Before You Start

The Exit 8 on Xbox has 10 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore. There is no DLC, no online play, and nothing currently unobtainable (as of October 2026).

The whole game is one looping underground corridor. Each loop either contains one anomaly or none. Turn back when something is wrong, keep walking when nothing is, and the yellow exit sign climbs from Exit 0 to Exit 8. One wrong call, or getting caught by a dangerous anomaly, sends you back to Exit 0.

  • Playthroughs: none in the traditional sense. You escape once, then keep looping the same corridor until everything is done. Every achievement is recoverable through further runs.
  • Missables: nothing is permanently missable. Two achievements have special interactions you should perform the first time their anomalies appear (Something Behind the Door and The Exit 0), so learn them before you start and avoid waiting for another appearance. The Exit 0 needs you to climb the early staircase, which resets your run, so never do it during your flawless attempt.
  • Anomaly tracking: the current Xbox version has 36 anomalies (as of October 2026). The 2025 movie update added five, and it reached Xbox Series X|S in December 2025, so older 31-anomaly lists are incomplete. After your first escape, a sign near the start shows how many you still have to find. Trust that counter over any outside list.
  • Skill achievements: Ultimate Underground Passage Escaper (a run with no mistakes) and Underground Passage Runner (escape within 5 minutes). Do them together once you know the corridor.
  • Grind: Underground Passage Walker needs 10,000 steps. It tracks across every run, and progress is visible in the Xbox achievement details. Expect it to be your last achievement.
  • Avoid Delete Play Data: this pause-menu option wipes your save progress and puts the game back in a fresh state. Nothing in this route needs it.

The deadly anomalies you need to recognise instantly, because they reset you even if you were about to turn back:

  • the businessman walking toward you at double speed
  • a wave of red water coming around the far corner
  • a figure camouflaged against the tiled wall at the far end, who chases you if you approach
  • two men in black suits standing in the corridor (don't walk past them)
  • the last door on the right swinging open (don't walk through it)
  • a staircase at the end of the corridor before Exit 8 (climbing it resets the run; only climb it while The Exit 0 is still locked)

The First Escape

Practice Loops

The game opens with a few loops where nothing happens and the large yellow exit sign isn't on the wall yet. Use them to memorise the normal corridor: two vents and three doors on the right, the row of posters on the left, the ceiling lights, the camera poster near the end, the yellow tactile line on the floor, and the businessman who walks toward you.

Can't Take My Eyes Off You

The businessman walks past you every loop and stops once he reaches the end of his walk. Turn around, follow him back toward the corner, and wait for him to come to a complete stop. Stand in front of him and keep him centred on screen for 5 seconds.

Blocking him while he's still walking doesn't count. He has to be standing still.

This works during the practice loops in recorded runs. If it doesn't unlock there, do it on any later loop where the man walks normally.

Underground Passage Walker

Nothing to do here except know it's running. Every step you take from now on counts toward 10,000, across all runs and resets. Sprint whenever it's safe, since you'll want the steps anyway.

Learning the Anomalies

Collectibles 34 collectibles
  • Smiling businessman — The businessman grins as he walks past instead of keeping a blank face.

  • Distorted businessman face — His face is glitched and partly see-through.

  • Giant businessman — He is far taller than normal, with his head near the tops of the doors.

  • Staring businessman — He turns his head and watches you as he passes.

  • Charging businessman — He comes straight at you at double speed. Deadly: turn back and keep running, because if he touches you the run resets.

  • Creeping businessman — He moves toward you while you look away and freezes when you look back. Added in 2025.

  • Flickering lights — The ceiling lights stutter on and off, usually toward the far end.

  • Crooked lights — Every other ceiling light hangs at an angle instead of straight.

  • Lights go out ahead — The corridor lights shut off ahead of you as you walk.

  • Orange corridor lighting — The whole corridor glows orange-yellow instead of cold white. Added in 2025.

  • Lights go out behind — The lights shut off behind you, so you only see it if you glance back mid-loop. Added in 2025.

  • Red camera light — The dome camera above the security camera poster has a red light on.

  • Upside-down exit sign — The yellow exit sign hanging from the ceiling is upside down.

