toy truck) to the dead end.

  • The Wise Princess — Chapter 1, A Big Wooden House: on the floor to the right of Mary-Ann's bed.

Before entering the house, clear the two easy optional achievements outside.

This Is Despicable

Walk around the shed beside the Ronan house and find its locked side door. Try to open that same locked door three times in a row. The achievement unlocks after the repeated attempts.

We Need To Talk

Take the path down toward the lake and sit on the bench with your twin. Go through both optional conversation topics before standing up. The achievement unlocks after taking the time to talk. If you miss it, a second chance comes on the locker-room bench in To Serve and Protect.

Return to the house and follow the story until you obtain the screwdriver and can remove the boards covering the crawlspace.

Inside the crawlspace, at the first fork (blue pipe and toy truck), go right, the way Alyson says not to go, to reach a dead end with The Mad Hunter, collectible 2/13.

One For The Collection

The Mad Hunter is the first hidden Book of Goblins figure and triggers this achievement when collected. The mandatory Crafty Goblins pair from the opening does not trigger it.

Continue through the crawlspace and enter the Ronan house.

Homecoming

This unlocks automatically when the twins successfully enter the Ronan house.

Explore until you reach Mary-Ann's locked bedroom door. For the strong-bond route, solve the door puzzle rather than forcing it. Set the symbols from left to right to Moose, Bear, Pelican.

Crafty Goblins

The achievement unlocks when Mary-Ann's bedroom door opens after entering Moose, Bear, Pelican.

Inside Mary-Ann's room, pick up The Wise Princess beside the right side of the bed. This is collectible 3/13.

Continue the story.

Rashomon

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Pious Pelican — Chapter 1, Rashomon: cabinet in Tessa's office, with the 2004 notebook.

When the twins compare their memories of Tessa's argument with Mary-Ann, choose Tyler's memory for the strong-bond route.

Do not finish the Tessa confrontation until you have gathered the evidence needed for the full confession.

Full Confession

After Tessa arrives at the store, complete the memory sequence near the cleaning products. Then speak with Tessa and ask about Your Fight With Mary-Ann....

Speak with Tom and choose Remember That One Song?. View the new memories that become available around the store.

In Tessa's office, read the second email from the Alliance for Traditional Families. Open the office cabinet and read the notebook labeled 2004, including Mary-Ann's entry. Pick up The Pious Pelican from the same cabinet for collectible 4/13.

Return to Tessa and choose the evidence sequence We remembered details... → October 2004 → You told her about the camp → The Virtue Seekers Youth Camp. The achievement unlocks when the confrontation resolves and Tessa gives the full account; the notification may not appear until the twins drive away from the store.

Continue to the police station.

To Serve and Protect

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Ice King — Chapter 1, To Serve and Protect: back of the interrogation room, beside the filing cabinet.

Follow the story inside the station. After getting access to the break room, make the coffee and view the memories in the break room and the interrogation room about the twins' childhood statement.

Bound To A Lie

This unlocks when the twins remember the night they agreed to lie about what happened.

Before leaving the restricted area, enter the interrogation room and look behind the cabinets or stacked boxes at the back for The Ice King, collectible 5/13.

Eddy gives you the break-room keys; the computer login is a separate puzzle. The password hint is on a memo in Dee's locker and on the Iditarod winners poster at Dee's desk. Go to the reception area and use the police computer.

Hacking 101

Select user D. WILSON and enter SALEM as the password. Exit the computer after logging in; the achievement unlocks from successfully accessing it.

When the argument with Eddy occurs later in the scene, side with Tyler for another strong-bond consequence.

Blood Oath

Finish the remaining Chapter 1 story scenes.

Chapter One

This unlocks automatically when Chapter 1 is completed.

Chapter 2: Family Secrets

Ahoy Goblins!

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Big Frog — Chapter 2, Ahoy Goblins!: stuck under the dining table.