  • Turn back sign — Turn around after walking under the yellow sign: the back of it reads "Turn back" over and over.

  • Ceiling face — A faint face is printed on the ceiling past the yellow sign, across from the second vent.

  • Missing door — There are only two doors on the right wall instead of three.

  • Banging door — The first door shudders in its frame with loud banging.

  • Centred doorknob — The knob on the last door sits in the middle of the door.

  • Opening door — The last door on the right swings open as you pass. Deadly if you walk through it.

  • Leaking vent — Black liquid oozes from the first vent on the right.

  • Creepy store poster — The cartoon woman on the second poster has a crude, wide-eyed face.

  • Identical posters — Every poster on the left wall is the same makeup poster.

  • Concert poster face — The MOVEFES concert poster is replaced by a dark, eerie face.

  • Extra shaking poster — An extra poster of two animals hangs after the concert poster and trembles. Added in 2025.

  • Growing posters — The posters slowly get bigger. Stop and watch them for a few seconds to catch it.

  • Moving poster eyes — The eyes on the security camera poster drift from side to side.

  • Sliding camera poster — The security camera poster slides along the wall to follow you.

  • No-smoking signs — No-smoking signs cover the right wall and part of the ceiling near the start.

  • Extra yellow tiles — Extra yellow tiles branch off the tactile line on the floor.

  • Faces in the tiles — Faint faces show in the yellow tactile floor tiles.

  • Two men in black suits — Two identical men stand in the corridor. Deadly if you walk past them.

  • Camouflaged figure at the far wall — A figure blended into the far wall's tiles chases you if you get close. Deadly.

  • Camouflaged figure by the corner — A tile-camouflaged figure by the far corner vanishes as you approach. It's harmless, but you still need to turn back. Added in 2025.

  • Red water — A wave of red water floods in from the far corner. Deadly: turn back and keep running past the corner.

Once the yellow exit sign appears on the left wall, the real game begins. Each loop, check in this order:

  1. Anything moving toward you: a fast businessman, red water, the camouflaged figure at the far end. Turn back immediately and keep running past the corner.
  2. The businessman himself, while he's in view: his face, his height, his expression, whether he looks at you as he passes, and whether he creeps closer when you look away.
  3. Everything that stays still: lights, ceiling, the yellow sign (both sides), floor tiles, vents, doors, posters, and the camera poster.

When you turn back on a real anomaly, the sign goes up by one. Keep a mental note of what you've already found. Correctly handled anomalies generally stop reappearing, so the pool shrinks as you go.

Something Behind the Door

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Peeking person — The middle door on the right is open a crack and someone is peeking through. Stare at them from right against the gap for 5 seconds for Something Behind the Door, then turn back.

Requires the anomaly where the middle door on the right is open a crack and someone is peeking through.

When you see it, don't turn back yet. Walk right up to the gap and stare at the face for 5 seconds. Nothing attacks you. Players have reported needing to stand very close before it counts, so press up against the door. Once it unlocks, turn back as normal to count the anomaly.

Do this the first time you see it. If you turn back without staring, you'll have to wait for the anomaly to come up again on a later run.

The Exit 0

Collectibles 1 collectible
  • Early staircase — A staircase replaces the far corner before Exit 8. Climbing it at any exit number earns The Exit 0 but resets the run. Once you have that achievement, turn back.

Requires the staircase anomaly, where the far end of the corridor shows a staircase instead of the usual left turn. It can appear at any point before Exit 8, whatever number the sign currently shows.

  • If The Exit 0 is still locked, climb the stairs the first time they appear. Taking them drops you at an Exit 0 sign and unlocks the achievement, whatever your exit number was.
  • Climbing resets your run, so don't do it during your flawless attempt for Ultimate Underground Passage Escaper. Turn back instead.
  • Once The Exit 0 is unlocked, treat the staircase like any other anomaly and turn back.

Climbing the stairs isn't the same as turning back, so it may not count the staircase as found. If the counter later shows it as still missing, turn back on it the next time it appears.

Reaching Exit 8

Keep going until the sign reads Exit 8. Anomalies can still appear on that final loop, so treat it like every other loop. Once you clear a loop with nothing wrong, round the corner and climb the real stairs out.