During the house-cleaning sequence, several achievements and one collectible are available before the story moves on.

Kick Me

While you are marking furniture with sticky notes, wait until Tyler is in the kitchen looking into a cupboard. Approach him from behind and place a sticky note on his back. The achievement unlocks from successfully sticking the note on him.

Look underneath the table in the living or dining area and pick up The Big Frog, collectible 6/13.

After clearing the coffee table, interact with the moo box beneath it repeatedly instead of leaving it alone.

Moo'd Changer

Keep activating the moo box until Tyler finally admits it is funny. The achievement unlocks at that response.

Later, when the Book of Goblins character-matching scene begins, assign the three characters as follows: Pelican = Tessa, Moose = Eddy, Bear = Sam. Confirm the answer when Tyler asks if you are sure.

Guess Who?

This unlocks after confirming the correct Pelican, Moose, and Bear character matches.

Continue through the barn sequence. When the twins disagree over the memory there, choose Tyler's memory for the strong-bond route.

Compass and Northstar

During the realtor phone call, refuse the immediate house showing. This is the strong-bond consequence for this scene.

Continue along the story route until the twins revisit the old tree and can correct its graffiti.

Arborglyph

Interact with the old carving when prompted and correct the graffiti. The achievement unlocks when the correction is complete.

Cold Case

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Stalwart Moose — Chapter 2, Cold Case: Eddy's desk drawer at the police station.

At the police station, search Eddy's desk drawer before leaving his office area and take The Stalwart Moose, collectible 7/13.

Continue until you reach the archive room. The door code is 6041.

State Your Emergency

Inside the archive, read file 05-R68653 on the left side of the central shelving. Use the computer and search Mary-Ann Ronan with March 1st 2005, then open the resulting crime report.

Read file 05-R61889 on the same shelving area. Then read the autopsy report, 05-R62766, which is already open on the central bench. When Eddy comes to the door, answer that you are coming out and say you are using the bathroom, then keep searching. Return to the computer and search the tags Ronan Children + Recording (the March 1st 2005 date tag with Ronan Children also surfaces it). Open and listen to the twins' 911 recording. The achievement unlocks from finding and playing the call.

Continue investigating the archive instead of leaving immediately. Each document unlocks new search tags. Work through this order:

  1. Search Mary-Ann Ronan + Ronan Children for the court order, 05-R63325 (left side of the central shelves).
  2. Search Mary-Ann Ronan + Eddy Brown for the incident report, 2005-201546 (back left, by the radiator).
  3. Search Tessa Vecchi + Ronan Children for the hospital discharge, 05-R68-MISC (back right).
  4. Search Child Services + Recording and play the Child Services recording.
  5. Search Eddy Brown + Child Services and open the OCS fax receipt, 05-01COM-EBR (back right, near the hospital file).

Cold Case

This unlocks after you find the OCS fax receipt 05-01COM-EBR, the end of the archive evidence chain. The pop can be delayed until the end of the chapter.

When confronting Eddy afterward, there are two bond choices. For the strong-bond route, choose Let's talk in private at the start, then We could get there with time when Eddy offers to make it up to you.

Plushy Fight!

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Mangy Muskrat — Chapter 2, Plushy Fight!: store back room, on the cabinet in the sofa and fridge corner.

In the store's back room, pick up The Mangy Muskrat near the storage area by the refrigerator and plush stock. This is collectible 8/13.

Before starting the plushie battle, inspect all three classic posters in the storage room: the poster on the wall behind Michael, the panda poster, and the wine-glass Red Queen poster at the far side of the room.

Remember Strange Vampyr

The achievement unlocks after all three classic posters have been examined.

When the plushie fight starts, stay in cover and wait for Michael to expose himself. Pop out, aim, and hit him. Repeat until you have landed three hits.

Sharp Shooter

Win the plushie battle by hitting Michael three times before he wins the exchange. The achievement unlocks when the battle is won.