The Exit 8

Unlocks when you climb the stairs out after a correct Exit 8 loop. If you managed this with no resets at all, Ultimate Underground Passage Escaper may unlock alongside it. If you did it within 5 minutes, Underground Passage Runner may too.

Finding Every Anomaly

Using the Anomaly Counter

After the escape, a new sign near the start of the loop shows how many anomalies you still need. From here, the goal is simply to keep looping and turn back on anything new. You don't need to reach Exit 8 again to get credit for anomalies, but a correct turn on a real anomaly also moves the sign up, so keep playing properly.

If you make a mistake or get caught by a deadly anomaly, you only lose your exit progress. Found anomalies stay found.

Underground Passage Expert

Unlocks when your 10th anomaly is counted.

Underground Passage Master

Unlocks when your 20th anomaly is counted.

Anomaly Checklist

Reference

Reference material to look things up in, not a step in the route.

The current Xbox version has 36 anomalies (as of October 2026). Every one is listed in the Anomalies checklist in the Collectibles section at the end of this guide. Tick them off as the counter confirms them, so you can see which ones you're still hunting. Your progress on that checklist is only a guide aid. The in-game counter and the achievements are the actual record.

Six of them are deadly: the charging businessman, the opening last door, the two men in black suits, the camouflaged figure at the far wall, the red water, and the early staircase (climb it only while The Exit 0 is still locked).

Underground Passage Local

Unlocks when the counter confirms every anomaly has been found. If you're stuck on the last one or two, the usual culprits are the growing posters, the lights going out behind you, the back of the yellow sign, the ceiling face, and the creeping businessman. Make a habit of stopping briefly by the posters and glancing back once each loop.

Challenge Runs

The Flawless Speed Run

Once you know every anomaly, go for both skill achievements in the same run. Start a fresh run from Exit 0 and reach Exit 8 without a single mistake, moving quickly.

Ultimate Underground Passage Escaper

Required: escape (Exit 8 and up the stairs) without a single mistake in that run. A wrong turn, walking past an anomaly, or getting caught by a deadly one all count as mistakes.

If you make a mistake partway, the safest route is to finish the current run by reaching Exit 8 and escaping, then start the next run cleanly. Players report that a run with an earlier reset in it doesn't count, even if the rest of it was clean. Don't rely on quitting to the title screen and reloading. Current Xbox reports (May 2026) say it doesn't clear a failed attempt. Reaching Exit 8 and escaping is what does.

Underground Passage Runner

Required: beat the game within 5 minutes. It isn't confirmed exactly when the clock starts, so begin your attempt the moment a new run starts (right after loading in, or right after an escape) and don't idle at the start. Sprint everywhere except where you need to stop and check something, and only pause long enough to rule out the slow anomalies (growing posters, moving eyes on the camera poster).

Five minutes is enough for a clean run of eight loops without rushing your checks. A clean run is also your fastest run, so this usually unlocks together with Ultimate Underground Passage Escaper. If one unlocks without the other, repeat the clean run.

Cleanup

Steps and Leftovers

Underground Passage Walker

Check your progress in the achievement details on Xbox. Most players have roughly half the steps left at this point, which takes about 45-60 minutes of looping. Just sprint loop after loop. Deadly anomalies and mistakes don't matter anymore.

To save your thumb, you can remap sprint in the Xbox controller settings and hold it down with a rubber band. Recent reports (September 2026) say the triggers also work as sprint now.

The Exit 0

If the staircase hasn't shown up yet, keep sprinting loops for steps and climb it the first time it appears, whatever the sign says. Mistakes don't matter at this point.

Anomalies you've already handled correctly may not come back until a new run starts. If the staircase hasn't shown up after a good while, escape once to start a fresh run, then carry on looping. Players grinding steps after finding every anomaly report seeing the staircase several more times, so it does come back.

Anomalies

36 in the game

The 36 corridor anomalies on the current Xbox version (as of October 2026), including the five added in 2025. Any one can show up on any loop once the yellow exit sign is on the wall, in random order. An anomaly counts when you correctly turn back on it, and the in-game sign after your first escape shows how many are left. None can be permanently missed. Deadly ones reset your exit number, not your found anomalies.