After the battle, when you sit and talk with Michael on the sofa, avoid You're swell too on the strong-bond run; that line weakens the bond.

Last Rites

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Very Old Beaver — Chapter 2, Last Rites: behind Carol Brown's gravestone.

At the cemetery, the totem memory comes first: choose Alyson's memory for the strong-bond route. Then take the path to the area with Carol Brown's grave. Look behind the gravestone and collect The Very Old Beaver, collectible 9/13.

Continue to Mary-Ann's resting place and finish the cemetery scene with Tessa.

Rest In Peace

This unlocks when the cemetery sequence concludes and the twins make peace with Mary-Ann.

Scorched Earth

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Moon Hag — Chapter 2, Scorched Earth: shelves in the small side room off the burned barn.

After the barn fire is extinguished and you can search the burned structure, enter the small side room where the earlier tool was found. Pick up The Moon Hag from the open shelf for collectible 10/13.

At the dock memory later in this scene, choose Just one more time for the strong-bond route.

Continue through the remaining investigation. No additional achievement-specific detour is required here.

The Stranger

Finish Chapter 2.

Chapter Two

This unlocks automatically when Chapter 2 is completed.

Chapter 3: Inheritance

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Secret Keeper — Chapter 3, Like Mother, Like Daughter: coin box in Eddy's bedroom; inspect it, take the coin beside Alyson's wallet in the living room, then insert it.

As Alyson, enter Eddy's bedroom and inspect the locked coin-operated box on the shelf first. Then go to the living room, take the coin beside Alyson's wallet, and return to the box. Insert the coin and collect The Secret Keeper, collectible 11/13.

When Michael visits, tell him about the memories and choose That could work when he offers to go to Tyler. This strengthens the bond.

Continue the story until the police-station lunch sequence.

Paternity Test

The phone breathing exercise during the panic attack is not a choice; complete it however you like. Later, when speaking with Eddy, choose That's not true, then I killed Mary-Ann. Telling Eddy the truth sets up Tyler's epilogue and is counted as a positive choice.

At the police station, after dropping off the file upstairs, go to the break room. During lunch, keep watching Dee outside. When the prompt changes from looking to eavesdropping, listen to her conversation. When she later asks you to guess the identity of the Mailbox Bandit, answer An animal?.

Mailbox Bandit

The achievement unlocks after correctly identifying the Mailbox Bandit as an animal. If the prompt does not appear, replay Paternity Test in Isolation mode and make sure you eavesdrop before Dee joins you.

Continue the story.

Adrift

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Old Bear — Chapter 3, Adrift: drawer of Sam's upstairs desk, before sitting down with him.

At Sam's workshop, keep talking until he returns to the engine and mentions the problem. Open the cabinet by the sink, take the red can of penetrating or rust oil, and give it to Sam.

Just One Fix

The achievement unlocks when you give Sam the oil and help him continue the engine repair.

Later, when Sam takes you upstairs, do not sit down with him immediately. Open the desk drawer beside his computer and take The Old Bear, collectible 12/13.

Then sit with Sam and complete the photo and conversation sequence.

Are You My Daddy?

This unlocks automatically at the end of Adrift after the twins learn the truth about Sam's relationship to them.

Chosen Family

During the fishing trip with Michael, watch the rod even while dialogue is playing. There are three fishing opportunities. Michael's conversation about Alyson happens after the second fish, and the third bite follows it, so keep watching the rod during that conversation. Respond to every bite, keep the line in the indicated sweet spot, and reel each fish in successfully.

Fish all the Fish

Catch all three fish during the scene. Missing even one opportunity prevents the achievement on that attempt, so replay Chosen Family in Isolation mode if necessary.

For the strong-bond route, when Michael asks about Alyson, choose I pushed her too hard, then I didn't really think about that.

Princess and Tiara

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • The Gold Lady — Chapter 3, Princess and Tiara: hidden compartment beside the first attic mural, opened by solving the mural.

This is the major Chapter 3 cleanup point. You should arrive with 12/13 collectibles. Do not force the central chest and do not enter its code early on the first run; solving the three main wall puzzles is required for the achievement and also strengthens the twins' bond.

Solve the first wall mural by selecting its five differences from the Book of Goblins illustration. Four of them are the title, the princess in the trees, the Mad Hunter's hand, and the castle. The fifth is the lowest tree, where the goblins are missing. The hidden compartment opens and contains The Gold Lady, collectible 13/13.

With all 13 figures now collected, place every figure on the display pedestals around the central chest before leaving the loft.

And Everything In Its Place

This unlocks when all 13 Book of Goblins figures have been placed on their attic displays.

If you reached the loft without all 13, do not start a new story run just for collectibles. Back out, use Isolation mode to collect anything you missed, then replay Princess and Tiara in Isolation mode and place the complete set.

Now finish the three main attic puzzles without forcing the chest.

For the second puzzle, set each of the four rows, from top to bottom, to the picture matching its clue: bird (dove), ballerina, engineering, painter.

For the third puzzle, press Castle → Flowers → Clock → House → Dinner Party.

The Princess' Lost Treasure

After solving the first three main attic puzzles, read the story revealed in the third secret compartment. The achievement unlocks from uncovering the princess' lost treasure.

After the puzzle sequence, open the central chest by entering the code L-E-O. Solving all three wall puzzles before entering the code is what strengthens the bond; entering LEO as a shortcut without the puzzles does not. Do not use the crowbar on this first run.

Veni, Vidi, Vecchi

Continue to the final confrontation. For the Tyler epilogue, choose Believe Tom's version: Mary-Ann did not threaten Tyler.

Believing Tom guarantees Tyler's epilogue whatever you told Eddy. It also weakens the bond, but the strengthening choices made earlier in this run leave plenty of margin for Twins4life.

Epilogue: Tyler

You should now be controlling Tyler at the Ronan house. After the phone call with Alyson, interact with and take the laptop beside the couch, pick up the pictures from the kitchen counter, then use the front door and choose LEAVE THE HOUSE FOR GOOD.

Lock-Up And Go

This unlocks when Tyler locks up and leaves the Ronan house after completing the required epilogue interactions.

Twins4life

Because the first run deliberately favored the bond-strengthening consequences, this unlocks during the credits after the epilogue, with the twins strongly bound together. If it does not, open the Chapters menu and review the star-marked bond consequences for each chapter before starting the second run; the safest correction is to replay from the earliest bond choice you weakened and keep every remaining consequence positive.

Second Run: Weaken the Bond

Chapter 1 Weakening Choices

From the main menu, use Chapters → Replay → Restart progress from this scene and restart from The Crossing or earlier. Do not use Isolation mode.

Skip cutscenes and ignore collectibles and miscellaneous achievements you already have. Make every documented bond consequence negative:

  • In The Crossing, refuse Eddy's ring or throw it into the water.
  • In A Big Wooden House, break open Mary-Ann's bedroom door instead of solving the Moose, Bear, Pelican puzzle.
  • In Rashomon, choose Alyson's memory.
  • In To Serve and Protect, side with Eddy ("he did his best").

Continue through the end of Chapter 1 so those choices become the active story state.

Chapter 2 Weakening Choices

Continue the restarted story and make every Chapter 2 bond consequence negative:

  • In Ahoy Goblins!, choose Alyson's memory at the barn.
  • In Compass and Northstar, accept the immediate house showing ("Let's do it") during the realtor call.
  • In Cold Case, choose Are you kidding me at the start of the Eddy confrontation, then No, it's not that easy when he offers to make it up to you.
  • In Plushy Fight!, choose You're swell too while sitting and talking with Michael on the sofa after the battle.
  • In Last Rites, choose Tyler's memory at the cemetery totem.
  • In Scorched Earth, choose Even after what I did for you at the dock memory.

You can skip every collectible and optional achievement interaction already completed on the first run.

Chapter 3 Alyson Ending

Continue into Chapter 3 and set up the opposite epilogue while keeping the bond weak.

In Like Mother, Like Daughter, when Michael visits, choose It won't do any good.

In Paternity Test, the phone breathing exercise is not a choice. When speaking with Eddy, choose I wanna forget, then I can't move on, so you do not tell him that Alyson killed Mary-Ann. This is required for Alyson's epilogue.

In Chosen Family, tell Michael We're too different, then I was the kid who killed his mom.

In Princess and Tiara, do not solve the three main attic puzzles again. Leave the loft through the hatch, pick up the crowbar on the burned barn floor next to the burned area, return to the loft, and force the central chest open. Choose the dialogue options to go ahead with breaking it. This is the documented bond-weakening consequence for the loft. And Everything In Its Place should already be done from the first run; do not rely on placing figures on this run.

In Veni, Vidi, Vecchi, choose Stick to your memory: Mary-Ann threatened Tyler. Alyson's epilogue requires both this choice and not telling Eddy the truth. Sticking to the twins' memory strengthens the bond, but the weakening choices made earlier in this run leave plenty of margin for Life Tears Us Apart.

In the epilogue, you should now control Alyson at the Ronan house. Go into Mary-Ann's old room, sit at the desk, and choose to finish or write the new chapter.

A New Chapter

This unlocks when Alyson sits at Mary-Ann's desk and starts writing the new chapter in her epilogue.

Life Tears Us Apart

This unlocks during the credits after the epilogue, when the restarted story finishes with the twins' bond weakened. A Chapter 3-only restart (from Like Mother, Like Daughter) is enough only when your Chapter 1 and 2 choices were already mixed. This guide's first run is built almost entirely from strengthening choices, so restart from Chapter 1; later restart points, such as Compass and Northstar, can leave too many strengthening choices active.

Reference material to look things up in, not a step in the route.

Collectibles 13 collectibles
  • The Crafty Goblins — Chapter 1, Long Time No See: Alyson's half in the box under her bed, Tyler's half on his desk. Mandatory.

  • The Pious Pelican — Chapter 1, Rashomon: cabinet in Tessa's office, with the 2004 notebook.

  • The Old Bear — Chapter 3, Adrift: drawer of Sam's upstairs desk, before sitting down with him.

  • The Gold Lady — Chapter 3, Princess and Tiara: hidden compartment beside the first attic mural, opened by solving the mural.

If anything other than the two ending or bond achievements remains, use Replay in isolation mode on the relevant scene. Isolation mode is the correct cleanup tool for collectibles, Full Confession, the police-computer and archive achievements, the store achievements, the fishing minigame, Mailbox Bandit, Just One Fix, and the attic-placement achievement because it does not replace your completed story state.

To see which figures you still need, check the in-game Collectables tab (from the pause menu or the Chapters menu) before replaying anything. For missing collectibles, collect the figure in Isolation mode, back out after it registers, then return to Princess and Tiara in Isolation mode and place the complete set. Place the figures on the first run's story save or in an Isolation replay where the attic puzzles are solved; do not rely on placing them after forcing the chest. For an alternate ending or a changed twin-bond outcome, use Restart Progress instead because those results depend on choices carrying forward through subsequent scenes.

Book of Goblins Figures

13 in the game

There are 13 Book of Goblins figures: 5 in Chapter 1, 5 in Chapter 2, and 3 in Chapter 3. The Crafty Goblins pair is mandatory and does not trigger One For The Collection; the first hidden figure, The Mad Hunter, does. Placing all 13 on the attic pedestals in Princess and Tiara earns And Everything In Its Place. The Gold Lady only appears once the first attic mural is solved, so solve the mural rather than forcing the chest. Any figure missed can be collected with Replay in isolation mode; then replay Princess and Tiara in isolation mode to place the full set.
